Short answer: The Dreame L20 Ultra robot vacuum is the better cleaner for mixed floors, carpet, pets and homes where cables or toys are often left on the floor. Its higher suction rating, taller mop lift, edge-reaching mop and larger dock tanks give it more margin in difficult rooms. The Roborock Q Revo robot vacuum is the smarter buy for mostly hardwood floors, a smaller apartment, a tighter budget or anyone who values a more polished app.
This is a trade-off rather than a universal winner. Both robots map with LiDAR, wash their mop pads, empty dust automatically and dry the pads at the dock. The differences show up when carpet pickup, sticky stains, wall edges, obstacle recognition, unattended runtime and dock size matter.

Suction and carpet pickup
Dreame rates the L20 Ultra at 7,000Pa, while Roborock rates the base Q Revo at 5,500Pa. Pascal figures are not a direct measurement of cleaning in every home, but the difference matters when a robot must pull grit from carpet fibers, lift pet hair and recover debris in a single pass.
The Home Picker’s eight-week test in a 1,600-square-foot mixed-floor home found a clear carpet advantage for Dreame: a single pass over medium-pile carpet recovered 96% of the baking soda used in the test, compared with 89% for Q Revo. That was a publisher-run comparison rather than a manufacturer laboratory result. On hardwood, both machines delivered near-perfect pickup, so the suction gap is less important when most of your rooms are hard flooring.

- 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 - From kitchen splashes and cereal crumbs to pet paw prints and everyday footprints, the advanced dual mop system tackles daily messes with ease while adjusting water flow for cleaner, fresher floors throughout your home
- 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝟯.𝟴 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Powered by smart obstacle detection, the robot precisely avoids shoes, toys, and furniture legs while gliding smoothly under beds and sofas to clean hidden dust in low-clearance spaces for more complete coverage
For a home with area rugs, carpeted bedrooms or pets that shed, the extra suction is useful insurance. It does not mean Q Revo cannot clean carpet; it means you are more likely to need a second pass or a higher setting when debris is deeply embedded.
Mop lift, edge cleaning and dried stains
The L20 Ultra raises its mop pads up to 10.5mm. Q Revo’s lift is listed as 7mm in the independent comparison. A taller lift reduces the chance that a wet pad will drag across a low rug when the robot transitions between rooms, although rug thickness, pad moisture and the robot’s route still matter.

Dreame also adds MopExtend, which moves the mop outward to reach closer to walls and furniture legs. In The Home Picker’s mop-mode test, the L20 Ultra left wall edges about 30% cleaner than Q Revo. The same comparison reported that Dreame removed approximately 85% of dried stains, while Roborock left faint shadows on about 20% of the tested spots. Those figures describe that publisher’s test setup, cleaning solution and floor samples; they are not universal laboratory ratings.
Q Revo still mops effectively on routine dust and footprints, especially across open hardwood. The decision turns on how often you face dried spills, tight edges and transitions between rugs and hard floors. If those jobs are common, the L20 Ultra’s hardware advantage is easier to justify.
Obstacle avoidance around clutter and pets
Both robots use LiDAR to build maps, but their object-recognition approaches differ. Q Revo uses a reactive 3D structured-light system that the comparison says handles larger obstacles well. The L20 Ultra combines an AI-powered RGB camera with 3D sensing and was more reliable at identifying small objects such as shoes, charging cables and pet toys.

- 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗶𝗻-𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Designed for ultimate convenience, the advanced docking station automatically empties dust into a sealed 2.7L bag that lasts 7–9 weeks, refills the water with a 4L tank for 3552 sqft coverage, thoroughly washes mopping pads and dries them, ensuring the robot vacuum and mop always ready for the next cleaning. To maintain optimal operation, the dirty water tank should be cleaned regularly.
- 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: The upgraded asymmetrical side brush is SGS-certified for a 0% hair tangling rate, while the full-rubber spiral main brush effectively prevents hair and debris from wrapping around it, perfect for homes with pets or hair. Just say goodbye to hair tangles with the innovative robot vacuum.
- 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Equipped with the Reactive Tech system, the QV 35A robot vacuum detects and avoids obstacles like furniture, cords, and shoes with precision. It also intelligently identifies no-go zones, such as stairs or tight spaces, to prevent getting stuck and ensure uninterrupted cleaning.
- 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝟭𝟬𝗺𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁: Elevate the floor care and scrub away tough stains with two 200RPM high-speed rotating mopping pads. The 30 adjustable water levels help the robot vacuum cleaner adapt to all floor types, from delicate hardwoods to tiles. The 10mm lift feature allows it to seamlessly transition to low-pile carpets, ensuring no wet messes and complete cleaning versatility.
Neither system makes floor preparation unnecessary. A cable can move after the robot has mapped a room, a dark object can be difficult for an optical sensor, and a pet can place a new obstacle directly in the robot’s path. Homes with children, pets or frequent floor clutter gain more from Dreame’s extra recognition, but a quick pickup before a scheduled run remains the safest practice for either model.

Dock capacity and unattended maintenance
Water capacity
The L20 Ultra dock holds 4.5L of clean water and 4L of dirty water in the comparison. Q Revo is listed with 3.5L clean and 3.5L dirty tanks. The additional litre of clean water on Dreame can reduce refills during large mopping jobs, while the larger dirty tank gives more room for recovered water before emptying.
Dreame states that the robot can clean up to 3,229 square feet on one full base-station fill in its laboratory test. Treat that as a ceiling under the stated lab conditions, not a promise for every floor plan: carpet, high suction, repeated pad washing, room layout and furniture all change consumption. Q Revo’s cited specifications do not provide an equivalent coverage figure.
Pad washing, drying and cleaning solution
Both docks automatically wash the mop pads, empty collected dust and dry the pads with heated air according to the comparison. Roborock’s specification lists room-temperature mop washing and 45-degree mop drying. Dreame specifies two-hour warm-air drying and automatic cleaning-solution dosing.
Dreame describes the wash cycle this way: “L20 Ultra thoroughly washes its mops in the base station any time they get too dirty and again when its cleaning task is complete.” Automatic washing is valuable only when the base itself is maintained. Empty the dirty-water tank, rinse residue from the wash area and keep the drying vents unobstructed so odours do not build up.

- 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗔𝗿𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗽𝘀: Extendable mop arm reaches hidden corners and around furniture legs. 200 RPM spinning pads mimic hand-mopping to remove stubborn stains, while a 10mm lift avoids wetting low-pile carpets. Customize 30-level water flow via the app for all floor types. You can freely select different mopping and vacuuming modes on the app to clean your home.
- 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵: Structured light sensors detect and navigate around cables, toys, and furniture legs in real time. Suggests "No-Go Zones" for tricky areas like under chairs to prevent getting stuck—effortless cleaning in cluttered spaces.
Dust handling and the 75-day claim
Roborock lists a 350ml robot dustbin, while Dreame promotes a claimed 75-day dust-emptying interval. Dreame says that interval is based on laboratory calculations, so real frequency depends on dust levels, pets, floor area and how often the robot runs. A home with multiple shedding animals may fill the bag much sooner. Check the dock and app alerts rather than treating either number as a calendar guarantee.
Navigation, mapping and app usability
LiDAR mapping gives both models a structured view of rooms and supports room-by-room schedules. Dreame calls its navigation Pathfinder; Q Revo’s specification identifies LiDAR navigation. In practice, both are suited to repeatable cleaning of named rooms once the initial map is complete.
The software distinction is more noticeable day to day. The Home Picker describes Roborock’s app as more responsive and feature-rich, while Dreamehome is improving but less polished. That assessment concerns the versions tested in August 2026; app layouts, firmware and supported controls can change. If you frequently adjust room sequences, suction levels, mop behavior or schedules, Roborock’s software advantage may outweigh a modest cleaning difference on hard floors.
Dreame’s larger dock and extra water capacity require more deliberate placement. Leave enough clearance to remove both tanks, open the dust compartment and access the wash area. Q Revo’s more compact dock is easier to fit in a small apartment or a narrow utility zone, provided the robot has a clear approach path.

The dated comparison listed Q Revo at $749 and L20 Ultra at $899, a $150 difference at that time. Those figures are historical August 2026 comparison prices, not a current price guarantee. Promotions, bundles, regional taxes, replacement-part availability and different sub-models can change the gap.

Use the price difference as a value question rather than a simple discount. On mostly hardwood, both robots achieved near-perfect pickup in the cited test, so paying more for L20 Ultra may bring limited visible benefit. On carpet, rugs, cluttered floors or large mopping areas, the higher suction, taller lift, edge reach, obstacle recognition and larger tanks address specific problems that can otherwise require extra passes and supervision.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which model fits your home?
Choose Dreame L20 Ultra for mixed floors, rugs and carpet
Select the L20 Ultra when your cleaning map includes a meaningful amount of medium- or high-traffic carpet, several rugs or frequent transitions between hard and soft flooring. Its 7,000Pa rating and the stronger carpet result in the cited test provide more margin for grit and hair. The 10.5mm lift and MopExtend system also suit rooms where rugs meet walls and furniture.
Choose Dreame for pets and everyday clutter
If shoes, cables and toys regularly appear on the floor, the L20 Ultra’s RGB-camera and 3D-sensing combination is the safer choice of these two. It still cannot guarantee that every small or moving object will be recognized, so keep hazardous cords and pet accidents out of the robot’s path before a run.

Choose Q Revo for mostly hardwood and a tighter budget
Q Revo is the value choice when hard flooring dominates and carpet performance is secondary. The independent comparison found near-perfect hardwood pickup for both machines, while Q Revo carried the lower dated price. Its smaller dock is also easier to accommodate in a compact apartment.
Choose Q Revo when app polish matters most
People who adjust schedules, room order and cleaning modes often will notice the app difference more than a small change in pickup on smooth floors. The comparison found Roborock’s app more responsive and feature-rich. Confirm that the current regional app supports the controls you need, since software changes over time.

(roborock was the first in the robot vacuum industry to mass-produce a product featuring a liftable chassis system with three-wheel control, officially launching this technology in Q3 2024.)
Choose Dreame for a large home and longer unattended mopping
The L20 Ultra’s 4.5L clean-water and 4L dirty-water capacities, automatic solution dosing and stated laboratory coverage of up to 3,229 square feet make it better suited to long mopping sessions between dock visits. The dock occupies more space, so measure the location before committing.
Unsealed hardwood needs a separate decision
Moisture can damage unsealed or moisture-sensitive wood. The comparison specifically flags this concern. Check your flooring manufacturer’s care instructions before enabling automated mopping. If moisture is not approved, use vacuum-only runs and create no-mop zones around the affected rooms. A taller mop lift does not make an incompatible floor safe.
What the eight-week comparison actually tested
The Home Picker ran both robots for eight weeks in a 1,600-square-foot home with mixed flooring. It reported 96% versus 89% single-pass baking-soda recovery on medium-pile carpet, near-perfect pickup for both on hardwood, about 30% cleaner wall edges for Dreame in mop mode and approximately 85% removal of dried stains for Dreame versus faint shadows on about 20% of Roborock’s test spots.
Those results are useful for understanding direction and scale, but they are not a controlled certification. Room layout, dust load, cleaning settings, pad condition, detergent, stain age and firmware can all change outcomes. Manufacturer suction, tank and coverage figures likewise come from product documentation or stated laboratory conditions. Keep those two evidence types separate when deciding how much confidence to place in a number.
Setup and maintenance practices that affect either robot
- Prepare the floor. Pick up cables, socks, toys and pet bowls before the first mapping run and before scheduled cleaning. This reduces tangles even when obstacle avoidance is enabled.
- Map one level at a time. Keep doors open to rooms you want included, remove temporary obstacles and let the robot complete a full navigation pass before fine-tuning room schedules.
- Protect sensitive flooring. Mark no-mop areas wherever the flooring manufacturer prohibits moisture. Use vacuum-only cleaning in those zones.
- Fill and seat the tanks correctly. Use the clean-water tank for approved water and check that the dirty-water tank is empty and fully seated. Dreame owners should also verify that the solution reservoir is installed if automatic dosing is enabled.
- Let pads dry completely. Do not block the dock’s drying outlets. If a damp smell appears, stop the next run, empty the dirty tank and clean the wash area and pad surfaces.
- Inspect after pet-heavy runs. Hair and debris can collect around brushes, wheels, sensors and the dock filter. Remove buildup before it affects navigation or suction.
- Use the app as a status tool. Check task history, tank alerts and consumable warnings rather than relying on advertised day or area intervals. Actual usage is the best guide for your replacement and emptying schedule.
Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
- Expecting one pass to solve every carpet. The cited test shows a meaningful difference, not perfect recovery. Schedule a second pass or raise the cleaning intensity for high-traffic carpet.
- Assuming mop lift makes every rug safe. A 7mm or 10.5mm lift may not clear a thick or curled rug. Use a no-mop zone if the pad still contacts the fabric.
- Ignoring dock access. A larger tank is useful only if you can remove it easily. Measure doorways, shelves and the service area before installation.
- Treating obstacle avoidance as a guarantee. Small cables and newly moved objects can still be missed. Floor preparation remains essential.
- Using moisture on unsealed wood. Follow the flooring maker’s instructions and disable mopping where moisture is not approved.
- Comparing prices without checking the exact package. Confirm model suffix, included consumables, warranty region and current firmware support; the $749 and $899 figures are dated comparison prices.
Final decision
Buy the Dreame L20 Ultra when cleaning performance and unattended capacity come first: mixed flooring, carpet, pets, clutter, dried spills, wall edges or a large mopping area all favor its hardware. Buy the Roborock Q Revo when most floors are hardwood, the dock must be compact, the budget is tighter or app usability is your top priority. Both can be effective daily cleaners, but the right choice depends on whether your home benefits more from Dreame’s extra cleaning margin or Roborock’s value and software polish.
