Sabi has announced a $50 million seed round led by Vinod Khosla to develop a noninvasive cap intended to turn brain signals into text prompts for AI systems, according to Forbes. The company’s website describes the device and offers a waitlist, not a way to buy it. Forbes reports a planned CES demonstration in January 2027 and availability no earlier than 2027; neither event has happened yet, and reported performance claims have not been independently validated.
What Sabi is building
Sabi says its cap will use custom neuroimaging sensors and a brain foundation model to interpret brain activity and produce text for AI prompts. The goal, as described by the company, is to capture thoughts and intended speech—including implied words—without typing or speaking aloud. That is the intended use, not a demonstrated general-purpose capability established by the sources available.

Forbes reports that a prototype is lined with up to 100,000 small sensor chips and that the model was trained on 100,000 hours of labeled neural data. Those figures are company claims reported by Forbes, not independently verified specifications, a final shipping design, or evidence that the device can reliably transcribe thoughts.
Funding and reported valuation
Forbes reported on October 9, 2026, that Sabi announced a $50 million seed round led by investor Vinod Khosla. Forbes named Accel, DST Global, Initialized Capital and Kevin Weil among the other backers. It also reported a $600 million valuation, attributing that figure to a person familiar with the deal. A separate primary funding announcement was not verified.

Why the sensor claims need context
The device is described as noninvasive: it would sense brain activity from outside the head rather than through an implanted device. Signals must pass through the scalp and skull, which creates a signal-quality challenge. WIRED’s April 16, 2026 report discussed an earlier beanie design and described a sensor range of 70,000 to 100,000. Forbes’s later report describes a cap prototype with up to 100,000 sensors. These accounts refer to evolving designs; neither establishes a final product specification.
Forbes quoted Nicholas Hatsopoulos, a neurology professor at the University of Chicago, questioning whether signals filtered through the scalp and skull would be precise enough for reliable task input: “Just typing the right prompt to get a good answer from AI takes some effort. On top of that, you’re trying to get something from the brain directly. It seems like a long stretch.” This is an expert’s skeptical assessment, not a settled finding about Sabi’s device.

- Reported: a $50 million seed round, its named backers, a prototype sensor count of up to 100,000, and a training-data figure of 100,000 hours, as reported by Forbes.
- Attributed, not confirmed independently: the $600 million valuation, which Forbes says came from a person familiar with the deal.
- Not yet established: a shipping date, final sensor count, independently validated performance, or reliable general-purpose transcription of thoughts into AI prompts.
The available reports support describing Sabi as an ambitious device under development—not as a finished brain-to-text product. They also do not establish a direct performance comparison with other brain-computer interfaces.
