RuneScape Reignited is Jagex’s newly advertised way to begin the adventure again: a remastered journey, an in-game guide, officially supported plugins and no Treasure Hunter. The pitch is a shared return to Gielinor; the concern raised by some existing players is that a separate start could pull friends and attention away from long-established characters. Whether that amounts to a lasting split depends on participation and account, social and progression rules that Jagex’s reviewed landing page does not spell out.
What RuneScape Reignited promises
Jagex describes Reignited as a chance to experience RuneScape from the beginning, with recent restoration work shaping the journey. Its official Reignited page promotes a remastered trip from Lumbridge, a Gielinor Adventure Guide, officially supported plugins and a world without Treasure Hunter. Jagex frames it as “a chance to rediscover Gielinor together”—a publisher’s description of the intended experience, not evidence of how many players will join.

The same page advertises full access to Reignited without membership from December 2 through December 12. The page copy reviewed does not identify the year or detail eligibility and account conditions, so players should check Jagex’s current terms before making plans around that window.

The case for starting over
A new character type can give returning and new players a common starting point, rather than asking newcomers to catch up with years of accumulated levels, gear and wealth. Reignited’s guide and remastered journey are presented as ways to make that beginning more directed, while the absence of Treasure Hunter fits Jagex’s restoration pitch.

That pitch sits within a broader change to RuneScape’s monetization. In a September 24, 2026 post about MTX items, Jagex said 120,000 players voted in favour of removing Treasure Hunter and that more than 225 MTX items were removed from sale in January 2026. Those figures describe the company’s restoration efforts; they do not measure support for Reignited or predict its population.
The cost veterans are worried about
Some players responding to the announcement have described the risk as “splitting the playerbase” or “split the community.” Others have questioned whether a fresh-start mode makes established characters less relevant or leaves them with “zero reasons to start in the old worlds.” Those are examples of individual commenters’ concerns, not a poll or proof of a community-wide view. Discussions on one RuneScape subreddit thread and another announcement discussion illustrate the tension: a new shared beginning can be attractive while also making years of existing progress feel sidelined.

Will RuneScape Reignited split the player base?
It could divide attention, but the available official information does not establish that it will split players into isolated communities. The outcome depends on how many people choose Reignited and on whether its characters can interact socially or economically with established ones. Jagex’s landing page does not say whether friends lists, chat, clans, grouping, trading, membership or progression are shared across character types.

What to check before choosing a character
For players weighing a new start against a long-standing main, the practical decision turns on details beyond the advertised features. Check Jagex’s current mode information for answers to these questions before committing:
- Account and membership: Can Reignited use an existing Jagex account, and does membership carry across characters?
- Social play: Can Reignited and established characters chat, join the same clans, group for activities or share friends lists?
- Trading and progression: Are trading and the economy separate, and can any progress or items transfer between character types?
- Records: Are high scores kept apart?
- Availability: Is the December 2–12 access period the only opportunity, and what happens to a Reignited character afterward?
- Actual play changes: How do the remaster, Adventure Guide, supported plugins and removal of Treasure Hunter affect the experience you want?
The official page establishes the advertised features and access window, but it does not answer those account, interaction, economy or progression questions. Until Jagex publishes the applicable rules, neither the fear of a hard divide nor the assumption that established characters can participate alongside Reignited should be treated as settled.
