For most gaming buyers, the RTX 5070 is worth paying for when it costs no more than about 30–40% above the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. In Tom’s Hardware’s 21-game test suite, the RTX 5070 averaged 32% higher performance at 4K, with individual results ranging from 5% slower to 43% faster. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB becomes the better choice when it is substantially cheaper or when a game, creator application or local AI model actually benefits from 16GB of VRAM.

The decision is not simply “more VRAM versus more speed.” The RTX 5070 also has 50% more memory bandwidth, a 50% wider memory bus, one-third more streaming multiprocessors and higher compute throughput. The 5060 Ti’s 16GB capacity can prevent memory-related limits, but it does not make the card as fast as the 5070 when both can hold the workload in memory.

#1 Best Overall
ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7 OC EditionGaming Graphics Card | PCIe 5.0, HDMI/DP 2.1, 3.125-slot, Military-grade Components, Protective PCB Coating, Axial-tech Fans
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 OC mode: 2640MHz/Default mode: 2610MHz (Boost Clock)
  • Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability
  • Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
  • 3.125-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
  • Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
  • Premium up to about 30%: choose the RTX 5070 for gaming. Its typical 25–30% advantage and 32% 4K average lead are closely aligned with the extra cost.
  • Premium around 30–40%: the RTX 5070 is still the stronger performance-per-dollar choice if you play demanding games, use ray tracing or want more headroom for future titles.
  • Premium above 40%: the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB usually offers the more rational value, unless your games or applications clearly benefit from the 5070’s throughput.
  • Choose the 5060 Ti 16GB at any premium when capacity is the constraint: 16GB can matter for very high-resolution texture packs, some creator projects and local AI models that exceed 12GB.

Neither card is primarily a native-4K-ultra product. They are practical 1440p GPUs, with DLSS useful in demanding games. The benchmark evidence available here is a 4K comparison, so do not treat the 32% figure as a guaranteed 1440p uplift in every title.

Specifications: capacity versus throughput

Both cards use NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture and support DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation, ray tracing and Reflex. Their hardware balance is different.

Specification RTX 5060 Ti 16GB RTX 5070
GPU GB206 GB205
Process TSMC 4N TSMC 4N
Streaming multiprocessors 36 48
Shaders 4,608 6,144
Tensor/AI cores 144 192
Ray-tracing cores 36 48
Memory 16GB GDDR7 12GB GDDR7
Memory bus 128-bit 192-bit
Memory bandwidth 448GB/s 672GB/s
Total board power 180W 250W
Launch timing April 2025 March 2025
Launch MSRP (US) $429 $549

The RTX 5070 has 33% more SMs, shaders, tensor cores and RT cores than the 5060 Ti, while its 192-bit bus delivers 50% more bandwidth. That combination explains why it can render a scene faster even though it has 4GB less VRAM. The 5060 Ti’s advantage is capacity: 16GB versus 12GB, or one-third more memory.

How much faster is the RTX 5070?

Gaming results

Tom’s Hardware tested 21 games: 15 rasterization tests and six ray-tracing tests. At 4K, the RTX 5070 was 32% faster on average. Individual game results ranged from the RTX 5070 being 5% slower to 43% faster, so the average is a guide rather than a promise for a particular title.

Measured area RTX 5060 Ti 16GB RTX 5070 5070 advantage
4K gaming average across 21 games Baseline Baseline plus 32% 32% average; individual results −5% to +43%
Blender overall geomean 1,387.7 2,004.9 44.5% higher
MLPerf tokens per second 84.2 111.7 32.8% higher

At 1440p, the exact uplift will depend on whether the game is GPU-limited, CPU-limited, limited by ray tracing or constrained by VRAM. A title that fits comfortably inside 12GB may track the 5070’s compute advantage. A title that approaches or exceeds 12GB can produce a different result if the 5060 Ti’s extra capacity avoids texture streaming or stutter.

Rasterization, ray tracing and frame generation

The test suite combines conventional rasterization and ray tracing, so the 32% average includes both rendering types. The 5070’s additional RT cores give it more ray-tracing throughput, while both cards support the same Blackwell-era features: DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation and Reflex. Those features can improve perceived smoothness, but they do not erase the underlying difference in native rendering performance.

Frame-generation results should therefore be interpreted as an addition to a playable base frame rate, not as a reason to ignore GPU capability. If a game is already struggling to render its base frames, generating extra frames cannot fix every form of latency, image-quality problem or stutter.

Is 16GB VRAM more important than the RTX 5070’s speed?

When 16GB helps

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the safer capacity choice when your workload regularly allocates more than 12GB of graphics memory. Examples include:

  • Games using very high-resolution texture packs, extensive mods or unusually large open worlds.
  • Creator projects with large 3D scenes, high-resolution timelines, complex effects or multiple applications sharing GPU memory.
  • Local AI models and workflows whose model weights, context or intermediate tensors exceed a 12GB budget.

Extra VRAM can prevent out-of-memory errors, forced texture reductions or data transfers over the PCIe bus. In those cases, a slower card that completes the task is more useful than a faster card that cannot load it.

When 12GB is enough

For a normal 1440p library without extreme texture mods, 12GB can be sufficient. When both cards hold the game’s assets in memory, the RTX 5070’s wider bus, higher bandwidth and larger compute resources generally matter more than the unused 4GB on the 5060 Ti.

VRAM capacity and bandwidth solve different problems. Capacity determines how much data can reside on the card; bandwidth determines how quickly the GPU can move that data. The 5060 Ti has 16GB but 448GB/s of bandwidth. The 5070 has 12GB and 672GB/s, a 50% bandwidth advantage. Do not assume that the larger memory number automatically means higher frame rates.

Price and value in 2026

Launch-price benchmark

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB launched at $429 in the US, while the RTX 5070 launched at $549. The 5070’s $120 premium was approximately 28%, which closely matched its typical 25–30% gaming advantage and sat below the 32% 4K average measured by Tom’s Hardware.

RTX 5070 price Reasonable RTX 5060 Ti 16GB ceiling How to read it
$550 About $425 Roughly the launch-price relationship
$700 About $500–$540 Keep the 5060 Ti discount large enough to offset its lower speed

These ceilings are value guidelines, not fixed market prices. They express the idea that the 5060 Ti should be discounted by enough to compensate for a roughly 25–32% performance gap.

Observed US street prices

TechSpot’s July 2026 US survey listed the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at an average of $570, or 33% above its $430 MSRP, and the RTX 5070 at $600, about 9% above its $550 MSRP. At those averages, the 5070 costs only about 5% more than the 5060 Ti while delivering a much larger performance increase, making it the clear gaming value.

Tom’s Hardware later reported RTX 5070 medians around $850–$900 in an August 2026 Newegg survey. That illustrates why you must check the actual listings available to you: board-partner models, stock, retailer and country can change the relationship completely. A 5070 at $900 is not automatically a good deal simply because its launch MSRP was $549.

Calculate your own buying threshold

  1. Write down the complete prices of the two cards in the same currency, including delivery and taxes if they differ.
  2. Divide the RTX 5070 price by the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB price.
  3. Subtract 1 and multiply by 100 to get the percentage premium.
  4. Compare that premium with the 30–40% decision range, then check whether your workload requires more than 12GB.

For example, if the 5060 Ti costs $570 and the 5070 costs $600, the premium is approximately 5.3%: the 5070 is the obvious choice for gaming. If the 5060 Ti costs $500 and the 5070 costs $700, the premium is 40%; that is the point at which the cheaper card becomes more compelling unless you need the 5070’s extra rendering or compute speed.

Power, cooling and compatibility

Board power

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is rated at 180W total board power. The RTX 5070 is rated at 250W. A 5070 therefore places a greater load on the power supply and produces more heat to remove from the case, although real consumption varies by board design, clocks, game and power limit.

Power supply and connector checks

Before buying either card, check the exact board-partner model rather than relying only on the GPU name. Confirm:

  • The manufacturer’s recommended PSU capacity for that model and your CPU.
  • The included power adapter, if any, and whether your supply has the required native connector.
  • For a new build, an ATX 3.x supply with a native 12V-2×6 connection is a sensible compatibility choice for modern high-power graphics cards.
  • Available clearance for the card’s length, height and thickness, including front radiator or drive-cage conflicts.
  • Warranty terms, return period and the cooler design. Two cards with the same GPU can differ in acoustics, temperatures and factory power limits.

The 5060 Ti’s lower 180W rating can make it easier to cool in a compact or quiet system. The 5070’s 250W rating is manageable in a properly ventilated case, but it deserves a careful PSU and airflow check.

Creator, rendering and AI workloads

The productivity results favor the RTX 5070 when the application is compute-limited. In Tom’s Hardware’s Blender overall geomean, it scored 2,004.9 versus 1,387.7 for the 5060 Ti 16GB, a 44.5% advantage. In MLPerf, it delivered 111.7 tokens per second versus 84.2, or 32.8% higher throughput.

Those figures do not mean every creator application will be 44.5% or 32.8% faster. They show the direction of the trade-off: applications that can use the 5070’s additional shader, tensor and RT resources benefit substantially. Applications that are constrained by VRAM capacity may favor the 16GB card instead.

Choose the 5060 Ti 16GB for capacity-sensitive work

  • Your project routinely exceeds 12GB and fails, swaps or requires reduced texture or model settings on 12GB cards.
  • You value completing a larger local AI model more than finishing a smaller model faster.
  • Your software’s documentation identifies VRAM capacity as the limiting factor.

Choose the RTX 5070 for throughput-sensitive work

  • Your scenes and models fit inside 12GB but take too long to render or process.
  • You use Blender, AI inference or effects workloads that scale with shader, tensor or ray-tracing throughput.
  • You are buying primarily for gaming and want higher frame rates rather than maximum asset capacity.

Decision guide by buyer type

Buyer situation Better choice Reason
1440p gaming, similar prices RTX 5070 About 25–32% higher gaming performance in the available testing and more bandwidth.
1440p gaming, 5060 Ti at least 40% cheaper RTX 5060 Ti 16GB The discount can outweigh the performance deficit.
Heavy texture mods or large asset packs RTX 5060 Ti 16GB 16GB reduces the risk of a 12GB capacity limit.
Ray-tracing-focused games RTX 5070 It has 48 RT cores versus 36 and higher overall throughput.
Blender or GPU compute, assets fit in 12GB RTX 5070 The measured Blender geomean advantage was 44.5%.
Local AI model exceeds 12GB RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Capacity can determine whether the model loads at all.
Small, quiet or lower-power build RTX 5060 Ti 16GB 180W board power is lower than the 5070’s 250W, subject to model-specific cooling.

Buying checklist and common mistakes

Check the exact price relationship

Do not compare a discounted 5060 Ti with a premium triple-fan 5070, or a basic 5070 with an overpriced 5060 Ti, without accounting for the complete card price. The GPU tier matters, but cooler, warranty and retailer terms affect the value of a particular listing.

Do not buy on VRAM number alone

Sixteen gigabytes is useful only when the workload needs it. If your games fit inside 12GB, the 5070’s 672GB/s bandwidth and larger compute configuration are more relevant than the 5060 Ti’s unused capacity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume benchmark averages apply to every game

The 32% figure is an average across 21 games at 4K. Results varied from 5% slower to 43% faster for the 5070. Check independent testing for the specific games, resolutions and settings you use when that distinction matters.

Budget for the platform

Include the PSU, case clearance, cooling and any required power cable in the purchase decision. A card that fits the budget but forces a new supply or case can erase its apparent savings.

Bottom line

Buy the RTX 5070 when its street price is within roughly 30–40% of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, especially for 1440p gaming, ray tracing, Blender or other throughput-limited workloads. Buy the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB when it is substantially cheaper, your system favors its lower 180W power level, or your games and applications genuinely need more than 12GB of VRAM. The right answer is determined by the price premium and the workload’s bottleneck—not by speed or memory capacity in isolation.
