Rubbermaid Brilliance Glass containers pair a glass base with a plastic lid, so they are not all-glass. Rubbermaid describes them as BPA-free, airtight and leakproof, and says the glass is stain- and odor-resistant. The glass base is rated for oven use up to 450°F, but the lid has separate limits. Those specifications may suit people replacing stained plastic containers, but they do not establish that every component is “non-toxic” in every sense or that the containers will never retain an odor.
What Rubbermaid Brilliance Glass containers are
The Brilliance Glass line combines glass container bases with latching plastic lids. Rubbermaid describes the lids as airtight and leakproof and says they have a vent for splatter-resistant microwave use. It also describes the glass and lid as stain- and odor-resistant, and the product as BPA-free. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Rubbermaid’s Brilliance Glass product page has the current product details.

“BPA-free” is a specific statement about bisphenol A; by itself, it does not prove that every component is free of every chemical concern or safe under every possible use. The lid is still plastic. If avoiding plastic contact is your priority, this design does not eliminate it.

The glass base and plastic lid do not share the same use limits. Rubbermaid’s product page says the glass base is oven-safe up to 450°F. Do not put the plastic lid in a conventional oven. For microwave use, Rubbermaid’s product page describes vented-lid use, while its care instructions specifically say: “The plastic lid is suitable for storage and microwave reheating only.” Follow the instructions supplied with your specific set. Rubbermaid’s Glass Brilliance use-and-care instructions provide the component-specific guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- LEAK-PROOF AND AIRTIGHT: Rubbermaid Brilliance Glass Food Storage Containers have crystal-clear lids that are 100% airtight and leak-proof, plus odor and stain resistant
- EASY STORAGE AND REHEATING: Glass containers have vented, microwave-safe lids for easy, splatter-resistant microwaving
- SPACE SAVING: Space-saving, modular Rubbermaid containers are perfect for stacking and organization
- OVEN-SAFE: Glass bases are oven-safe up to 450 degrees F, so they double as glass cookware and serveware
- EASY TO USE: BPA-free, dishwasher-safe (use top rack for lids), microwave-safe for reheating only with lids unlatched, and freezer-safe
- Oven: Rubbermaid rates the glass base for oven use up to 450°F. Remove the plastic lid.
- Microwave: Use the lid only for microwave reheating, following the set’s venting directions. The lid is not for conventional oven use.
- Dishwasher: Rubbermaid describes the containers as dishwasher-compatible and the lids as top-rack dishwasher-safe. Check the care information for your particular set.
- Freezer: Rubbermaid describes the containers as freezer-compatible. Its instructions warn: “Do not take product directly from freezer to oven or microwave.”
The freezer warning matters because a rapid temperature change can stress glass. Move a frozen container into the refrigerator to thaw, or otherwise let it warm gradually, rather than transferring it straight to a hot appliance.
Do they solve staining, smells, and leaks?
Rubbermaid says the glass and plastic lid are stain- and odor-resistant, and calls the seal airtight and leakproof. Those claims address common complaints about food-storage containers, but they are not guarantees that a container can never stain, hold an odor, or leak in every circumstance. The available product information does not establish independent leak or odor testing. For transport, make sure the lid is fully latched and keep especially spill-sensitive items upright.

The glass base is the part that replaces a plastic vessel; the lid remains plastic. That distinction is important if your goal is to reduce staining or lingering odors in the container itself, but not if your requirement is to avoid plastic altogether.

Which set size is identified?
Rubbermaid’s medium rectangular Brilliance Glass set is listed as a three-pack, with each container holding 4.7 cups. That is a product listing detail, not an independent capacity measurement. See the medium rectangular set page for that configuration.

Who should consider this glass-and-plastic design?
Brilliance Glass is a reasonable option to consider if you want glass food-storage bases, want to reheat in the microwave or use the base in an oven within the stated limit, and are comfortable keeping a plastic lid in the system. Its claimed stain and odor resistance may be appealing when replacing containers whose plastic bases have become marked or smelly. If your priority is an all-glass storage system or a broad assurance that every component is “non-toxic,” the product description does not support either conclusion.
