The uploader reported different results by game, so this is not evidence that PS5 or PS5 Pro can generally play PS3 games. The RPCS3 team commentary reported elsewhere concerns the PS5’s CPU and emulation capability; it does not endorse or validate this particular homebrew build.
What the PS5 Pro report claims
On October 7, 2026, Reddit user u/LavaVex said RPCS3 was running as a native PS5 title on a jailbroken PS5 Pro with firmware 13.60. The post says it used Vulkan through a community graphics-driver port and could be launched from the console’s home screen. These are the uploader’s claims, not independently verified findings. Results varied by game
- Need for Speed Carbon: the uploader claimed a locked 60 fps, with audio and DualSense input. That figure describes one experimental test, not a verified or general PS5 Pro performance result.
- inFAMOUS: the uploader said it booted and was playable, including save and load, but stuttered and slowed below full speed in demanding areas.
The poster said testing covered one console and a handful of games, warned of crashes and broken games, and explicitly called the build unofficial. A successful launch or one game’s reported frame rate does not establish reliable compatibility across the PS3 library.
What the RPCS3 team reportedly said about PS5
Notebookcheck reported on September 8, 2026, that the RPCS3 team considers the PS5’s eight-core Zen 2 CPU insufficient to properly emulate PS3 games. The article discusses whether future hardware, such as a potential PS6, could handle the task. It is secondary reporting of collective team commentary, not a named developer’s direct assessment of the PS5 Pro homebrew build. Read Notebookcheck’s report.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
That reported CPU assessment and the community demonstration address different questions: the team commentary concerns what it takes to emulate PS3 games properly, while the Reddit post describes a particular experimental build and a small number of game tests. Neither establishes an official PS5 port.
Is RPCS3 officially supported on PS5?
No. RPCS3’s official repository describes the project as a free, open-source PlayStation 3 emulator and debugger for Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD; PS5 is not among its listed platforms. Check the RPCS3 repository.
Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide does not list RPCS3 or PS3 emulation as a supported feature. See Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide. The guide does not speak to every unofficial modification, but alongside RPCS3’s platform list and the uploader’s disclaimer, it provides no basis to call this a Sony-supported feature.

Can you play a PS3 game disc this way?
The Reddit post says the builder used an Arch-based Linux machine and a bootstrap script to create an installable title folder. It says game files can be loaded from internal storage or an exFAT USB drive, and that users must provide PS3 firmware and games. It does not establish that a PS3 disc can be inserted and played directly, provide a general installation recipe, or show that a ready-to-install build is broadly available. The post’s storage details should not be taken as proof of a supported or straightforward setup.
Quick Recap
What this means for PS5 and PS5 Pro owners
- Can a PS5 Pro run RPCS3? One uploader reports an experimental build on one jailbroken PS5 Pro. That is a narrow demonstration, not general compatibility evidence.
- Does it mean PS3 games work reliably? No. The same post describes mixed, game-specific results and warns that crashes and broken games should be expected.
- Did RPCS3 release a PS5 port? The uploader says the build is not official, and PS5 is absent from the project repository’s listed platforms.
- Is an exFAT USB drive required? The post presents it as one way to load game files, alongside internal storage; it does not identify a required drive model.
