Higher new-iPhone prices may make renewed phones more appealing to Indian buyers, but a low price is not enough to establish value. In a 30 September 2026 interview with MySmartPrice, ControlZ head Yug Bhatia estimated that iPhone prices had risen by around 25% over the preceding six to seven months. That is his estimate, not an independently measured India-wide price index. For a buyer, the more useful question is whether a particular phone’s condition, battery, repair history, warranty and seller support justify its total cost.
Why rising iPhone prices matter to renewed-phone buyers
Bhatia’s argument is that when new devices cost more, pre-owned and refurbished phones can offer access to premium hardware at a lower initial outlay. That explains the opportunity he sees; it does not show that every renewed phone is a bargain or that prices have changed by the same amount across India.

He also said, “If my phone is in a good condition, why would I sell it?” That is his view of why devices entering the second-hand market may have wear or need work, not a universal rule about why people sell phones. Treat a renewed device as an individual product with a history to verify, rather than assuming it is equivalent to a new one.
What ControlZ says it does to renewed devices
Bhatia said ControlZ sources phones through partners, including e-commerce companies, large-format retailers and smaller dealers, rather than buying directly from individual consumers. The company renews devices at its own facility and sells through retail partners and its website.

The process figures below are claims about ControlZ’s own operations, attributed to Bhatia in the MySmartPrice interview; they are not independently audited industry rates.
- Incoming issues: Bhatia said around 80% of devices received have some issue, including battery, display or camera problems.
- Battery: He said ControlZ generally replaces batteries below 90% health and keeps batteries above that threshold.
- Display: He described repairing some display damage rather than replacing the panel, and said around 10–15% of displays require replacement.
- Camera: He said the company can reuse around 95% of camera modules.
- Replacement parts and tests: The interview says ControlZ uses equivalent-quality alternative components when replacements are needed, rather than Apple-certified components. Bhatia described in-house tests of display brightness, contrast and RGB performance.
These details are useful questions to put to any seller, but they do not establish that another refurbisher follows the same process—or that a particular unit has passed a specific test. Ask what was done to the exact phone being offered and get the answer in writing.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Check the actual offer, not just the model or discount
Before comparing prices, pin down which phone is being sold and what condition it is in. “Like new” is not a universal grading standard, and the available sources establish no common grading system or independent test of renewed devices. Compare the written listing and policies across every offer.

- Model and storage: Confirm the exact iPhone model and storage capacity; a model name alone is not a complete comparison.
- Condition: Look for separate disclosure of cosmetic wear and functional faults. Ask whether the phone has been repaired and which components were replaced.
- Battery: Ask what battery health is guaranteed, whether the battery is original or replaced, and what the seller will do if it falls short of the stated condition.
- Price: Compare the total amount payable for that exact model, storage and condition, not only a headline discount.
- Warranty: Read the duration, exclusions, claim process and service route. Confirm whether accidental damage, battery deterioration or particular components are excluded.
- Returns and documentation: Check the return window and what records accompany the phone. Identify the seller responsible for a return or warranty claim.
- Support reach: Verify where service is available and how to contact support if a fault appears.
Online buyers may not be able to inspect a device before paying, which makes precise condition disclosures, written warranty terms and a clear return route especially important. An unclear seller or device history can leave provenance and after-sales support uncertain.

ControlZ’s coverage and service claims need product-level checking
Bhatia told MySmartPrice that ControlZ had more than 1,300 retail partners and around 700 service centres across 50 cities. Those are figures attributed to him in the interview, not independently verified service-availability figures for every buyer or product.
Warranty duration also depends on the product line. ControlZ’s official homepage, checked on 5 October 2026, advertises 12 months for Premium Renewed devices and seven days for Saver Series devices. The interview reports a 12-month warranty for the phones discussed. These statements should not be read as one blanket promise for all listings: confirm the specific product page, written terms, exclusions and return policy before purchase.

What the interview’s iPhone examples can—and cannot—tell you
Bhatia said more than 90% of ControlZ’s business comes from iPhones and highlighted the iPhone 13, 14 and 15 as a useful middle range for the company’s supply-demand balance. His interview-era examples were:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Model | Interview-era example price |
|---|---|
| iPhone 12 | Around ₹20,000–₹21,000 |
| iPhone 13 | Around ₹25,000 |
| iPhone 15 | Around ₹50,000 |
| iPhone 15 Pro | Around ₹70,000 |
These are examples Bhatia gave in an interview published 30 September 2026, not live quotes, guaranteed offers or prices for every storage capacity and condition. Availability and listing details can change quickly, so compare current offers against the exact device specification and policies.
Best Value
- Fluid 120Hz Display: Features a large 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for smooth scrolling and added durability.
How to make the decision
- Start with the exact listing. Record its model, storage, condition grade or description, total price and seller identity.
- Resolve the device-history questions. Ask for battery health, whether the battery is original or replaced, and a written account of repairs or replacement components.
- Read the protections before paying. Check warranty duration and exclusions, return deadlines, documentation requirements and how to reach service.
- Compare like with like. Weigh price against condition, battery disclosure, repair transparency and support—not against a new-phone retail price alone.
- Walk away if key terms stay vague. If the seller cannot identify the device condition, responsible party or route for a fault, the discount does not remove that uncertainty.
Bhatia said, “If you compare it with the new phone today at a retail counter, 80% would take this phone if the trust issue is solved.” That is a hypothetical opinion, not survey evidence. The buyer’s practical task is to test that trust claim against the specific phone and the seller’s written commitments.
