Turn the robot off before cleaning, then follow its manual for removing parts and identifying safe cleaning methods. Clear hair from brushes and wheels, gently dust the filter, wipe sensors with a dry microfiber cloth, and clean the dock only as its instructions allow. A part that is washable on one model—or a dock with a removable, washable base—may not be safe to rinse on another.
Before you start
- Switch the robot off. Roborock recommends turning its vacuum off before maintenance; consult your own model’s manual for the exact shutdown and access steps. See Roborock’s maintenance guidance.
- Check the manual for each part. Find out how to remove brushes and filters, where sensors are located, whether the filter can be washed, how to clean charging contacts, and whether dock components can be removed or rinsed.
- Use gentle tools. A dry microfiber cloth and a soft-bristle brush are useful for routine dust and debris. Do not apply cleaning solution to sensor covers or use water on a component unless the manufacturer specifically permits it.
Clean the main and side brushes
Remove hair and debris
Remove the roller brush and side brush according to the manual. Pull away hair, thread, and other debris, then clear the brush cavity and guard before reinstalling the parts. Check the brush axles too: hair wrapped around an axle can interfere with movement even when the visible brush looks clear.

Inspect for wear
Look for damaged bristles, a worn rubber strip on the brush guard, or other damage. Replace a part when its condition calls for it, using one listed as compatible with your exact robot model. Roborock says its rollers should be replaced every 6 to 12 months, but that is Roborock’s guidance—not a universal interval for other models. Its article also recommends replacing guards when the rubber strip wears down and side brushes when damaged. See Roborock’s maintenance article.

- Remove and empty the dustbin as directed by the manual.
- Tap loose dust from the filter over a bin. Roborock’s maintenance article also suggests a soft-bristle brush for particles that remain.
- Check the manual before washing. Wash the filter only if that exact model’s instructions say it is washable; if you wash an approved filter, let it dry completely before reinstalling it.
Filter instructions are model-specific. For example, Roborock’s Q7 Max+ product page describes that model’s E11-rated filter as washable; that does not establish that filters in other Roborock models—or other brands—can be rinsed. See the Roborock Q7 Max+ product page.

Wipe the sensors gently
Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to wipe sensor surfaces gently. Roborock cautions that abrasive cleaners can damage sensor coverings and advises against cleaning solutions. Sensor locations vary, so use the manual to find them rather than assuming every robot has sensors in the same places. Roborock notes that its sensors are on the sides and bottom of the machine; see its sensor and maintenance guidance.
Check wheels and charging contacts
Remove hair and thread from the wheels and axles, then check that the wheels turn freely. Keep charging contacts free of grime, using the cleaning method specified in your model’s manual. Roborock’s troubleshooting guidance says dirty contacts can cause charging problems and recommends wiping them with a dry cloth. Because that page is in German and concerns Roborock, check your own manufacturer’s instructions rather than applying its advice automatically to another brand. See Roborock’s troubleshooting page.

Clean the dock according to its design
Wipe accessible dust and debris from the dock and its charging surfaces using the method in the manual. Roborock recommends keeping its charging dock in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not assume the dock or its parts are safe to rinse: construction and cleaning instructions differ by model.
For example, Roborock describes a detachable, washable base on the Qrevo Slim. That feature applies to that product, not to every robot-vacuum dock. Check the instructions for your dock before removing components or using water. See the Roborock Qrevo Slim product page.

How often to clean or replace parts
Use the schedule in your model’s manual or app, including any remaining-part-life indicators. Roborock’s older general guidance gives a weekly upkeep routine for the S5 as an example. Another Roborock maintenance article cites replacing filters every two months and rollers every 6 to 12 months; those are manufacturer recommendations, not universal schedules. Cleaning needs and replacement timing depend on the model and the part’s condition. See Roborock’s general maintenance guidance and its additional maintenance guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing replacement brushes or filters
Replace a brush or filter when the manual, app, or inspection indicates it is due. Before ordering, match the replacement to the robot’s exact model; parts that look similar may not be compatible. Confirm whether a replacement filter is washable from that model’s instructions rather than inferring it from another product’s specifications.
