The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is the lower-priced, conventional flagship; the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra trades that familiar shape for an 8-inch folding display. At Samsung’s US store, the 256GB S25 Ultra was listed at $1,299.99 and the 256GB Fold8 Ultra at $1,849.99 on October 7, 2026—a displayed-price difference of $550. The Fold page also showed a $2,099.99 was-price, which would make the comparison $800 against the S25 Ultra listing.

Which phone fits your needs?

Choose the Galaxy S25 Ultra for a traditional flagship

The S25 Ultra is a conventional, single-screen phone with a 6.9-inch QHD+ display. It is the more straightforward choice if you prefer a slab-style handset and do not need a screen that unfolds into a larger workspace. Samsung’s listed weight is 218 g, and its dimensions are 162.8 × 77.6 × 8.2 mm. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report lists its Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, Android 15 and One UI 7.0 at launch.

Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra for an unfolding workspace

The Fold8 Ultra’s defining feature is its 8-inch main display, which opens into a larger canvas for reading, viewing and working across apps. It is a book-style foldable, so the decision is about more than screen size: its unfolded and folded shapes handle differently from a conventional phone. Samsung lists it at 215 g and 4.1 mm thick when unfolded. Its launch specifications also include a 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging. These figures describe capacity and charging support, not tested battery life or charging time. Samsung’s August 2026 launch announcement says sales began August 7 in select markets, with global expansion to follow.

Samsung’s figures come from its 2026 interim report for the S25 Ultra and its Fold8 Ultra launch release. The Fold8 Ultra has a slightly lower listed weight, but the similar numbers do not make the phones equivalent in hand: one is a standard handset, while the other opens into a much larger display.

How much more does the Fold8 Ultra cost?

For the same 256GB storage tier, Samsung’s US direct-store pages displayed these figures on October 7, 2026:

  • Using the Fold8 Ultra displayed price: $1,849.99 minus $1,299.99 = $550 more for the Fold8 Ultra.
  • Using the Fold8 Ultra page’s was-price: $2,099.99 minus $1,299.99 = $800 more.

These are US store-page prices before tax, not a global MSRP comparison. Promotions, trade-in offers, stock and carrier pricing can change what a buyer actually pays. Check the current S25 Ultra 256GB listing and Fold8 Ultra 256GB listing before purchasing.

The pages also showed higher-storage options, but the fairest comparison is like for like: match storage capacity and compare current prices on the same basis. The S25 Ultra listing states that a charger is not included, and the Fold8 Ultra listing’s product copy says the same. Check the box contents for your market and exact SKU rather than assuming an accessory is bundled.

What the camera specifications do—and do not—tell you

Samsung highlights a 200MP main camera with HDR support in 200MP mode and a 50MP ultra-wide on the Fold8 Ultra. Its interim report confirms a 50MP ultra-wide upgrade for the S25 Ultra, but does not provide the main-camera details needed for a complete head-to-head camera-spec table. A higher megapixel count alone does not establish better photos, and the cited specifications do not provide a controlled comparison of image quality. Choose based on the overall form factor and features you value, not on megapixels alone.

What to consider before deciding

  • Display use: The S25 Ultra has one large 6.9-inch screen; the Fold8 Ultra opens to an 8-inch main display. Diagonal measurements alone do not establish usable area or which layout will suit your apps.
  • Handling: The listed weights are close, but the devices have different shapes and dimensions. Consider whether you want a conventional handset or a phone that unfolds.
  • Price basis: The $550 difference uses the Fold8 Ultra’s displayed US price on the observation date. Its page’s was-price produces an $800 comparison, so confirm the live offer rather than treating either gap as permanent.
  • Market and availability: Samsung said Fold8 Ultra sales started in select markets on August 7, 2026, with wider global availability to follow. Availability and pricing can differ by country.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
