Roku does not document a universal, standalone “Family Channel.” The relevant option is Kids & Family on The Roku Channel, which parents can allow in Kid & Teen Mode on supported Roku devices. That mode can limit access to participating apps, but it does not apply parental controls across every streaming service or viewing path.
What Roku means by family-friendly content
Roku’s support instructions refer to Kids & Family on The Roku Channel as an app or content option, not a separate channel available universally on every Roku device. The Roku Channel’s availability varies by country and device; Roku lists it on Roku devices, web, and mobile in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and on Roku devices in Mexico. Roku also documents access on compatible Samsung Smart TVs and Amazon Fire TV devices. Check Roku’s current availability and setup information for your location and equipment.

How Kid & Teen Mode works
Kid & Teen Mode lets a Roku account holder choose participating apps and set a rating limit for content controlled by Roku. A parent must install and approve apps before they can be included, and only participating apps appear as options. In this mode, Roku restricts search, browsing, guest mode, and voice functionality.

The rating limit applies to The Roku Channel and Roku subscriptions such as Howdy—not to other streaming apps. Until a parent chooses a limit, Roku says the mode allows only G, TV-G, and TV-Y content. Roku also cautions: “Roku does not control apps provided by other app providers, so cannot control the experience within those apps (including ads).” Set age and content controls inside each third-party service as well.

Set up Kids & Family access
- Create or check your Roku PIN. Use Roku’s account PIN instructions to create, change, or remove the PIN: Roku PIN help. This is distinct from the PIN used for Live TV controls on Roku TVs.
- Open Kid & Teen Mode. On the Roku device, go to Settings > Kid & Teen Mode.
- Choose app access. Open App access and allow The Roku Channel and/or Kids & Family on The Roku Channel if the option is available. Install any participating app first; not every app supports this mode.
- Choose a rating limit. Open Rating limits and select the maximum rating appropriate for your household. Until you set a limit, only G, TV-G, and TV-Y content is available in Kid & Teen Mode.
- Review payment settings in each app. Roku Pay subscriptions and purchases are restricted in Kid & Teen Mode. Purchases made directly through another provider using a different payment method may still be possible, so check that provider’s settings before allowing its app.

What to check before handing over the remote
- Confirm that The Roku Channel and Kid & Teen Mode are available on your device and in your country.
- Allow only the participating apps you want children to access, and set the rating limit rather than relying on the default.
- Configure parental controls separately in third-party services and review their payment settings.
- If your child can use a Roku TV’s Live TV input, configure that input’s controls separately; the Roku account PIN does not restrict antenna content.
