What does Rogers’ purchase of MLSE mean?
It ends Kilmer Sports Inc.’s ownership in MLSE and makes Rogers the sole owner of the sports and entertainment company. The transaction announced in July 2026 is now complete; its earlier expected Q4 closing timetable has been superseded by Rogers’ October 1 announcement.

Yes. Rogers owns MLSE outright, and MLSE owns the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto FC (MLS) and Toronto Argonauts (CFL), among other assets. Its portfolio also includes development teams affiliated with the Maple Leafs and Raptors, Scotiabank Arena and a partnership with Live Nation, as listed in Rogers’ closing release.

MLSE’s company page also identifies the Toronto Marlies, Raptors 905, TFC II, Raptors Uprising Gaming Club, MLSE Foundation and Toronto sports facilities it operates or has invested in. Rogers’ purchase of Kilmer’s stake did not acquire the Toronto Blue Jays: they were already part of Rogers’ portfolio.
Who sold the shares, and how did Rogers reach 100%?
The seller in the 2026 transaction was Kilmer Sports Inc., not BCE. Rogers’ move to full ownership followed two separate purchases:

Rogers announced the first closing in its July 2, 2025 release. It announced the Kilmer agreement on July 6, 2026, when league approvals were still required. The October announcement confirms completion. The prices and ownership percentages above are the terms reported by Rogers for those respective transactions.
What happens next for MLSE and Rogers?
Rogers says it will create a business unit called Rogers Sports to bring together its sports, media and entertainment businesses, including MLSE and the Toronto Blue Jays. It has not yet described the final operating model. Rogers said that, in the interim, it is business as usual: Keith Pelley remains MLSE president and CEO, and Mark Shapiro remains Toronto Blue Jays president and CEO. Pelley is also taking on additional responsibility for Rogers Media, effective immediately, according to the closing announcement.

The July agreement announcement said Rogers intended to invest in fan experiences and expand affordable ticket options, giveaways and special experiences. Those are stated intentions, not confirmed changes: the announcement did not set a schedule, eligibility rules or prices. It also does not establish a change to ticket pricing, broadcasts, streaming availability or team operations.
Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri said the company was “proud to bring these beloved teams together with the rest of Rogers to deliver more for fans, audiences, and customers.” Executive Chair Edward Rogers described the responsibility to fans as personal. These remarks state Rogers’ position; they are not evidence of guaranteed championships, lower prices or other specific outcomes.
