Yes—but the one Roku secret screen that Roku currently documents is a developer-mode activation screen, not a general-purpose vault of consumer features. The documented shortcut is intended to enable the Development Application Installer so developers can test and sideload Roku apps. It requires accepting developer terms, creating a device password, and rebooting the player.
Several other button combinations circulate online. Roku’s own release notes document two older service screens, but those instructions belong to historical software and server behavior. Current support for the broader collection of “hidden menus” is not established across today’s Roku players and Roku TVs.

The Roku shortcut that is currently documented
Roku’s developer instructions describe a specific remote sequence for activating Developer Mode. It works with either a physical Roku remote or the Roku remote app, so a replacement remote is not required for this procedure.
| Screen or claim | Button sequence or route | What the evidence establishes | Intended audience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Developer Mode activation | Home three times, Up twice, then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right | Currently documented by Roku for enabling the Development Application Installer | App developers and testers |
| Channel Version Info | Home three times, Up twice, then Left, Right, Left, Right, Left | Recorded in older Roku release notes; current availability is not established | Historical diagnostic or version checking |
| Former linking-screen workaround | Home five times, Fast Forward three times, Rewind twice | Recorded in older release notes in connection with former linking-screen behavior | Historical troubleshooting only |
| Other “secret menus” listed by third-party guides | Varies by guide, model and software | Roku’s current official material reviewed here does not verify a universal, supported set | Unofficial claims; use caution |
| Everyday personalization | Use the regular Settings menus | Roku’s support documentation directs users there for screensavers and similar options | Regular viewers |
The first row is the only sequence you should treat as a current Roku-documented activation method. It does not unlock paid channels, expose a consumer “super menu,” or turn a normal Roku into a different edition. It changes the device into a state where a developer can install and test an application.

What to prepare before activating Developer Mode
The activation process is a software workflow, but you should understand its purpose before starting. Roku describes Developer Mode in the context of app development and sideloading. If your goal is simply to change a screensaver, rearrange the home screen or adjust picture and audio settings, use ordinary Settings instead.
- A Roku device: The procedure is for a Roku streaming device or Roku TV that presents Roku’s developer-mode workflow. The reviewed official material does not promise identical behavior on every model or software release.
- A control method: Use the physical Roku remote or Roku’s remote app. The app can enter the button sequence, so purchasing another remote is unnecessary for this task.
- A place to record information: The screen shows the device URL during setup. Write it down accurately; you will need it for the developer installation workflow.
- A password you can remember: Roku asks you to create a device password as part of enabling developer tools.
- Time for a reboot: The device must restart to complete the change. Do not unplug it while the activation process is in progress.
How to unlock the documented hidden screen
- Open the Roku home screen. Press the Home button so the device is at its main Roku interface rather than inside an individual channel.
- Enter the developer-mode sequence. Press Home three times, Up twice, and then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. The first row of the table above shows the sequence in a compact form. Enter the presses deliberately; a missed or extra button can leave you on the ordinary home screen.
- Read the activation screen. Roku displays information for developer setup, including a device URL. Record that address exactly as shown.
- Enable the Development Application Installer. Follow the on-screen choice to turn on the installer. This is the component that permits a developer to load a test application onto the Roku.
- Read and accept the developer tools license agreement. The license step is part of Roku’s documented activation flow. Do not accept it casually if you do not intend to use developer features; the screen is not a consumer customization panel.
- Create the device password. Enter a password when prompted and keep it available for the developer workflow.
- Allow the Roku to reboot. The restart completes the activation. Wait until the device returns to its Roku interface before attempting any further action.
At the end of this process, Developer Mode is enabled and the Development Application Installer is available for sideloading and testing. Roku’s instructions do not describe this as a way to obtain hidden commercial channels or bypass normal account and channel controls.
What Developer Mode actually lets you do
It is for sideloading and testing an app
Developer Mode exists so an app creator can place a test build on a Roku device without publishing that build through the normal channel-distribution process. The activation screen therefore belongs to a developer workflow, even though any owner who follows the documented sequence may encounter it.
Only one sideloaded app is supported at a time
Roku states that only one app can be sideloaded at a time. If you load another sideloaded app, it replaces the previous one. Plan accordingly if you are testing multiple builds: keep your project files and test notes elsewhere, because the device is not a multi-app test library.

It is not a universal feature-unlock menu
The installer does not make every Roku feature visible, add subscription channels, or provide a supported route around account requirements. Treat the screen as a development tool. If you only wanted a different screensaver or a normal playback setting, leave Developer Mode alone and use the standard Roku menus.
Why older Roku button codes still appear online
Roku’s developer release notes contain two historical combinations that are often copied into lists of “secret screens.” Their presence in a release note proves that Roku documented them for a particular software or service context; it does not prove that they remain active on current devices.
Channel Version Info sequence
The older notes describe pressing Home three times, Up twice, then Left, Right, Left, Right, Left to reach a Channel Version Info screen. The notes are tied to older Roku software documentation. Current cross-device support for this screen is not established, so do not use it as a guaranteed diagnostic route on a modern player or Roku TV.

Former linking-screen workaround
The same historical material records Home five times, Fast Forward three times, then Rewind twice in connection with a former linking-screen workaround. That reference concerns old linking-screen and server behavior. It is not a current recommendation for fixing account-linking problems.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
These sequences are useful as historical context: they explain why older articles and videos may show menus that you cannot reproduce. They should not be presented as interchangeable with the currently documented Developer Mode activation.
How to judge unofficial hidden-menu lists
Recent third-party guides publish many additional combinations, sometimes labeling them as network, reboot, advertising, bitrate or factory screens. Roku’s current official sources reviewed for this topic do not establish that this larger set is supported, safe or uniform across current streaming players and Roku TVs.
Use three questions before trying any code:
- Does Roku currently document it? The Developer Mode sequence has a current first-party purpose. A code copied from a forum or an old video does not have the same status.
- What is the intended audience? Developer tools are for app testing. A service or diagnostic screen may have been created for an older support workflow, not for routine owner use.
- Is model and software coverage stated? Roku hardware and Roku TV implementations can differ. If a guide does not identify compatible models and software versions, assume the result may vary.
If a screen appears and contains a setting you do not recognize, do not change it merely to see what happens. Exit without saving and return to normal Roku menus. The lack of a current, device-specific support statement is itself a reason not to experiment.
Use normal Settings for personalization
Most owners who search for “secret Roku screens” actually want a visible customization option. Roku support directs users to the regular Settings area for screensaver changes. Open Settings from the Roku home interface and use the screensaver controls shown for your device.

- Breathtaking picture quality: Stunningly sharp 4K picture brings out rich detail in your entertainment with four times the resolution of HD. Watch as colors pop off your screen and enjoy lifelike clarity with Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
The available default and featured screensavers can vary by device and can change over time. If a screensaver shown in a video is missing from your menu, that does not necessarily mean a secret code is required; it may simply not be offered on that model or at that time.
The same principle applies to picture, audio, accessibility, network and account controls: use the labeled Settings entries intended for owners. Developer Mode is not a shortcut to those options.

The sequence does nothing
Confirm that the Roku is on the home screen, then repeat the exact order: Home three times, Up twice, followed by Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. Count each press rather than holding a button down. If you are using the remote app, make sure each tap is delivered before entering the next one.

Use Roku’s remote app, which Roku explicitly accepts for this sequence. The app is a control method for the documented task; buying a replacement remote is not a prerequisite.

You are unsure what to do with the device URL
Record the URL when the activation screen shows it. It identifies the Roku for the developer installation process. If you are not developing or testing an app, stop at this point rather than proceeding simply because the screen is available.
The device restarts
A reboot is an expected part of activation. Allow it to finish and wait for the Roku interface to return. Do not infer that a reboot means the device was reset to factory defaults; the documented flow calls for a restart to complete developer-mode setup.
A new sideloaded app replaces an older one
That behavior is expected under Roku’s one-app-at-a-time limitation. Keep previous test builds on your computer or other storage before loading a new one.

An old code from a video is unavailable
Do not keep trying random combinations or assume your Roku is defective. Historical release notes and unofficial guides may describe screens that are absent from your model or current software. Use the regular Settings and support routes for ordinary troubleshooting.
Which route should you choose?
| Your goal | Use this route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Install and test your own Roku app | Use the documented Developer Mode sequence and complete the installer, license and password steps | This is the purpose Roku assigns to the workflow |
| Change a screensaver | Open the standard Settings menus | Roku documents screensaver controls there, with availability varying by device and time |
| Check a version or diagnostic screen seen in an old article | Verify that the instruction applies to your exact model and current software before doing anything | The historical release notes do not establish present-day support |
| Fix an account, linking or playback problem | Use Roku’s current support instructions for that problem | The old linking-screen sequence was tied to former behavior and is not a current general fix |
| Explore a long list of “secret menus” | Do not alter unfamiliar settings; treat the list as unofficial | Current official material does not verify a universal set across Roku hardware |
The practical verdict
There is a real Roku secret screen, but its documented purpose is narrow: Developer Mode and the Development Application Installer. Enter Home three times, Up twice, then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right with a Roku remote or the Roku remote app, record the displayed device URL, enable the installer, accept the developer license, create a password and let the device reboot.
Older Roku notes explain why other button codes appear in search results, while newer third-party lists go beyond what Roku currently verifies. Use those claims cautiously, and use ordinary Settings for personalization. That approach gives you the supported developer workflow without treating unverified service menus as guaranteed features.
