The sales result is company-wide—not an R2-only sales figure.
What Rivian’s Q3 record does—and doesn’t—say about R2 sales
Rivian’s Q3 2026 results covered all its vehicles, not just the R2. The company reported 19,751 vehicles produced and 19,248 delivered. RivianTrackr described the delivery total as the company’s highest quarterly result, up 58% from Q2.

The company’s reported totals do not give an R2-only delivery count, so they cannot show how many of those Q3 deliveries came from the R2 launch. Production and deliveries are separate measures: vehicles produced in a quarter need not be delivered in that same quarter.

After Q3, it reaffirmed that 2026 guidance. Those figures indicate strong company-wide activity and an ongoing ramp, but they are not a forecast or sales tally for the R2 alone.

Was the R2 recalled again?
A late-September 2026 report by Rivian Wave said a camera-related recall covered 98,828 vehicles, including the 2027 R2. That report is not enough to confirm that a particular R2 is subject to a recall. The campaign number, affected VIN range, defect consequence, remedy, and owner-notification date are not established in the report details available here.
How to check whether your R2 is included
- Find the vehicle identification number (VIN) on your vehicle or in its documents.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s official recall lookup, and check Rivian’s owner communications for notices tied to your vehicle.
- If the lookup or Rivian identifies an open campaign, follow the instructions from Rivian or an authorized service provider. Ask Rivian directly if the report and your vehicle’s status do not match.
A recall report about a model year or vehicle family is not a substitute for a VIN-level check. Until the official campaign details are clear, do not assume that every 2027 R2 is affected—or that no R2 is affected.

How this report differs from earlier Rivian recalls
NHTSA acknowledged two earlier 2026 campaigns involving R1 vehicles. Neither campaign described below covered the R2; they are separate from the late-September camera report.

Those official campaigns show why it matters to distinguish a confirmed NHTSA notice from an early report: the model years, affected vehicles, component, and remedy are campaign-specific. They do not establish the scope or remedy of the reported camera campaign.

Should a pending recall report stop you from considering an R2?
The Q3 delivery record and the recall report answer different questions. The record shows Rivian delivered more vehicles overall than in any earlier quarter, while the report raises a safety question whose vehicle-level scope still needs confirmation. Neither fact alone establishes the R2’s reliability, and the aggregate delivery figures do not show R2 demand by itself.
If you are deciding whether to buy, use the VIN lookup and Rivian’s current owner or service information for any vehicle already assigned to you. For a vehicle you have not yet received, ask Rivian to confirm its recall status and whether any applicable repair must be completed before delivery. A recall, if confirmed for a specific VIN, is handled through the campaign’s stated remedy; the reported count alone cannot tell a buyer whether a particular vehicle needs service.
