Build a five-knight team around the fight you need to win: keep the lineup alive, give it a clear damage plan, and add the control or support that matchup calls for. Treat elemental bonuses as a useful extra—not a reason to break a working combination. The official game listing sums up the principle neatly: “there is no strongest knight but only stronger formation.”
How do I build a team in Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice?
Start with the problem the battle presents, rather than a universal tier list. A boss fight, a long survival match, and a PvP opener can reward different combinations. Use this sequence to build from the knights you own and have developed:

- Identify the fight’s demand. Decide whether you need to outlast sustained damage, break a durable frontline, stop a dangerous opening, or deliver reliable boss damage.
- Make sure the team can act. Include enough durability, protection, healing, or control to keep your key knights alive long enough to use their skills.
- Choose a damage plan. Decide which knight or interaction will actually defeat the opposing team. A lineup that survives but cannot finish the fight is not complete.
- Add matchup-specific help. Use control, buffs, debuffs, healing, or targeting effects when they address a threat or improve your damage plan.
- Check elemental bonuses. Take a useful bonus if it fits, but do not remove an essential role or skill interaction just to reach a higher one.
- Set positions and observe. Put a suitably durable knight in the most exposed slot, protect fragile supports and damage dealers, then adjust after seeing who takes hits and whether the team executes its plan.
This is a practical framework, not a fixed formula. Skills may let one knight cover more than one job, and the best arrangement depends on the encounter and the roster available to you.

Which roles should a five-knight team cover?
Think in terms of jobs the lineup needs done, not rigid labels or one knight per category. A useful starting checklist is damage, durability, disruption, and support. Some characters can contribute to several of these at once.

- Damage: Defeat enemies through sustained attacks, burst damage, or a specific target-focused plan.
- Durability and protection: Absorb pressure or keep vulnerable allies from being eliminated before they can contribute.
- Disruption or control: Interrupt the opposing plan, restrict actions, or weaken enemies with debuffs.
- Support and healing: Restore allies, improve their performance with buffs, or otherwise help the team stay effective.
Pocket Gamer’s December 22, 2022 guide uses broadly similar team-building concepts, describing attackers, tanks, disruptors, and supports or healers. It cautions against lineups made entirely of damage dealers or entirely of tanks. Those role ideas remain useful, but the guide is not a current ranking of individual knights or a source for today’s recommended compositions.
Do not treat type labels as interchangeable
The official English Google Play listing names four knight types: Protector, Warrior, Assassin, and Skilled. AppMedia’s Japanese positioning guide uses a localized five-category vocabulary: defense, attack, assist, technique, and speed. These are not identical label sets, so avoid assuming a one-to-one translation between them. For team-building, judge the skills and battlefield job of each knight rather than relying on the category name alone.
What is the best team formation?
There is no single best formation for every account or mode. A useful formation is one in which the frontline can withstand pressure, the backline can perform its job, and the team’s skills work together toward a clear win condition.

Build synergy around what one knight enables
Synergy is about interactions, not simply matching elements. Ask what one knight makes possible for another:
- Does control buy time for an ally’s setup or damage skill?
- Does a debuff make the team’s main damage source more effective?
- Can healing or protection keep a fragile carry alive through the enemy’s opening?
- Can skill timing interrupt or blunt the opponent’s plan?
- Does a targeting effect help focus damage where the team needs it?
The official game listing points to attribute restraint and control skills as strategic factors. Together with buffs, debuffs, healing, and damage amplification, those effects can make a mixed-element team more useful than a lineup assembled solely to maximize an elemental bonus.
Advanced timing is patch- and version-sensitive
Some players analyze opening actions and acceleration to explain why a particular sequence of skills succeeds. Such interactions can be useful to investigate, but Codex’s June 2026 combat-engine discussion includes hypotheses and version-sensitive explanations. Treat timing theories as things to verify in your own client rather than guaranteed rules that apply across every update or region.

Which knights should go in front and back?
As a starting point, place durable knights where they can take pressure and keep more vulnerable support or technique-focused allies behind them. AppMedia’s August 13, 2025 guide describes defense- and attack-oriented types as generally front-oriented, and assist- and technique-oriented types as generally rear-oriented, while noting exceptions.

That makes a durable lead a sensible first experiment, not an unbreakable rule: skills, matchups, and the rest of the formation can change what placement works best. After a fight, check which knight is being focused, whether your damage dealer survives long enough to act, and whether moving a support changes the outcome.
What elemental formation bonuses are reported?
AppMedia’s August 13, 2025 guide reports the following attack and HP bonuses for these lineup patterns. These are third-party guide-reported mechanics, not independently confirmed official rules; check the active formation indicator in your game client, especially if its version or region differs.

The same guide says Light and Darkness can count flexibly toward elemental formation conditions. Verify how your client applies that rule rather than assuming the reported combinations behave the same in every version.
A larger listed bonus does not automatically mean a stronger team. Compare the bonus against what you would give up: a needed healer, a durable frontline, control for a dangerous opener, or a skill that completes your damage plan. Keep the element arrangement when it supports the lineup; relax it when the fight needs a different job covered.

Use published team lists as ideas, not prescriptions. A March 24, 2026 Codex article presents CN-server examples for five-team planning—Hades, Ice, Endurance, Burst, and Milo groupings—and adds Fire and Rush groupings for a seven-team setup. Its named lineups include characters such as Hades, Minos, Eaque, Poseidon, Mu God Cloth, Ox, Camus God Cloth, Hyoga God Cloth, Shun God Cloth, Shiryu God Cloth, Asmita, Ophiuchus, Athena Goddess of War, Shaka Arayashiki, Artemis, Hecate, Shijima, Apollon, Ikki God Cloth, and Milo God Cloth.
Best Value
That article presents one advanced player’s view of the CN meta, not a universal ranking. Character availability and arrival timing can differ by region, and a roster recommendation is useful only if you can field the knights and develop the relevant skills. Its seven-team discussion also illustrates a roster-planning constraint: adding another team is not just a matter of splitting characters; the added group still needs a coherent plan.
The Codex article gives approximate win-rate comparisons, but the material presented does not provide a transparent sample or reproducible test method. Those estimates should not be treated as established performance statistics or as a guarantee that a listed team will improve your results.
How should you adapt a lineup across modes?
Keep the same building principles, but change the job you prioritize. For a long fight, value survival and support enough to let your damage plan keep working. Against a hard frontline, look for a way to break through it rather than adding durability without a route to victory. If the opponent’s opening is the main threat, consider control or protection that lets your team reach its own first actions. For boss damage, focus on whether your chosen damage source can stay active and benefit from the rest of the lineup.
