Reform UK published a video on 2 October 2026 showing Robert Jenrick confronting a man in Brixton over a bottle of Dr Pepper associated with Greggs. Jenrick accused him of taking it; the man denied stealing it and handed it back. The available reporting establishes the exchange, but not whether the drink was stolen or whether the clip caused wider political damage.
What happened in the Brixton video?
In the video, Jenrick approaches a man holding a bottle of Dr Pepper and says: “I think you just nicked that, didn’t you? Well, we just watched you take it. Do you wanna give it back?” The Independent reports that the man denied stealing the drink, then handed it over. Asked why he thought he was “above the law,” he replied, “Because they always give us drinks.” Jenrick then returned the bottle to a Greggs fridge, according to the report.
The encounter was published by Reform UK on 2 October 2026. The available accounts do not establish what happened before filming, so the video and Jenrick’s accusation alone do not settle whether a theft occurred. The Independent’s account of the exchange gives the man’s reported denial; Reform UK’s post shows how the party presented the footage.
How did Jenrick and Reform UK frame the clip?
Jenrick cast the encounter as a response to shoplifting and a broader failure to enforce the law. In the post accompanying the video, he wrote: “Shoplifters are running riot. Parts of the country are feral. If nobody else will confront them, I will.” Reform UK described the video as highlighting shoplifting on high streets.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
LBC reports that Jenrick also argued that theft pushes up costs for other customers. That is his stated argument, not a measured finding about the price effect of this particular incident. The party’s framing likewise expresses its political message; it does not independently verify the allegation against the man. Reform UK’s post is the primary source for its presentation of the clip.
Did the video backfire?
“Backfire” is not established by the available reporting. The incident has an evident tension: Jenrick presented the footage as a forceful stand against lawbreaking, while the man denied the accusation and offered an explanation for having the drink. A viewer may see that contrast as undermining Jenrick’s message, but that is an interpretation of the exchange, not proof of a broader public verdict.

The reviewed accounts do not demonstrate representative public criticism or measurable political harm to Jenrick or Reform UK from this video. No incident-specific statistic measuring public reaction is identified. A view count, on its own, would not show whether viewers approved or disapproved. The evidence supports describing the clip and the competing accounts, not stating as fact that it damaged the party.
