The deal combines new investment with a secondary sale that lets long-standing employees sell some of their shares. One detail in the headline version of this story is not confirmed: RobCo’s announcement does not state a transaction size. The “$40 million” figure is therefore unverified, and so is any split between fresh company capital and employee sales.
What RobCo announced
In its October 5 release, RobCo described a transaction that brings in new investment and gives employees liquidity. It said the valuation had doubled in nine months. The company named existing investors taking part (Sequoia, Lightspeed, Greenfield, Kindred, Lingotto and Promus Ventures) and two new ones, Cherry Ventures and European Tech Collective.

The release gave no dollar amount for the transaction, no primary-versus-secondary breakdown, and no valuation methodology.
“A billion-dollar valuation is an incredible milestone, but we’re much more excited about what comes next: bringing the next generation of autonomous industrial robotics to factory floors.” — Roman Hölzl, co-founder and CEO of RobCo, in the company’s October 5, 2026 announcement.

How much did RobCo raise?
Two different events are easy to blur:
| Event | Date | Amount | Valuation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Series C, co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Lingotto Innovation | January 29, 2026 | $100 million (company-announced) | Not stated in the release |
| New investment plus employee secondary sale | October 5, 2026 | Not stated | More than $1 billion (company statement) |
The roughly $500 million January valuation is an inference. RobCo’s October statement that the valuation doubled in nine months implies a figure near half of $1 billion, but the January release never named one. Treat “about $500 million” as approximate.
Why “shares sold” is not the same as “money raised”
In a secondary sale, existing shareholders, here employees, sell stock to investors. The cash goes to the sellers, not to the company. Only the new-investment portion adds capital to RobCo’s balance sheet, and RobCo did not quantify it. So even if a headline total like $40 million is later confirmed, it would not necessarily mean $40 million of new funding. Private valuations like this one are also negotiated prices, not public-market quotes.

What RobCo makes
RobCo builds industrial robots and software for manufacturing. It calls its offering an Autonomous Manufacturing Platform, which combines modular hardware with a “Physical AI” software stack covering perception, motion planning and learning. Its January announcement lists machine tending, palletizing, dispensing and welding as target workflows. It says robots can pick up task-specific skills through demonstration and self-learning. It sells through recurring robotics-as-a-service (RaaS). These are company descriptions, not independently measured performance.
On scale, TUM MIRMI-AIM reported in February 2026, citing company information, that RobCo produces more than 5,000 robot arms per year at its Munich site. That is a company-supplied figure, not an audited one.

Alfie is RobCo’s bimanual (two-armed) system. The company’s April 2026 announcement aimed it at tasks involving variability, precision assembly, sensitive material handling and intralogistics such as picking, kitting and palletizing. At that point it was in final development, with first customer deployments planned for later in 2026. The October release sets a planned commercial launch for March 4, 2027. Both are roadmap statements, not completed milestones.
