For most budget gaming PCs, the Ryzen 5 7600 is the better starting point when it costs less: it has the same six Zen 4 cores as the 7600X, includes an AMD Wraith Stealth cooler, and has a lower default TDP. The 7600X can be modestly faster in games, but you must add the cost of a separate cooler before comparing prices. If the two builds end up close in total cost—or you already own a suitable cooler—the 7600X may be worth considering.
What is different between the Ryzen 5 7600 and 7600X?
Both are AM5 desktop processors built on AMD’s Zen 4 architecture. Each has 6 cores and 12 threads, 6 MB of L2 cache, 32 MB of L3 cache, DDR5 support, and integrated Radeon Graphics with 2 cores at 2,200 MHz. The main practical differences are clock speeds, default TDP, and included cooling.

Yes. AMD lists a Wraith Stealth cooler with the Ryzen 5 7600. The 7600X does not include a thermal solution, so its purchase price is only part of the cost of a usable build. AMD’s support bulletin says Ryzen 7000 series processor boxes do not include a cooler or heatsink and that a cooling solution must be purchased independently; the 7600 is an exception in AMD’s product listing, which specifically includes the Wraith Stealth.
#1 Best Overall
- The Socket AM5 socket allows processor to be placed on the PCB without soldering
- Ryzen 5 product line processor for your convenience and optimal usage
- 5 nm process technology for reliable performance with maximum productivity
- Hexa-core (6 Core) processor core helps processor process data in a dependable and timely manner with maximum productivity
- 6 MB L2 plus 32 MB L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
AMD says the 7600X needs a separately purchased cooler capable of dissipating at least 105W. Check the cooler maker’s compatibility information for AM5 before buying. The included cooler can make the 7600 particularly convenient for a cost-conscious build, while the 7600X requires you to budget for an additional component.
How much faster is the 7600X in games?
In TechSpot’s 2023 gaming comparisons, the 7600X was about 5% ahead of the 7600. That is a result from the publication’s tested games and setup, not a guaranteed frame-rate increase in every title. The difference can vary with the game, graphics card, resolution, and settings; when a game is limited by the graphics card, a CPU gap may be less noticeable. No single percentage applies to every budget gaming PC.

- For the state-of-the-art Socket AM5 platform, can support PCIe 5.0 on select motherboards
- Cooler not included
Tom’s Hardware reported that the non-X Ryzen 5 7600 approached parity with pricier X-series counterparts in its gaming, single-threaded, and multi-threaded tests after auto-overclocking was enabled. That result depends on the review’s configuration and test suite; it does not mean the processors perform identically at all settings. See TechSpot’s Ryzen 5 7600 review and Tom’s Hardware’s Ryzen 5 7600 review for their test context.

AMD rates the 7600X at 105W default TDP, compared with 65W for the 7600. In its 2023 comparison, TechSpot measured roughly 12% higher total-system consumption with the 7600X. That figure describes the review system’s measurement; it is not a universal CPU-only power difference. The higher TDP rating and separate-cooler requirement are reasons to include cooling cost and capability in the decision, rather than comparing processor prices alone.

Which CPU is the better value for your build?
Choose the Ryzen 5 7600 when
- It is cheaper and you want to keep the complete CPU-and-cooling cost down.
- You want an included cooler rather than shopping for a separate one.
- You prefer the lower default TDP and do not need the 7600X’s higher rated boost clock.
Consider the Ryzen 5 7600X when
- The 7600X plus a suitable cooler costs about the same as the 7600 build.
- You already own a compatible cooler that meets AMD’s cooling guidance.
- You are comfortable paying for a possible modest gaming-performance gain that depends on the game and system.
Prices and stock vary by region and retailer, and a current local price comparison is not established here. Check in-stock listings for both processors and a compatible cooler, then compare the 7600’s price against the 7600X-plus-cooler total. If your choice is close, use benchmarks for the games and resolution you actually play rather than treating a review average as a promise.
