Salesforce vs. Zendesk in 2026: CRM, Service, Pricing, and Sell’s Retirement

Salesforce and Zendesk are not equivalent choices for a new sales CRM in 2026. Salesforce offers an active lineup of sales CRM plans. Zendesk’s sales CRM, Zendesk Sell, is scheduled to retire on August 31, 2027; Zendesk’s current role is primarily customer service. Choose based on whether you need sales pipeline management, support workflows, or both—and treat Sell as a transition-sensitive product if you already use it.

Salesforce vs. Zendesk: what are you comparing?

For a new purchase, compare Salesforce’s sales CRM with Zendesk’s customer service platform only if you are deciding which business problem to solve. Salesforce’s published sales plans cover sales-oriented CRM capabilities, with more advanced features at higher tiers. Zendesk is the service-focused option for teams managing customer support; Zendesk Sell is not a durable alternative for a new sales CRM deployment because it is scheduled to retire.

This distinction matters: a service platform and a sales CRM can work together without being interchangeable. Zendesk documents an integration with Salesforce that can share customer and ticket information, subject to configuration and permissions. See Zendesk’s Salesforce integration documentation.

Salesforce plans and published US prices

Salesforce’s US sales pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists these starting prices in USD per user per month. Billing terms and included capabilities vary by plan; Salesforce notes that pricing and product information can change. These are list prices, not a configured deployment quote.

Salesforce plan Published starting price What to assess
Starter Suite $25 per user per month Entry-level sales capabilities; check transaction fees and the plan’s specific limits.
Pro Suite $100 per user per month Broader sales capabilities; review annual billing and contract requirements.
Core $195 per user per month Evaluate the capabilities and billing terms on the current plan page.
Advanced $395 per user per month Evaluate expanded automation, customization, security, AI, and related product needs against the included features.
Max $550 per user per month Confirm which advanced capabilities are included and whether additional products or services are needed.

Prices and plan details: Salesforce Sales Pricing. A separate Salesforce CRM pricing page lists Starter Suite at $25 and Pro Suite at $100 per user per month; it notes transaction fees for Starter and annual billing plus contract requirements for Pro. Keep those suite prices distinct from prices for other Sales Cloud editions or bundles: Salesforce CRM Pricing Plans.

Compare the capability you need, not only the entry price

Salesforce Starter Suite and Pro Suite include sales-oriented capabilities. Higher tiers and add-ons can expand automation, forecasting, customization, security, AI, and related products. Before selecting a plan, map your requirements to its inclusions and identify any add-ons, implementation work, or contract terms that affect the total cost.

Zendesk Sell is scheduled to retire

Zendesk announced on September 9, 2025, that it would retire Sell and its mobile app on August 31, 2027. Zendesk says customers retain full access until that date and recommends evaluating alternatives. Its announcement names Pipedrive as a transition partner and describes migration tools; that is Zendesk’s stated transition route, not an independent endorsement or a guarantee that every migration requirement will be met. For existing Sell users, the retirement date makes continuity planning part of the comparison. Assess the destination CRM, integration changes, user access, and cutover requirements well ahead of retirement. Zendesk says data will be deleted under its service data deletion policy when a subscription ends or beginning August 31, 2027, whichever comes first.

What Zendesk Sell data can you export?

Zendesk describes exports for leads, contacts, deals, notes, tasks, smart lists, full account data, and the total sales report. It says the described export does not include activity history, appointments, emails, call logs, or documents. Some system fields are available only through smart list export. A CSV export should therefore not be assumed to be a complete record of sales activity or attachments.

Zendesk says export files are delivered through a secure email link and remain accessible in the Export panel for 30 days after creation. Before a migration, inventory records and materials outside the described export, then verify field mapping, historical activity, attachments, integrations, permissions, and cutover needs with the vendors.

Can Salesforce integrate with Zendesk?

Yes. Zendesk documents an integration that can share customer data between a Salesforce organization and a Zendesk instance, including accounts, contacts, cases, and ticket data. This can give sales and support teams access to relevant customer or ticket context across applications. It is not an automatic merger of the systems: setup, permissions, and session settings affect what is shared. Review Zendesk’s Salesforce connection documentation before treating the integration as a fit for your workflows.

How to decide between Salesforce, Zendesk, or both

  • Choose an active sales CRM evaluation: Compare Salesforce’s current plans with your pipeline, forecasting, automation, customization, and security requirements, and with your team’s capacity to implement and administer the system.
  • Choose customer service software: Evaluate Zendesk’s service platform if your central need is support ticketing and service workflows. Do not mistake Zendesk Sell’s scheduled retirement for the retirement of Zendesk’s customer service platform.
  • Plan a Zendesk Sell transition: If you already use Sell, prioritize data export and migration planning before August 31, 2027, including records the described export does not cover.
  • Assess an integrated stack: If sales and support need shared customer context, test the documented Salesforce-Zendesk integration against your specific data, permissions, and workflow requirements.

Compare total deployment cost—not just per-user license price—including required add-ons and implementation. Published prices and documented features do not establish an apples-to-apples implementation or total-cost benchmark. Zendesk’s 2026 comparison guide is vendor-authored marketing material, so treat its comparative claims as Zendesk’s position rather than independent findings: Zendesk vs. Salesforce: A comparison guide for 2026.
