Start with music whose license explicitly covers your platform, live broadcasts, and any saved version of the stream. “Royalty-free” does not mean copyright-free or automatically cleared for every use. A track can be permitted in a live broadcast but restricted in its VOD, clips, monetization, territory, or use on another service.
Where to find music cleared for live streaming
StreamBeats: a free option with a published streamer license
StreamBeats, published by Senpai Records, offers a license described as gratis, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-transferable, and perpetual for syncing its tracks with video on Twitch, YouTube, podcasts, or equivalent platforms. Its license allows monetization and does not require credit. Read the full license before using a track: it restricts standalone redistribution, reuploads to music platforms, music-only radio, derivatives, and other uses. Games, movies, and television require separate licensing.

StreamBeats says false YouTube Content ID claims can happen and provides a process for reporting them. Keep the track and license details and use the publisher’s current claim-resolution instructions if a claim appears; permission does not guarantee automated systems will never flag a broadcast or archive.

Twitch’s listed music options
Twitch’s Music Options for Streamers page lists options including Chillhop, NCS, and StreamBeats. It also refers to Pretzel. Treat the page as a place to begin checking, not proof that a particular catalog, track, or plan currently covers your use. Verify the present license terms for the specific service and track.

YouTube Creator Music: check scope before using it live
YouTube Creator Music is a catalog for eligible creators and videos, with track-specific usage details that may include no-cost licensing or revenue sharing. The help page describes use in videos; it does not establish a general license for livestreams. Access is limited to U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators. Confirm the track’s displayed terms and platform scope rather than assuming a video license covers a live broadcast.
The same help page says paid licenses are being phased out beginning in August 2026, with August 10, 2026 stated as the paid-license cutoff. The remaining model focuses on no-cost and revenue-sharing tracks. Check the current help page and track terms because availability and program rules can change.

Paid libraries: verify today’s plan and track terms
A November 11, 2020 Twitch blog post named Soundstripe, Monstercat Gold, Chillhop, Epidemic Sound, and NCS as rights-cleared alternatives at the time. That historical list is not confirmation of current plans or coverage. Before subscribing, check the specific plan and track for live use, VODs, clips, monetization, territory, and use outside the platform where you stream.

Read the license for the exact track and the exact way you intend to use it. These distinctions are what determine whether a seemingly suitable track is actually covered.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Platform and territory | Permission for one service or region may not cover another. YouTube requires content providers to have the necessary music rights for exploitation on Google services worldwide; Twitch’s guidance also warns that a license may not cover the particular Twitch use or global streaming. |
| Live use versus recordings | A license for a live performance may not also cover the VOD, clips, highlights, or later uploads. Check rights for each version that will remain available. |
| Monetization | Look for permission covering the way the channel earns money, such as ads, subscriptions, or sponsorships. StreamBeats explicitly permits monetization within its stated license scope. |
| Attribution and duration | Confirm whether credit is required and how long the permission lasts. StreamBeats says its license is perpetual and does not require attribution; those terms apply to that license and its stated scope. |
| Restrictions on tracks | Check whether the license bars redistribution, remixes, samples, music-only broadcasts, or use outside creator content. StreamBeats lists restrictions including standalone redistribution, music-platform reuploads, music-only radio, and derivatives. |
| Claims and documentation | Automated copyright systems can flag licensed music. Save the license text and track details, and know the publisher’s process for resolving mistaken claims. |
Why platform and archive rights matter
YouTube livestreams
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the content provider to hold the necessary music rights for livestream content worldwide and to maintain the required licenses for the stream territory. YouTube says: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”
Because a livestream may be archived, check that your permission also covers the saved broadcast and any clips or later uploads you plan to publish. Do not assume a license for live performance covers those copies.
Twitch streams
Twitch’s copyright guidance says streamers are responsible for ensuring they have the rights to livestream or store copyrighted material. A license may not cover the particular way music is used on Twitch. The Twitch DJ Program FAQ also says a music subscription or purchased download alone does not grant permission to broadcast a track on Twitch, and a rights agreement may not cover global streaming.

Can I use Spotify music on Twitch?
A Spotify subscription or downloaded track is not, by itself, a broadcast license. Twitch’s DJ Program FAQ specifically warns that a subscription or purchase does not grant permission to stream copyrighted music on Twitch. Use music only when the rights holder’s license covers Twitch broadcasts and any recordings you keep.
Does stream music stay in your VOD?
It depends on the platform’s recording behavior and the music license. A track allowed during a live performance may still be restricted in a VOD, clip, or later upload. Check the license for each saved format and review the platform’s current archive settings; do not infer archive permission from live permission alone.
A practical pre-stream checklist
- Choose the exact track. Identify the track and the publisher or library that controls its license.
- Read the current license. Confirm live use on your platform, territory, monetization, attribution, and license duration.
- Check saved versions. Verify permission for VODs, clips, highlights, and later uploads separately.
- Check restrictions. Look for limits on redistribution, edits, samples, music-only streams, or use outside the covered platform.
- Keep proof. Save the license and track information so you can follow the publisher’s process if an automated claim appears.
Keep a YouTube channel live with pre-recorded video
If your goal is a continuous YouTube channel rather than background music for a camera-led broadcast, StreamNeo is a separate option: it loops videos you upload from the cloud, keeping the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera. You still need music rights for the videos you upload.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
