DiskParInfo.bat is an inventory-and-logging batch file, not a repair tool. The Windows 11 Forum post by Ramesh Sharma describes running it either from Windows 11 boot media in WinPE or from an administrator Command Prompt in a live Windows installation. It invokes DiskPart, gathers disk and volume information, and writes a log using temporary files under %TEMP%. The author’s sample logs show both environments, but they are examples from one system rather than proof of compatibility with every Windows 11 image, storage controller, or drive.
What DiskParInfo.bat is intended to do
The script is designed to identify internal and external HDDs and SSDs, together with the partitions on those drives. In the author’s words, it is intended “to identify each external and internal HDD/SSD attached to the PC/laptop, along with all partitions on each drive.” Its role is collection and reporting: it asks DiskPart for disk and volume data, parses the resulting text in batch code, and assembles a log that also includes boot-configuration details shown in the author’s examples.

- Inventory: attached disks, volumes and partition information reported by the Windows environment in which the file runs.
- Logging: temporary log and work files are created beneath
%TEMP%while the batch file processes DiskPart output. - Environment-aware output: a WinPE run reflects the drives and services visible in boot media, while a live-OS run reflects the installed Windows session.
It does not constitute a disk-repair, partition-editing, formatting or data-recovery procedure. Running it should be treated as observation and logging; do not assume that a successful report has changed a disk or fixed a boot problem.

The two launch modes answer different practical needs. WinPE is useful when the installed operating system cannot boot or when you need to inspect storage before starting Windows. A live installation is simpler when Windows is already running and you can open an elevated Command Prompt. The available evidence does not establish that either mode produces a more complete or more accurate report.

Prepare DiskParInfo.bat safely
Save the file with the expected extension
If you copy the code into Notepad, the author says to choose All Files in the Save As dialog and save it using ANSI encoding. Choosing a text-document type can silently append .txt, creating a file that looks like a batch file but will not launch as DiskParInfo.bat. ANSI is the encoding specified by the post; do not substitute a different encoding unless you have verified that the script still parses correctly in your environment.
For WinPE, place it on the boot media
Copy DiskParInfo.bat to the root of the media’s FAT32 partition. The procedure described by the author assumes that this partition is accessible after booting and that you can determine its temporary WinPE drive letter. A drive letter assigned in WinPE can differ from the letter used for the same partition after Windows starts, so do not rely on the installed OS’s usual letter.
For a live OS, choose an accessible folder
Store the file in a folder you can reach from an elevated Command Prompt. The script’s working files are placed under the current session’s %TEMP% directory, so the account and environment used to launch it must have a usable temporary directory.

Run it from Windows 11 WinPE
- Prepare Windows 11 boot media. Microsoft Learn documents how to create bootable Windows PE USB media. The media must expose a FAT32 partition that remains accessible at the command prompt.
- Copy the batch file. Put
DiskParInfo.batin the root of that FAT32 partition before booting. - Boot the target computer from the media. Stop at the first Windows setup screen rather than continuing with installation.
- Open Command Prompt. Press Shift+F10 at that first screen, as specified in the forum procedure.
- Find the media’s drive letter. Use DiskPart to identify which volume is the FAT32 partition containing the file. WinPE assigns letters independently of the installed Windows session, so verify the letter in this booted environment.
- Launch the file from that volume. Switch to the identified drive and run
DiskParInfo.bat. Allow the batch process to invoke DiskPart and finish assembling its log. - Review and preserve the output. The author’s code creates temporary log and work files under
%TEMP%. Copy any report you need to retain to another accessible location before leaving WinPE, because temporary files are not a durable archive of the session.
The sample WinPE output in the post includes disk, volume and boot details. Treat those lines as an illustration of the author’s machine. A different WinPE image may expose different device names, volumes or boot information depending on its storage drivers and configuration.
Run it from a live Windows 11 installation
- Open an elevated Command Prompt. The author specifically calls for a Command Prompt started with administrator privileges; a standard prompt may not provide the same visibility or access.
- Change to the folder containing the file. Use the path where you saved
DiskParInfo.bat, checking that the filename has not gained a hidden.txtsuffix. - Run the batch file. Launch
DiskParInfo.batand let it complete its DiskPart-based collection. - Inspect the generated log. The live-OS example in the post records storage and boot-configuration information visible to the running Windows installation. Keep a copy outside the temporary working area if you need to compare it later.
A live run is the more direct choice when the computer is already operating normally. It avoids rebooting, but it reports from inside the installed operating system rather than from a clean preinstallation environment.
How the batch file builds its report
DiskPart supplies the raw inventory
The posted code invokes DiskPart to obtain disk and volume listings. Batch logic then parses the textual disk-list output and combines the extracted information into a log. Consequently, the report is limited to what DiskPart and the active Windows environment can see at that moment.

Temporary files are part of the workflow
Log and work-file paths are set beneath %TEMP%. This explains why a run can appear to finish without placing a permanent report beside the batch file: the intermediate and final material may be in the session’s temporary directory. It also means that a WinPE session and a live session can use different temporary locations and produce environment-specific files.

Boot details are additional context
The author’s examples include boot-configuration information alongside disk and volume data. Such lines describe the boot state visible to that session; they should not be interpreted as a repair action or as confirmation that every boot entry on every machine will be discovered.
Read the output without over-interpreting it
- Match disks to volumes: use the disk and volume sections together rather than treating a volume entry as a separate physical drive.
- Separate environment from hardware: a missing volume in WinPE can reflect what that image exposes, while a live-OS listing reflects the installed system’s drivers and services.
- Record the context: note whether the report came from WinPE or the live OS, the date, and the machine on which it was generated.
- Use it as evidence for investigation: the report can document what was visible before troubleshooting, but it does not establish disk health, guarantee that every attached device was detected, or prove that a partition is safe to modify.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
The command says the file is not found
In WinPE, re-check the drive letter assigned to the FAT32 boot partition; it may not match the letter used in the installed OS. Confirm that the file is in the partition’s root and that Notepad did not append .txt. In a live OS, verify the current directory and the exact filename.

The prompt reports an access or privilege problem
For a live run, close the window and reopen Command Prompt with administrator privileges, as the author instructs. In WinPE, the procedure already starts from the command prompt opened with Shift+F10; if a particular custom image behaves differently, its policies or loaded components may be responsible.
The report is incomplete or differs between boots
Compare the environment first. WinPE and the installed OS can load different storage drivers and assign different letters. External-drive power, controller support and the particular WinPE image can also affect what DiskPart can enumerate. The forum post does not independently validate the script across WinPE versions, machines, controllers or storage drivers, so a discrepancy is not proof that either report is universally correct.
No lasting log remains after rebooting
Because the script uses %TEMP% for working and log paths, copy the output to persistent storage before closing WinPE or restarting Windows. Preserve the original environment details with the file so later readers know how it was produced.

Windows PE components: what Microsoft’s note does and does not say
Microsoft’s WinPE documentation says that, when Windows Setup is launched from WinPE on Windows 11, the WinPE-WMI and WinPE-SecureStartup optional components should be added. That statement is specific to launching Windows Setup. It does not establish that either component is required merely to run DiskParInfo.bat, and the forum post does not identify them as a prerequisite for this inventory script. If you are building media for Setup as well as diagnostics, follow Microsoft’s component guidance for that Setup scenario.
What this method can—and cannot—prove
DiskParInfo.bat offers a repeatable way to capture the storage view exposed by DiskPart in two useful contexts: before Windows starts and from inside the running installation. That distinction can help document which disks and partitions are visible during troubleshooting. However, the available evidence is an author-reported forum procedure with example logs, not independent testing. Do not claim that it detects every attached drive, works on all Windows 11 boot media, or repairs a damaged partition. For decisions that could alter data, use the report as one diagnostic input and verify the device identity with additional, appropriate safeguards.
