The brief exchange became an early talking point, but Hindustan Times reported that India’s players did not respond and play remained calm.
What happened between Saim Ayub and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi?
Hindustan Times reported that Sooryavanshi attempted a reverse sweep against Ayub, edged the ball to wicketkeeper Usman Khan and was dismissed. Ayub then made a cradle gesture toward him as he departed. India Today also reported the gesture and said Sooryavanshi scored 15 from nine balls.

The reports establish the gesture and the sequence around the dismissal, but do not establish Ayub’s motive. Hindustan Times characterized the moment as a flashpoint; it also said the Indian players did not respond.
Why did the moment carry extra weight?
This was not a routine group-stage meeting: the teams were playing for the men’s gold medal. The ICC had scheduled the final for October 3, 2026, in Nisshin, Japan, and its October 2 preview described both India and Pakistan as unbeaten going into the match.

Both sides had reached the final through the semifinals. In an October 1 report, the ICC said Pakistan beat Bangladesh in a rain-reduced semifinal and India beat Sri Lanka. Sooryavanshi had made 38 from 21 balls against Sri Lanka, according to that ICC report; that is semifinal context, separate from his score against Ayub in the final.
What happened after the dismissal?
India Today reported that Abhishek Sharma hit a six and two boundaries in Ayub’s over after Sooryavanshi’s wicket. That was the next batting sequence reported; the available accounts do not show that the cradle gesture caused or changed Abhishek’s response.

What can be said about Sooryavanshi’s record against Pakistan?
The cited coverage gives his score in this final but does not provide a full comparison with his performances in previous India–Pakistan encounters. It would be misleading to infer a trend from the one final score and the separate semifinal innings.
