Saint-Gobain completed its acquisition of Xypex on October 1, 2026. Saint-Gobain, which acquired construction-chemicals company Chryso in 2021, says Xypex brings crystalline waterproofing technology for concrete into its portfolio.
What happened in the Xypex deal?
Saint-Gobain announced a definitive agreement to acquire Xypex on July 6, 2026, with closing then expected in the fourth quarter. The company announced completion on October 1, 2026, replacing that earlier estimate. Its completion release headlines the acquired business as Xypex (North America) and describes Xypex as a global supplier headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Saint-Gobain’s completion announcement confirms the deal is closed.
Why is Chryso’s parent acquiring Xypex?
Saint-Gobain acquired Chryso on September 29, 2021, which explains why the deal may be described as an acquisition by Chryso’s parent. The 2021 announcement characterized Chryso as a construction-chemicals company and cited approximately €400 million in annual sales and around 1,300 employees at the time; those are historical deal-announcement figures, not current metrics. Saint-Gobain’s Chryso completion release records that earlier transaction.
Saint-Gobain describes Xypex as a global leader in crystalline waterproofing admixtures and coatings, serving customers in more than 100 countries. Its July announcement named Admix C-Series, Concentrate, and Bio-San technology. In the completion release, Saint-Gobain said Xypex was expected to generate C$110 million in sales in 2026. That is the company’s forecast, not a reported full-year result. The July acquisition announcement put Xypex’s workforce at approximately 170 employees.

What does Xypex add to Saint-Gobain’s portfolio?
Saint-Gobain says Xypex adds crystalline waterproofing to a portfolio that already includes membranes, liquid-applied systems, injection products, and repair technologies. Crystalline waterproofing is intended for concrete structures; the company says it can be used on its own or alongside membrane systems. Saint-Gobain’s stated rationale is that the technology can enhance durability and service life, helping extend asset life and reduce maintenance requirements. These are the acquirer’s product-category claims, not independent comparative performance findings.
The announcements do not provide independent test data comparing crystalline waterproofing with membranes or other systems. A project-specific assessment would need to consider application method, specification requirements, compatibility with other systems, and documented maintenance or service-life evidence. The releases alone do not establish which approach performs best for a particular structure.
