RuneFest 2026 outlined substantial 2027 plans for Old School RuneScape, RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, but the official material reviewed does not confirm the announcement or details of a new MMO. The plans also vary in certainty: some Dragonwilds features have a stated window, while several Old School proposals still depend on player polls.

What RuneFest revealed—and what it did not

RuneFest took place October 3–4, 2026, at Birmingham NEC. Jagex’s January 15, 2026 RS25 press release described the event as hosting 6,000 fans and featuring live reveals and developer sessions. The official RuneFest schedule listed separate summits for Dragonwilds, RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, with the latter two previewing 2027 plans.

The official post-event material reviewed here contains roadmaps for those three games. It does not establish that Jagex announced a new MMO, or provide a verified title, platform list, release window or explanation of how a new game would relate to the existing RuneScape games. The new-MMO claim should therefore be treated as unconfirmed, not as a roadmap item.

Old School RuneScape: one announced start date, several proposals

The Old School RuneScape summit overview, published October 3, 2026, combines scheduled content with early concepts and ideas put forward for player consideration. The distinction matters: not every item below is a confirmed release.

#1 Best Overall
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Deluxe Edition - PlayStation 5
  • RUNESCAPE AT ITS CORE! - Embark on quests, level your skills and explore a beautiful hand-crafted world. This all-new adventure blends high-fantasy and iconic RuneScape lore on a brand new continent. RPG systems reward you with unique abilities and spells as you progress through each skill. Battle legendary RuneScape creatures like Zogres, challenge Black Knights and the entirely new and fearsome Garou, all set to a sweeping soundtrack of reorchestrated RuneScape classics and hours of brand new music.
  • GRIND SKILLS, SLAY DRAGONS - Locate them, throw down the gauntlet and carve your path to the Dragon Queen herself. Your progress will be under constant threat from the looming shadow of the Dragons, as you arm yourself and prepare to rise to face them. Follow the trail of destruction and uncover the mysteries of the continent to learn not just how to confront the dragons, but how to overcome them. Prepare potions, craft gear and push yourself to do battle with the most powerful force on the continent. The smart money's on the dragon. But we do love an underdog!
  • SURVIVAL THROUGH SORCERY - Summon a spectral axe to fell trees in an instant! Blink away from danger in a cloud of magic. Turn bones into... peaches? The Anima-rich landscape of Ashenfall offers you a power unlike any other. Conjure a tornado of fish from a lake! Explode ore veins with a snap of your fingers! Journey through the vibrant regions of Ashenfall, discover why wild magic spills from the fractured lands and harness that power to survive!
  • COMMUNITY DRIVEN, PLAYER CENTRIC - Like all RuneScape games, community is at the heart of everything we do. We've shaped our entire roadmap based on player feedback, leading us to launch dedicated servers earlier than planned, introduce new combat and new quest content. Working together we're continuing to develop RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Whether you're adventuring with friends or going it alone, every opinion matters, and it's up to you to help us shape the future of our game.

Hardcore Worlds

Jagex announced a November 4 start date for Hardcore Worlds, a permanent experience on separate worlds. Characters get one life, with no XP or drop-rate boosts. On death, a player can either restart fully or transfer to the main game; items lost on death are excluded from that transfer.

Dungeons of Gielinor

This is a proposal, not a finalized release commitment. Jagex described a suite of at least five bosses across difficulty levels, a short early-game quest, Slayer creatures and improvements to some existing dungeons. The final boss roster was still in development, and Jagex posed poll questions about whether and how to add the project.

Menaphos

Jagex proposed a new area in the Kharidian Desert featuring the Master-level quest Fool’s Gold, the true Soul Altar and the Vault of the Soul Altar skilling dungeon. The summit overview asked players whether to add Menaphos and its features; it did not present them as guaranteed content.

Mining, Smithing and quest proposals

The overview asks whether Jagex should explore reworking Mining and Smithing; it does not announce a settled redesign. Fairytale III – Nexus of Power was described as due in 2027 if it passes a poll. The Chosen Commander and a Quest Month also appeared as proposals, alongside suggested quality-of-life changes for questing and new players.

RuneScape: Reignited points to a broad 2027 calendar

Jagex’s official RuneScape Reignited page calls 2027 the game’s biggest content calendar year to date and says the roadmap begins in January. It points to further chapters in ongoing story arcs and continuing work on a remastered player journey, with parts II and III expected later in the year. The page also says officially supported plugins have been integrated into the game.

This is a broad outlook, not a complete month-by-month schedule: the page does not give detailed release dates for every planned item.

Luminance and the Blood Crystal Saga

Jagex describes Luminance as the next free update, planned for December 2026 and intended as a prelude to the Blood Crystal Saga. The two-chapter saga starts with Song of Rebellion, involving rebel elves, Ailddinas and the Nos Clan. Crown of Night follows the conflict into an eclipsed region.

Hunter and new gameplay

Hunter is named as the next skill and the first of several new skills planned for the following year. Jagex describes its activities as sneaking, trapping and collecting creatures.

Modding, secure servers and leaderboards

Jagex says dedicated creation tools, an in-game mod browser and installer are planned for all platforms in the first half of 2027. The studio expects this feature set to coincide with Song of Rebellion, secure servers and leaderboards. These are announced intentions and schedules, not evidence that the features have already shipped.

Continuing updates

The studio says it plans to continue free updates and quality-of-life improvements, using player feedback to inform that work.

How firm are the different roadmaps?

Game What the official material says Timing and certainty
Old School RuneScape Hardcore Worlds, plus proposed bosses, areas, skill changes and quests Hardcore Worlds has a November 4 start date; several other items are proposals or poll-dependent.
RuneScape Ongoing story chapters, remastered player journey parts II and III, and integrated supported plugins Roadmap begins in January; parts II and III are expected later in 2027. No comprehensive release calendar is given.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Blood Crystal Saga, Hunter, creation tools and mod browser, secure servers, leaderboards, and ongoing updates Luminance is planned for December 2026; several other features are planned for the first half of 2027 or the following year.
New MMO No verified announcement details established by the official materials reviewed Unconfirmed; no verified title, platforms, release window or relationship to the current games.

The clearest difference is certainty: Old School’s overview openly mixes a dated announcement with concepts for polls, while Dragonwilds gives specific intended windows for multiple features. RuneScape’s Reignited page signals the scale and direction of its calendar but leaves the release-by-release timing open.
