RPCS3 requirements at a glance
The project’s most detailed public requirements list is its official FAQ. It warns that requirements are not fully known and may change as development continues, so treat the table below as a documented baseline rather than a permanent specification.

CPU: what the x64 minimum really tells you
x64 means the processor supports the 64-bit x86 instruction environment used by the emulator. On a Windows PC, open Settings → System → About and look for “System type.” A compatible entry normally identifies a 64-bit operating system and an x64-based processor. On Linux, run lscpu in a terminal and check that the architecture is reported as x86_64.
That check answers only the architecture question. The FAQ does not publish a current recommended processor, a core-count target, a clock-speed target, or a universal performance tier. Therefore, two x64 computers can meet the stated minimum while delivering different results in demanding games. A processor that passes the architecture check is not automatically a guarantee of full-speed emulation.
If you are comparing an existing PC with a planned upgrade, use the CPU as one of four checks: x64 architecture, graphics-API support, a supported operating system, and the compatibility notes for your games. There is no authoritative basis in the FAQ for ranking named CPUs or declaring one current model the “best” RPCS3 processor.

GPU: OpenGL 4.3 is the floor; Vulkan is preferred
OpenGL 4.3 minimum
The documented minimum is a graphics card capable of OpenGL 4.3. Confirm support for the specific GPU model and its current driver. A label such as “gaming graphics” or a large video-memory number does not establish OpenGL version support by itself. If the card cannot expose OpenGL 4.3, it is below the stated graphics requirement.
Why Vulkan matters
The FAQ states: “A modern Vulkan compatible graphics card is highly recommended.” The project’s download page also presents Vulkan rendering as recommended: RPCS3 Download. This is a category-level recommendation, not a mandatory named card. The official material does not set a minimum Vulkan version, a performance score, or a particular manufacturer model.

- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
- Video Memory: 4GB DDR4
- Boost Clock: 1430 MHz
- Memory Interface: 64-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 1 (v1.4a) / HDMI 2.0b x 1
When checking a system, look up the exact GPU and the operating-system driver’s documented OpenGL and Vulkan support. If RPCS3 offers a Vulkan renderer on your installation, it is the renderer to try first because it aligns with the project’s recommendation. Keep the driver current, but do not interpret a driver update as proof that every game will become playable.
Integrated Intel graphics warning
The FAQ specifically warns that integrated Intel GPUs may not work correctly and are unsupported. This is narrower than saying every integrated GPU is impossible, but it is a clear reason not to plan a system around Intel integrated graphics for RPCS3. If your PC has both integrated and discrete graphics, make sure the emulator is using the supported adapter rather than silently selecting the integrated one.
Operating-system support and the macOS qualification
The FAQ describes RPCS3 as targeting Windows and Linux. It also documents macOS as unsupported, citing a stated OpenGL ceiling of 4.1 and the lack of Vulkan support on that platform. Those details come from a page last edited April 29, 2020, so they describe the FAQ’s published position at that time rather than a guarantee that no later project change is possible.
For a Windows or Linux installation, still verify the current setup guidance and download page immediately before installing. For a Mac, do not assume that a newer Apple computer changes the project’s documented support status; look for a current official announcement before relying on it for a PS3-emulation setup.
RAM and storage: why there is no official number here
The official FAQ page used for the requirements does not state a current RAM capacity or storage quota. That means a precise “RPCS3 needs X GB of RAM” or “Y GB of free disk space” claim would not be an official requirement supported by this material. Unofficial quick-start pages may list numbers, but they should not be presented as RPCS3’s authoritative specification.

- Original half height bracket matches with the low profile brackets make the Glorto GeForce GT 740 graphics card fit well with all PC tower, small form factor and HTPC(except micro form factor)
You still need enough memory and disk space for your operating system, the emulator, updates, and the game data you legally use. The exact amount depends on those other factors, so check the current project documentation and the storage needs of your own library instead of treating an invented universal number as a pass/fail test.
Why passing the requirements does not guarantee a playable game
RPCS3 is not a single uniform workload. Each PS3 title can exercise the emulator differently, and the project tracks results at the game level. The RPCS3 Compatibility List says its content changes frequently. Its “Playable” definition is specific: “Games that can be completed with playable performance and no game breaking glitches.”
Use that list as a second gate after checking your hardware. Open the entry for every title you care about, read its current status and notes, and check again near installation because statuses can change. A PC can satisfy the x64 and graphics-API requirements while a particular game remains limited by title-specific emulation issues. Conversely, a game with a favorable status may run acceptably on a system that is not a high-end build, provided it still meets the documented compatibility baseline.
Can my PC run RPCS3? A practical check
- Confirm the platform. Identify whether the machine runs Windows or Linux, the platforms named by the FAQ. If it runs macOS, treat the FAQ’s unsupported status as a blocker until current official documentation says otherwise.
- Confirm x64. In Windows, use Settings → System → About and check for an x64-based processor. In Linux, run
lscpuand look forx86_64. - Identify the active GPU. Record the exact adapter used for the emulator, especially on a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics. Do not check only the display name; verify the model and driver.
- Verify the API. Consult current GPU and driver documentation for OpenGL 4.3 capability. Then verify Vulkan support, since the project highly recommends a modern Vulkan-compatible card.
- Check each game. Search the official compatibility list for the titles you intend to play. Read the status and notes rather than relying on a generic “RPCS3-ready” label.
- Install the current official build. Use the project’s official download page and re-check its renderer guidance. Requirements and compatibility can evolve, so an old installer or old status page may not represent the current situation.
When a hardware upgrade is justified
Your CPU is not x64
This fails the documented architecture requirement. A software setting cannot turn a non-x64 processor into a supported x64 CPU; the practical remedy is a different computer or platform.
Your GPU lacks OpenGL 4.3
The graphics card is below the published minimum. An upgrade is relevant if the replacement provides at least OpenGL 4.3 and, preferably, modern Vulkan support. The official materials do not establish a particular model, price, or performance guarantee, so choose only after verifying the exact card and driver.

Your GPU supports OpenGL 4.3 but not Vulkan
The system may satisfy the stated minimum API while missing the project’s preferred renderer. Treat Vulkan support as an upgrade priority rather than assuming that OpenGL compliance alone represents the recommended experience.
Your PC passes both checks but a game performs poorly
Do not immediately buy a faster component. First read that game’s current compatibility entry and notes. The requirements page itself does not promise uniform performance across the library, and the compatibility list is the authority for title-specific status.
You are relying on Intel integrated graphics
The FAQ calls integrated Intel graphics unsupported and warns that they may not work correctly. Plan around a supported graphics adapter instead of assuming an integrated solution will be accepted.

RPCS3 cannot initialize graphics
Recheck which adapter the emulator selected, confirm that its driver exposes OpenGL 4.3, and verify Vulkan support. On systems with two GPUs, force the application to use the supported adapter through the operating system’s graphics preference controls. If Vulkan is available, test the Vulkan renderer recommended by the project.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe emulator launches, but a specific game has glitches
Separate emulator-wide requirements from game-level compatibility. Search the title in the official list, read its current notes, and check the date or recency of the entry. A game-specific issue is not proof that your CPU or GPU fails the general minimum.

A Mac appears powerful enough
Raw processor or GPU capability does not override the FAQ’s documented macOS position. Because that statement is tied to a 2020-edited page, verify current official documentation rather than relying on assumptions based on newer Mac hardware.
An online guide gives different RAM or GPU numbers
Prefer the official FAQ and current project pages. The FAQ does not provide a numeric RAM requirement, named GPU recommendation, or universal CPU tier, so treat unsupported precision as a third-party estimate rather than an RPCS3 specification.
What the official requirements leave deliberately open
The project’s own wording is cautious: requirements are “still not fully known and may change a lot during its current development stage.” Consequently, there is no official one-line build that guarantees every game, no current CPU shopping list, no numeric RAM minimum in the cited FAQ, and no GPU model that promises a particular frame rate. The safest buying decision is therefore API-first and game-specific: meet x64 and OpenGL 4.3, prefer modern Vulkan, use a supported operating system, and validate the games you actually want to run.

For the documented baseline, RPCS3 needs an x64 CPU and an OpenGL 4.3-capable graphics card. A modern Vulkan-compatible GPU is strongly preferred, and integrated Intel graphics are unsupported according to the FAQ. Windows and Linux are the documented target platforms, while the FAQ lists macOS as unsupported. Those checks only establish that your PC is a candidate; the live compatibility entry for each PS3 game determines whether that title is likely to be completable and playable.
