For most people building a high-settings 1440p gaming PC on a budget, the RTX 5070 is the more sensible buy—provided its current price is reasonable. Choose the RTX 5070 Ti if you target high-refresh 1440p, want more room for demanding ray tracing, or plan selective 4K gaming, and the extra cost is acceptable. At the US price snapshot published October 1 and accessed October 3, 2026, both cards were listed above launch MSRP, with the Ti carrying the larger premium.

What separates the RTX 5070 from the 5070 Ti?

The Ti has more listed GPU resources and 4 GB more video memory. NVIDIA’s product page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists 8,960 CUDA cores and 16 GB of GDDR7 for the RTX 5070 Ti, compared with 6,144 CUDA cores and 12 GB of GDDR7 for the RTX 5070. Those figures describe specifications, not a guaranteed performance uplift: results depend on the game, settings, and rendering features in use.

Specification or context RTX 5070 RTX 5070 Ti

CUDA cores 6,144 8,960
US launch MSRP $549 $749
Reported power target 250W 300W
Best fit Mainstream high-settings 1440p High-refresh 1440p, demanding ray tracing, selective 4K

The launch MSRPs and power figures are reported by iTechGuides in its August 11, 2026 comparison; they are reference points, not a promise about today’s prices or every partner card. The extra memory on the Ti gives it more capacity headroom, but it does not establish a specific lifespan advantage. There is no basis here for saying 12 GB is inadequate for all 1440p gaming.

Which card makes more sense for your games and display?

Choose the RTX 5070 for mainstream 1440p

If your goal is high settings at 1440p and you do not need the highest possible frame rate or the heaviest ray-tracing settings, the RTX 5070 is the more budget-conscious choice. Its 12 GB of memory is not proof of a limitation in every current game; judge it against the games and settings you actually play, rather than a blanket claim about future adequacy.

Choose the RTX 5070 Ti for more demanding targets

The 5070 Ti is a better fit when you want higher-refresh 1440p, use demanding ray tracing, or intend to play selected games at 4K. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup says it can reach 60+ FPS at 4K in some circumstances; that is not a guarantee for every game, settings preset, or rendering mode. The higher price must still make sense for your budget.

Read performance charts with their settings attached

NVIDIA’s comparison graphic shows 1440p performance at maximum settings with DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction. In that graphic, the RTX 50-series uses Multi Frame Generation (4X), while the RTX 40-series uses Frame Generation. It is therefore not a clean comparison of native rendering performance. No transparent, consistent independent head-to-head suite is established here to support a universal percentage claim that the Ti is a specific amount faster. Treat any number as meaningful only when the games, hardware, settings, upscaling, and frame-generation conditions are stated.

How do the prices compare?

The US launch MSRPs were $549 for the RTX 5070 and $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti, according to iTechGuides. They are historical launch prices, not current street-price targets. PC Gamer’s price-watch page, published October 1, 2026 and accessed October 3, listed a Walmart RTX 5070 at $779 and a Newegg RTX 5070 Ti at $1,149.99.

These are individual, time-sensitive listings, not a survey of all retailers or a stable market price. At those listed prices, the Ti’s premium is substantial; compare live offers before buying, because stock and prices can change. Tom’s Hardware’s July 27, 2026 report described separate price increases for selected RTX 5070 Ti models in China—up to 76% above MSRP in MSI’s published list and about 58.7% for selected Colorful models. Those figures are specific to that market and should not be read as US pricing.

Will either card fit your PC?

The reported reference-level power targets are 250W for the RTX 5070 and 300W for the Ti. Partner-board designs can differ, so do not choose a power supply based only on the GPU name or reference figure.

  • Check the exact card’s manufacturer-recommended PSU wattage and power connector.
  • Confirm the card’s length, thickness, and clearance against your case.
  • Make sure your case airflow and cooling suit the specific board design.
  • Compare the complete card listing, including seller, warranty, dimensions, and actual price.

Buying recommendation

Buy the RTX 5070 if you want a cost-conscious card for mainstream high-settings 1440p and find it at a price that fits your budget. Step up to the RTX 5070 Ti when its additional resources and 16 GB of memory suit your high-refresh, ray-tracing, or selective 4K goals—and the live price premium is worth paying to you. At the October 2026 US listings cited above, neither card was near launch MSRP, so the better choice depends as much on the actual offer as on the model.

NVIDIA said in a statement reproduced by Tom’s Guide in an update dated January 15, 2026: “Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs is strong, and memory supply is constrained. We continue to ship all GeForce SKUs and are working closely with our suppliers to maximize memory availability.” That describes the company’s position at that time; it is not a guarantee of current stock or future production.
