Saarthi is a prototype AI companion designed to remember user-approved details—such as goals, weak subjects and deadlines—and use them to shape personal plans. Its creator describes a local Gemma model served through Ollama, a MongoDB memory store and a review step before inferred information is saved. The project also describes an offline demonstration, but its privacy, hardware requirements and production readiness have not been independently established.
What Saarthi is designed to do
Saarthi’s premise is that a useful planning assistant should retain relevant context between conversations. The project describes a companion for someone balancing exams, projects, learning plans, personal goals and deadlines. Rather than answering each question without that history, it is intended to use remembered context when helping decide what deserves attention.

The project article illustrates the idea with questions such as “What should I focus on today?” and a message about an upcoming DBMS exam and difficulty with normalization. These are examples supplied by the creator, not evidence of measured user demand.

- A user shares information. For example, they mention an exam date and a topic they find difficult.
- Saarthi identifies possible context. The project says it can recognize details such as an upcoming event, a weak area or a potential priority.
- The user reviews inferred information. The creator says Saarthi asks before permanently saving information it infers from conversation.
- Accepted context is stored. MongoDB is described as holding memory fields including category, importance, confidence, source, status and creation or update times.
- Relevant memories inform later answers. When a user asks for guidance, the system is intended to retrieve pertinent context and pass it to Gemma to generate a personalized suggestion.
The creator also describes a “Why this?” interaction that shows which remembered details influenced a recommendation. That could make a suggestion easier to inspect, though the project article does not independently verify how completely or accurately the feature works.

Changing a memory
The intended behavior is to update a fact when circumstances change, rather than retain conflicting versions. The project gives the example of a project submission first marked as upcoming and later reported as complete; Saarthi is meant to update the existing event’s status. This is a description of the design, not an independently tested result.
What technology the project names
The project article lists Next.js and TypeScript for the application, MongoDB for stored context, Gemma served locally through Ollama, and Tailwind CSS and Framer Motion for the interface. Its creator characterizes the architecture as deliberately small, without a large agent framework or a complicated microservice system.

The creator says the core AI experience was demonstrated with the internet disconnected. That supports describing an offline demonstration, not assuming that every feature, installation or deployment works offline. The article also links a hosted demo, and it does not establish how that deployment handles data. The local-inference description should therefore not be read as proof that all data always stays on a user’s device.

Reviewing inferred memories before saving them and showing which memories shaped a response are useful design intentions. They do not, by themselves, establish how securely personal information is handled or what happens to it in every deployment.

The project article does not state the model variant or quantization, minimum system requirements, expected response time, data-retention policy, encryption details, account model or threat model. It also does not report an independent security or privacy audit. Those details matter before entering sensitive personal information or choosing hardware for a local installation; the available project description does not support a particular computer or GPU recommendation.
