The Roku 55-inch Pro Series OLED (55RAD5) combines 4K OLED picture quality with 120Hz gaming features at a lower listed price than some premium OLED rivals. Its clearest strengths are deep OLED blacks, HDMI 2.1, FreeSync Premium and support for up to 4K at 120fps. The trade-offs matter: independent testing found limited brightness, reflections can overwhelm the image in a bright room, and the built-in sound lacks low-end impact.
What the 55-inch Roku Pro Series OLED is
The base Pro Series OLED is model 55RAD5, with a 54.6-inch diagonal screen. Roku lists a 4K OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG support, plus Dolby Atmos audio support. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance ratings. See Roku’s product specifications.

Do not confuse it with the Pro Series LX, model 55RCD5. Roku positions the LX as the brighter model, with a wider color range and VRR up to 144Hz; the base 55RAD5 tops out at 120Hz. The 144Hz figure belongs to the LX, not this review’s TV.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsGaming: fast enough for current consoles and PCs
Roku lists HDMI 2.1, FreeSync Premium, a 120Hz refresh rate and gaming up to 4K/120fps for the 55RAD5. That makes it a strong feature set for a console or compatible gaming PC, but it is not the 144Hz model. Roku’s listed maximum is a capability claim; actual frame rates depend on the game, connected hardware and settings.

Picture quality and the brightness trade-off
TechRadar’s review praises the set’s OLED blacks but reports that brightness is a weakness, particularly in rooms with strong ambient light. In its HDR Filmmaker Mode tests, TechRadar measured 462 nits on a 10% window and 96 nits full-screen. In HDR Standard Mode, it measured 587 nits on a 10% window and 113 nits full-screen. These are results from that publication’s test setup, not Roku specifications or a guarantee for every unit.
TechRadar also found that reflections could overpower the screen in a bright room. If the TV will face a sunny window or sit in a room with substantial daytime light, this limitation may outweigh the OLED contrast advantage. In a darker or controllable room, the set’s deep blacks are a more natural fit.

Picture-mode comparisons need context. Tom’s Guide says the Roku lacks Filmmaker mode; for its own measurements it used Movie mode for SDR and HDR Dark with Display Brightness set to Brighter for HDR. Results from different modes and test methods should not be treated as directly interchangeable. Tom’s Guide’s comparative test preview explains its methodology.

Price and value: check the date, not just the discount
Roku lists the 55-inch base model at $999.99. TechRadar displayed an Amazon deal price of $699.99 on October 6, 2026; that was a dated offer and may no longer be available. Tom’s Guide reported the Roku at $999 and the LG C6 and Samsung S90H at $1,499 each when its comparison was published. Those are publication-time prices, not current price guarantees.

The value case is strongest when the 55RAD5 is actually priced below the alternatives you are considering and your room suits its brightness. Compare current prices for the same screen size, and weigh brightness and reflection handling alongside refresh rate and HDR format support rather than treating OLED alone as a complete quality ranking.
Sound, setup and mounting
TechRadar’s reviewer found the built-in audio limited in low-end response. Roku lists Dolby Atmos support, but format support does not by itself establish strong bass or replace a separate sound system. A soundbar is an optional way to address the reviewer’s audio criticism, not a requirement demonstrated by testing.

For wall mounting, Roku lists a 300 × 200 mm VESA pattern for the 55-inch model. Check the mount’s compatibility with the TV’s weight and mounting requirements before buying; the VESA pattern alone does not establish that every mount will fit.

Who should buy it—and who should look elsewhere
- Consider it if you want OLED contrast, Roku’s integrated TV platform and 4K/120Hz gaming features, and can control room light.
- Be cautious if the screen will be used in a bright room, where TechRadar reported that reflections and limited brightness can reduce visibility.
- Look at other options if you specifically want 144Hz VRR: Roku attributes that feature to the Pro Series LX, not the 55RAD5.
- Plan for external audio if strong bass is important, since TechRadar criticized the built-in sound’s low-end response.
TechRadar’s reviewer said they used the TV regularly for a couple of weeks with streaming shows, movies, music and PS5 games. The brightness measurements and subjective judgments above are that reviewer’s findings; individual results can vary with room, settings and content. For Roku’s launch positioning, Roku Vice President of Retail Strategy Chris Larson described the OLED and LX models as an effort to make OLED more accessible; that is the company’s stated rationale, not independent evidence of market-wide pricing. What Hi-Fi? reported Larson’s statement.
