The latest figures show growth—not a company-wide earnings decline—while the construction weakness that most sharply affected results was reported in fiscal Q2 2026 and was followed by stronger quarters.
What RPM reported in its latest quarter
RPM International Inc. said sales for the quarter ended August 31, 2026, were $2.22 billion, up 4.8% year over year. Adjusted diluted earnings per share (EPS) rose 5.3% to $1.98, and adjusted EBITDA reached a record $405.5 million, up 4.5%. These are company-reported results; adjusted measures are not the same as GAAP results. RPM’s October 6, 2026 results release provides the figures and the company’s explanations.

RPM credited organic growth in Performance Coatings and Consumer, along with manufacturing, procurement and selling, general and administrative (SG&A) efficiencies. It also cited raw-material inflation and a temporary slowdown in Construction Products as challenges. The release does not establish a market-wide construction statistic, so the slowdown should be read as RPM’s description of its own business conditions rather than a measure of the entire construction industry.
What the latest outlook says
For fiscal Q2 2027, RPM forecast low- to mid-single-digit growth in sales and adjusted EBITDA. For fiscal 2027 as a whole, its October 6 guidance called for mid-single-digit growth in both measures. These are management’s outlooks, not reported results. The October guidance is the current outlook in the cited releases.
#1 Best Overall
- Our strongest formula: This heavy duty glue is 2x stronger than Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate
- Crystal clear: Clear Gorilla glue leaves a discreet finish to keep the focus on your project, not the glue
- All purpose glue: A waterproof glue formulated for virtually all projects and repairs; this Gorilla glue gives indoor or outdoor projects a Gorilla Tough bond, even under water
- Paintable: Because this adhesive glue works on so many surfaces, it's paintable for any finish that you prefer
- Gap filling: Gorilla Glue Construction Adhesive also works as a gap filling adhesive caulk for in-home projects
That outlook is narrower in wording than the range RPM gave on July 22, 2026: sales growth of 3% to 7% and adjusted EBITDA growth of 5% to 10%. The July release also reported fiscal 2026 record sales of $7.86 billion, up 6.7%, and adjusted diluted EPS of $5.53, up 4.3%. RPM’s fiscal 2026 results and July outlook are useful context, but they predate the October update.
How construction weakness affected the earlier results
The clearest earnings impact in the period described by the construction-slowdown framing came in fiscal Q2 2026, reported January 8, 2026. RPM recorded a 0.5% organic sales decline; adjusted EBIT fell 11.2% to $226.6 million, and adjusted diluted EPS fell 13.7% to $1.20. Organic sales exclude the effects of acquisitions and currency, so the decline is not interchangeable with a change in total reported sales. The Q2 release gives the reported results.
Rank #2
- All Purpose: One component polyurethane-based adhesive that covers a wide variety of projects and bonds to most materials for consistently successful results
- 3X Stronger: 3 times as strong as ordinary construction adhesives and stronger than many substrates it joins together
- Versatile: Ideal for sub floor installations and bonds to most common construction materials such as wood, OSB, drywall, brick, concrete, masonry, stone, foam insulation, metal, ceramic, PVC, and more
- Interior and Exterior: Paintable adhesive with no strong solvent odor that sets in 30 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours for projects inside and out
- Weather Resistant: Waterproof and can be applied directly to wet and frozen surfaces without shrinking and cures in cold temperatures
RPM’s management attributed slower growth to longer lead times on construction projects, citing the extended federal government shutdown and soft do-it-yourself (DIY) demand as contributors. Chairman and CEO Frank C. Sullivan said the shutdown “contributed to the trend of longer lead times on construction projects and further pressured already negative consumer sentiment.” This is management’s explanation of RPM’s results and customer conditions, not an independently measured estimate of construction activity. The same release announced optimization actions that RPM estimated would provide $100 million in annual benefits; that was a management estimate, not a guaranteed realized saving. Sullivan’s statement and the company’s explanation appear in the January release.
Why the slowdown framing needs a timeline
The Q2 weakness did not continue unchanged through the next reported quarters. In fiscal Q3 2026, RPM reported record sales of $1.61 billion, up 8.9%, and adjusted diluted EPS of $0.57, up 62.9%. The company cited high-performance-building solutions, acquisitions, favorable currency and a rebound from the government shutdown, partly offset by soft DIY demand. RPM’s April 8 Q3 release describes those results and drivers.
Rank #3
- STRONG, LASTING CONSTRUCTION BOND: Liquid Nails heavy duty construction adhesive forms a permanent bond that outlasts the project on interior and exterior builds.
- WATERPROOF & WEATHERPROOF: Holds up to moisture, humidity and temperature swings indoors and out, making it ideal for decks, siding and exterior trim.
- BONDS MANY MATERIALS: Grips wood, plywood, OSB, drywall, tileboard, brick veneer, concrete and more for framing, paneling and remodeling jobs.
- EXCEPTIONAL HOLDING POWER: High-strength formula bridges gaps and holds heavy materials with a flexible bond that resists impact and movement.
- GENEROUS COVERAGE: One cartridge covers roughly 30+ linear feet with a 1/4-inch bead; meets ASTM C-557 for construction adhesive performance.
Fiscal 2026 then ended with record annual sales, and the latest Q1 FY2027 release again reported growth in sales and adjusted earnings. The current caution is more specific: RPM noted a temporary slowdown in Construction Products alongside raw-material inflation. That sequence makes the headline’s construction concern relevant, but it does not describe the most recent results as an overall earnings contraction.

How to read the earnings measures
- Sales: Reported sales include the business as reported; organic sales are a separate growth measure that removes acquisition and currency effects. Do not treat the Q2 organic decline as a total-sales decline.
- Adjusted EPS, EBIT and EBITDA: These are explicitly adjusted measures in RPM’s releases. They should not be presented as GAAP earnings or compared with GAAP figures without accounting for the differences.
- Segment and management commentary: Performance Coatings, Consumer and Construction Products observations describe RPM’s operations. Management’s explanations about project timing, shutdown effects and demand are attributed views, not independent market measurements.
