The developer says the campaign can be played from start to finish in Early Access. It also says characters, homestead businesses, and the economy are simpler than planned for version 1.0. That distinction matters: the stated Early Access goal is a complete campaign framework, not that every system has reached its intended final depth.

How the AI-generated Family Council works
Steam’s AI disclosure says generative AI produces some Family Council narrative text and structured choice outcomes based on the campaign state. The developer says generation is constrained by the historical setting, family data, localization rules, and gameplay schema, then validated before it is shown.

An internet connection is required in Early Access because the AI-generated Council is a core part of the game. Offline play using a local language model is described as a planned version 1.0 improvement, not a current Early Access feature. Players who need offline access should therefore treat the current connection requirement as a practical limitation rather than assume the planned feature is already available. Platforms, languages, and system requirements
Steam lists Windows and macOS versions. Its minimum requirements call for broadband internet on both platforms. The store page lists 10 interface and subtitle languages and no full-audio languages. Check the live listing for the exact hardware requirements and supported language names before buying, since those details can change. Steam system requirements and language support

Can players try it before launch?
The developer previously offered a free Steam Playtest featuring a 30-turn “Jamestown Chronicle” scenario beginning in 1607. A later official update said the first access wave had ended and that future access would reopen in separate waves. When checked on October 12, 2026, the Steam store page offered a request-access option; availability may change. Developer community updates

Roman, the solo developer, says long-term consequences are difficult to balance alone: “In Salt and Soil, the consequences of a decision show up decades of game time later. I can’t test that kind of balance alone — it takes campaigns played by many different people. The game is playable from start to finish, and I want to finish it together with the people playing it.”
