The manual identifies a variable temperature dial, variable steam control with a self-clean setting, spray trigger and nozzle, burst-of-steam button, water tank, and a 360-degree pivoting cord. It describes spray mist for dampening fabric, a burst of steam, and vertical steam for suitable hanging clothes, curtains, and furnishing fabrics. Using steam and vertical steam
- For regular steam ironing, set the temperature dial above the wool setting and adjust steam to suit the garment. At the lower end of the steam range, the manual recommends a lower steam setting to help reduce water droplets.
- Wait three seconds between steam bursts to let the iron recover.
- For vertical steaming, set the temperature dial to maximum and hold the iron close to, but not touching, the fabric. Use this only on suitable fabrics and keep the iron moving.
- Follow garment care labels for heat and steam settings. Russell Hobbs advises: “For best results follow manufacturer’s garment care tags for recommended heat and steam setting instructions.”
Automatic shutoff
The manual says the heating element switches off if the iron is left unmoving for 30 seconds on its soleplate or side, or eight minutes upright. The indicator flashes until the iron is moved. This is a safety feature, not a guarantee against accidents: the manual also says not to leave a switched-on iron unattended.
Water, cleaning, and fixing drips
Choosing water and cleaning the iron
The manual allows tap water. In hard-water areas, it recommends distilled water suitable for irons; it excludes chemically descaled or softened water. Use the self-clean setting regularly—at least monthly in normal-water areas, and more often in hard-water areas. If water drips from the soleplate
Russell Hobbs support lists several possible causes: steam condensing on the ironing board, additives or fragrance water in the tank, using steam below the appropriate temperature, or using steam and spray too rigorously. Use tap water, distilled water, or a mixture rather than additives, check the heat setting, and ease up on steam and spray use. A mesh-top ironing board with a thick felt cover can help minimize condensation; this is general support guidance, not a model-specific requirement. At the time of the retrieved Appliances Online listing, five customer reviews averaged 1.6 out of 5. That small, seller-specific sample includes individual reports of leakage and an alleged electrical hazard after a pin contacted the soleplate. These accounts are not verified defect findings, do not establish how common a problem is, and cannot support a general safety conclusion. No firsthand product testing is available here, so glide, heat-up time, wrinkle removal, leakage, and durability should not be presented as measured results.

The RHC800’s documented feature set covers common steam-iron functions, with explicit guidance for vertical steaming, water choice, self-cleaning, and auto shutoff. But its discontinued status and the lack of public independent test scores make current availability and proven performance difficult to establish. Consider it only if you can verify you are buying the exact model from a seller with suitable local warranty coverage.
