How mapping and multiple floors work
Creating the first map
- Place the AutoWash dock on a stable, accessible floor area with a clear route in and out.
- Remove loose cables, clothing and other obstacles that could interfere with the first scan.
- Open the Roomba Home app and start the robot’s mapping run.
- Let the robot complete the run without carrying it to another room. Keep doors open to areas you want included.
- Review the generated room names and map boundaries in the app before assigning cleaning jobs.
iRobot states that mapping can take nine minutes. Treat that figure as an estimate from the manufacturer rather than a promise: a compact, uncluttered home may scan quickly, while a larger or complicated layout can take longer or require another run.

Storing maps for more than one level
The stated capacity is up to five maps. That makes the Max 775 suitable for homes with several levels or distinct layouts, provided each level can be mapped and the robot can be placed there with a practical way to start and finish a run. The dock does not need to be physically moved for the map limit itself, but the robot still needs a charging and recovery plan on any floor where it will operate.
Before sending it upstairs, confirm that the selected map is the intended level and that the robot has enough charge for the area. A robot cannot climb stairs, and the sources do not establish automatic stair transport or a second-dock arrangement. If it cannot find its dock after a floor run, you may need to carry it back and start a new job from the app.
Object recognition and room naming
PrecisionVision AI is intended to help the robot route around cords, shoes, furniture and pet messes. Room names are generated automatically, then can be checked in the app. Recognition is a navigation aid, not a guarantee that every small object will be detected. Pick up hazards, valuable items and anything that could wrap around a brush before routine cleaning.

Can it vacuum and mop at the same time?
Yes. iRobot lists four cleaning modes:

For mop-related modes, iRobot says the robot automatically avoids carpets and uses a protective roller cover. That design is intended to keep carpet dry while the roller is wet. It is still sensible to use no-mop zones or vacuum-only mode around delicate rugs, fringe and surfaces that the robot could misclassify.
What the mopping system adds
The PowerSpin roller mop turns at 200 RPM. SmartScrub adds a back-and-forth scrubbing movement with downward pressure, and the roller can extend toward edges. These are manufacturer-described features; the actual amount of soil removed depends on the stain, floor finish, water condition and number of passes.
Independent performance caveat
In a Tom’s Guide review published October 9, 2026, the reviewer reported slight residue after testing soy sauce, mayonnaise and mud. The same review said the side brushes could scatter debris away from the robot. Those observations describe one test setup, not a population-wide performance result. The reviewer did praise the roller cover’s carpet protection and the dock’s ability to reduce direct mop handling.

How the AutoWash dock works
The dock automates the repetitive parts of wet-roller care:

- It empties collected debris from the robot.
- It washes the roller with heated water, listed by iRobot as 167°F (75°C).
- It dries the roller with heat, listed as 122°F (50°C).
- It mixes StayClean Mopping Concentrate with clean water and refills the robot.
- It runs a dock self-cleaning cycle after roller washing to remove leftover debris.
iRobot markets up to three months of hands-free cleaning. Read that as reduced routine intervention, not a promise that the owner never touches the system. Water tanks still need attention, the debris supply can fill, the robot and dock need wiping, and consumables eventually need replacement.
What the dock does not eliminate
- Empty or inspect the debris system when the app or dock indicates it is full.
- Refill clean water and dispose of dirty water as required by the dock’s tank design.
- Rinse tanks so residue does not accumulate.
- Inspect the roller, side brushes and main brushes for hair or tangled fibers.
- Clean charging contacts when charging becomes intermittent.

Cleaning the robot safely
- Stop the robot and remove it from the dock before wiping or inspecting it.
- Wipe the bin and surrounding seals with a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid flooding electronic areas.
- Turn the robot over and clear hair from the main brush and side brushes.
- Wipe the charging contacts on both the robot and dock with a dry or lightly damp cloth, then let them dry.
- Rinse dock tanks with clean water, empty them as directed, and reinstall them securely.
- Check the filter at each bin service and replace it within the three-to-six-month interval, sooner if airflow is visibly restricted.
Use the owner’s manual for disassembly limits and drying instructions. Do not run a wet filter or wet electrical component back on the robot.

Which cleaning solution is safe?
The AutoWash system is designed to mix StayClean Mopping Concentrate with clean water. iRobot support identifies StayClean concentrate for Combo robots and warns that unapproved solutions can cause foaming, corrosion or malfunction.
Do not assume a product is safe because its label says it is suitable for hard floors. The available guidance does not establish a complete compatibility table for every third-party cleaner or every regional Max 775 variant. Follow the current instructions for your exact model and region, and do not add bleach, vinegar, dish soap, essential oils or other household mixtures unless iRobot explicitly approves them for that model.

- Stop adding the suspected solution.
- Empty and rinse the relevant water tank according to the manual.
- Run the dock’s cleaning cycle with the approved water-and-concentrate setup.
- Inspect the roller and tank for residue.
- Contact iRobot support if foaming, corrosion or error messages continue.
Filters, brushes and replacement-part compatibility
iRobot’s Max 700 Combo replenishment-kit listing explicitly includes the Max 775 among its compatible models and describes the parts as manufactured to iRobot specifications. That is the clearest compatibility statement available for replacement filters and brushes in the supplied material.

Verify the live listing, regional model number and kit contents before ordering. The available information does not establish that other Roomba docks, rollers or parts are interchangeable with the Max 775. A part that physically fits another Combo model should not be treated as approved compatibility without a model-specific listing.
Troubleshooting common results
The robot leaves a damp or dirty strip
- Check that the roller is installed correctly and not packed with hair.
- Confirm that the tank contains the approved solution mixture.
- Run the roller-washing cycle and inspect for residue.
- Use vacuum-first-then-mop if loose debris is being dragged into wet cleaning.
- For a stubborn stain, schedule another pass rather than assuming one cycle will remove it.
Debris is thrown to the side
Side-brush scattering was reported in the Tom’s Guide test. Clear large debris first, reduce clutter around corners and consider a slower, staged routine in areas where lightweight particles are being pushed away. This is a practical response to one reviewer’s observation, not a guaranteed fix for every surface.
The robot gets confused on a map
- Remove temporary obstacles and rerun mapping if the layout has changed substantially.
- Keep the dock in the same position used when the map was created.
- Check that the selected floor map matches the robot’s current level.
- Clean LiDAR and camera areas according to the manual if navigation errors persist.
The robot will not charge
Clean the charging contacts on the robot and dock, ensure the dock is on a level surface, and check that the approach path is clear. If charging remains intermittent after the contacts are clean and dry, use iRobot’s support process rather than substituting an unverified dock.

A US iRobot listing snapshot accessed October 13, 2026 showed a price of $999.99 and an estimated shipping time of approximately two weeks. Both figures are time-sensitive: inventory, promotions, taxes, region and delivery estimates can change, so check the live listing before purchase.
Who should consider the Max 775?
The Max 775 makes the most sense for a home that benefits from several saved maps, automatic carpet avoidance during mopping and a dock that handles roller washing and drying. It is less suitable if you want a completely maintenance-free appliance, need guaranteed stain removal in one pass, or require proven interchangeability with parts and docks from other models.
Before buying, confirm four things: your floor plan can be mapped within the five-map limit, the dock has room for its approach and tank service, StayClean concentrate is available for your region, and you are willing to perform the required bin, tank, contact, brush and filter care.
