Sage said it acquired Paperless Environments on 1 October 2026, adding a construction-focused accounts-payable automation and document-workflow specialist to its portfolio. The deal is intended to bring finance, project and jobsite records into closer reach; Sage says existing customers and integrations will continue to be supported, with no immediate changes to how customers use Paperless or work with Sage.
What Sage acquired
Paperless Environments develops software for construction accounts-payable automation, document workflows and subcontractor compliance. Sage’s announcement describes a Louisiana-based company founded in 2005, with more than two decades of construction experience. Paperless software is designed to work with Sage and non-Sage ERP systems, though the announcement does not identify the non-Sage systems.

In practical terms, the software captures and routes project records, checks invoice information against ERP data and purchasing requirements, and manages subcontractor compliance documents. Mobile functions support jobsite submissions and remote review and approval.

Sage framed the purchase as an investment in capabilities already used by construction customers: AP automation, document management and workflows linking finance, project and field teams. Sage EVP Dan Miller said the aim is to reduce manual work involved in managing invoices, project records and compliance documents across offices and jobsites. Paperless CEO Seth Dawson said joining Sage gives the company an opportunity to bring its construction experience to more customers.
#1 Best Overall
The strategic rationale is to connect financial and operational information more closely, not to announce a finished redesign of Sage’s construction products. The acquisition release describes closer integration as a possibility over time; it does not provide a detailed integration roadmap.
Which Sage construction products are named
Sage’s announcement names three products with which Paperless currently works. It cautions that integration extent and functionality vary by product.
Rank #2
| Product | What Sage says about the connection |
|---|---|
| Sage Intacct Construction | Paperless currently connects through APIs. Sage says the acquisition may create opportunities to deepen the connection over time. |
| Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (Sage 300 CRE) | Listed as compatible; the announcement does not specify the integration method or full feature scope. |
| Sage 100 Contractor | Listed as compatible; the announcement does not specify the integration method or full feature scope. |
That distinction matters for Intacct customers: API connectivity is described as current, while deeper integration is only a future opportunity. The announcement does not say that the acquisition changes Sage Intacct Construction integration now.
What current customers should expect
Sage says existing customers and integrations will continue to be supported and that there are no immediate changes to how customers use Paperless or work with Sage. This is an assurance about continuity now, not a long-term service-level guarantee or a published migration timetable.
Rank #3
For Sage 300 CRE users, Sage’s support article describes Sage Paperless Construction as a system for centralizing project and accounting documents and automating invoice routing and approvals. It lists customizable index fields, security controls, revision tracking, mobile tools and audit history. Sage positions these features as ways to reduce manual work and improve workflow; individual results depend on configuration and use.
Sage’s product overview describes a process of importing, indexing, routing and storing documents in one secure location, with on-premises and cloud options. Because the overview’s publication date is not established, it should not be read as a current deployment-status notice.
How large is Paperless?
Sage’s 1 October 2026 release gives two different customer totals: its main text says more than 1,400 customers across the US, Canada and Australia, while its company description says over 2,000 customers across the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The release does not reconcile the counts, so neither figure should be treated as a single definitive current total.
What construction teams can evaluate in workflow software
The acquisition does not establish that one workflow product is superior for every contractor. Buyers comparing AP and compliance systems can use these questions to check fit:
Best Value
- ERP compatibility: Confirm the exact ERP product and edition, cloud or on-premises deployment, integration method, and which invoice, vendor, job and cost-code fields synchronize.
- Approvals and auditability: Check configurable approval rules, separation of duties, change history, exception handling and evidence retention.
- Subcontractor documents: Identify which compliance documents are tracked, how missing or expired documents are flagged, and whether document status affects payment workflows.
- Field use: Verify that jobsite staff can submit receipts, images and forms with the permissions and connectivity they need.
- Deployment and migration: Agree on implementation scope, data-migration responsibilities, training, support and any eligibility requirements for cloud transition.
- Cost and outcomes: Compare licensing and implementation costs with your own baseline for invoice-cycle time, manual entry, exception rates and document retrieval.
Sage’s product overview includes a customer testimonial from Bruce Evenrud, CFO of A.M. Ortega Construction Inc., who reported reducing a billing cycle from 15–20 days to two days and increasing cash flow by more than $4 million per month after one process change. That is one customer’s Sage-published account, not an independently audited result or a typical outcome.
What the announcement does not settle
The release does not publish a product-by-product integration roadmap, detailed migration timetable, or a reconciliation of Paperless’s customer totals. Construction teams should confirm current integration scope and deployment options for their own product, edition and setup with Sage or Paperless before making implementation decisions.
