What is RuneScape Reignited?
Reignited is Jagex’s fresh-start presentation of the existing RuneScape game, bringing restoration work together with a remastered opening and new player guidance. It is not the name of RS4, nor has Jagex presented it as a replacement for the current game.

The remastered journey begins in Lumbridge. Jagex describes changes to the opening’s gameplay and graphics, a Gielinor Adventure Guide, and official plugins integrated into the game. Its Reignited world is described as having no Treasure Hunter. Jagex also says its broader restoration work responds to player feedback on the user interface, combat, visuals and balance, and that Hero Pass has been removed.

What is RS4?
RS4 is a new RuneScape MMORPG that Jagex says is in early development, built in Unreal Engine and still a few years away. It is set in Gielinor’s Sixth Age and begins in Ashenfall, a landmass north-east of Gielinor that Jagex says was first explored in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. The announced story takes place years after the events of Dragonwilds and the destruction of the Dragon Queen Kuldra.
Jagex’s official announcement is explicit: “RS4 is not a replacement for any of our games, be it Old School, RuneScape or Dragonwilds.” The company says those existing games have dedicated teams, roadmaps and continued investment; that is Jagex’s assurance about its plans.
Jagex intends to share more in 2027 about RS4’s world, game, development team and ways players can get involved. It has named integrity, permanent progression and community-driven development as design principles. Those principles are intentions, not a full description of how the finished game will work.
Reignited vs. RS4: the practical difference

Will RS4 replace RuneScape 3?
No—not according to Jagex’s announcement. Jagex says RS4 is not replacing RuneScape, Old School RuneScape or Dragonwilds, and presents it as an additional game. That answers the replacement question as Jagex has stated its plan; it does not establish how the company’s games or roadmaps may evolve over time.

Will your RuneScape account, character or items carry over?
Jagex has not announced whether an existing account, character, inventory or other progress will transfer to RS4. Its announcement identifies account and progression questions as unresolved. Do not assume either that your current progress will migrate or that it will be wiped.
The Reignited page likewise does not explain how existing RuneScape accounts relate to the promoted new beginning. The two questions concern different products: Reignited is tied to the existing game, while RS4 is described as a separate MMORPG.

What has Jagex not announced about RS4?
The announcement leaves several practical details open. Jagex says it plans to provide more information in 2027, but has not specified:

- Progression and transfer rules
- Combat systems or a skill list
“A few years away” is not a confirmed launch year. The Unreal Engine announcement also does not, by itself, establish which platforms RS4 will support or what hardware it will require.

What should current and returning players do now?
- If you want to play RuneScape now: Reignited concerns the existing game and its refreshed opening; it is not a reason to wait for RS4.
- If you are deciding whether to preserve current progress: No transfer or wipe policy for RS4 has been announced, so do not make account decisions based on an assumed migration.
- If you are planning around RS4: Treat platforms, costs, gameplay details and launch timing as undecided until Jagex publishes them.
- If you are interested in Reignited access terms: Check Jagex’s live page, since any offer and eligibility conditions may change.
What happens next?
Jagex’s stated next milestone is to share more about RS4 in 2027, including its world, game, team and ways players can get involved. Separately, Jagex places further parts of the Reignited remastered journey in 2027. Neither announcement supplies a firm RS4 launch date.
