If you’re choosing one Risk of Rain 2 expansion first, Survivors of the Void is the stronger default for players who want Railgunner’s precision combat, Void Fiend’s corruption mechanic, and a Void-centered set of items, enemies, and stages. Choose Seekers of the Storm instead if its survivors and progression appeal more: Seeker’s mix of close-range damage, healing, and ally revival; returning Chef; The False Son; and the Colossus route. Both require the base game, and the better deal depends on the current price where you play.
What’s different between the two expansions?
Both add survivors, items, enemies, and stages, but they have distinct themes and playable characters. Survivors of the Void released March 1, 2022; Seekers of the Storm followed on August 27, 2024. The package also centers on corrupted items and Void enemies, with new environments and access to The Void.

Pick Seekers of the Storm for its survivors and Colossus progression
Seeker is the most direct fit if you want a character that can heal and revive allies as well as deal close-range damage. Chef and The False Son expand the roster in different ways, while the new stages and Colossus path provide the expansion’s progression focus.

Use Steam reviews as a dated snapshot, not a verdict
When accessed on October 11, 2026, Steam showed Survivors of the Void with 87% positive English-language reviews out of 4,213 overall and 96% out of 26 recent reviews. Seekers of the Storm showed 51% positive English-language reviews out of 9,572 overall and 81% out of 101 recent reviews. These are storefront ratings at that date, not independent measures of quality; the recent-review samples are especially small for Survivors of the Void. How do price and sales affect the choice?
At the US Steam listings accessed October 11, 2026, Seekers of the Storm was $14.99, while Survivors of the Void was on a 50% discount: $7.49 instead of its listed $14.99 price, with the offer displayed as ending October 22. Steam also showed a $49.47 bundle containing the base game and both expansions. What should co-op players check?
Each expansion requires the Risk of Rain 2 base game on Steam. According to both Steam listings, one player owning an expansion enables its monsters, stages, and items to appear for the whole lobby. That does not give nonowners the full expansion: they cannot select its new survivors or permanently unlock its content. Before a group buys anything, check which players already own which DLC; one owner may be enough for the group to encounter some of its content, but not to use or unlock everything.

For a first or single expansion purchase without a specific character preference, Survivors of the Void is the more defensible default: it has a focused Void-themed package and, in the October 11, 2026 Steam snapshot, stronger accumulated English-language review sentiment. If you’re drawn to Seeker, Chef, The False Son, or the Colossus route, Seekers of the Storm is the better fit. Recheck current prices and your co-op group’s ownership before paying.
