The available account does not establish who attended or where and when the gathering took place, so its “real-life Smash Bros.” framing is best read as a playful comparison, not a literal event description.
What the reported gathering was about
A search-result summary for an article by Michael Manning, displayed with the date May 10, 2026, says Masahiro Sakurai brought together creators associated with three prominent game properties: Undertale, Shadow of the Colossus and Resident Evil. The summary frames the gathering as a crossover of notable video game creators, much like the way Super Smash Bros. brings characters from different game worlds together.

The same summary identifies Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a major title in Sakurai’s career. That connection helps explain the headline’s comparison: the reported gathering evokes the spirit of the crossover fighting game, rather than putting its fictional characters or a game event into the real world.

The underlying article page was inaccessible, and the available summary does not provide enough detail to verify the circumstances of the gathering. It does not give the event’s official name, date, venue or format; name the individual creators; or establish that Sakurai personally organized it. The article’s author and displayed publication date are likewise result metadata, not independently checked page details.
#1 Best Overall

- Challenge others anytime, anywhere, whether you're on the couch or on the go
- Play any way you want—locally, online, in TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode, or even with GameCube Controllers
- Fight faster and smarter with new and returning techniques, like the perfect shield and directional air dodge
- Face off in 2-4 player battles, or play against the computer
- Supported by the summary: Sakurai is associated with a gathering described as bringing together creators linked to Undertale, Shadow of the Colossus and Resident Evil.
- Not established: the attendees’ identities, the complete participant list, the gathering’s logistics, and who organized it.
Without those specifics, the story supports a striking crossover comparison, but not a more detailed account of who met whom or what happened there.
