Ripple can win institutional business on Wall Street without those clients buying XRP. An October 10, 2026 report from Seoul Economic Daily says Ripple Prime is servicing leveraged ETF managers and institutional funds, but the reported services—including trade execution, clearing, financing and derivatives settlement—do not inherently require the token. Ripple has not disclosed how much XRP, if any, the reported leveraged ETF business uses.
What Ripple Prime’s reported expansion involves
Seoul Economic Daily reported on October 10, 2026, that Ripple Prime had entered the U.S. equity derivatives market by facilitating total-return-swap contracts connected to leveraged ETFs. In the arrangement described by the newspaper, an asset manager receives exposure to share-price movements while Ripple Prime settles gains and losses and collects financing fees. The report also says Ripple broadened its relationship with Brevan Howard, providing trade execution, clearing and financing services to funds managed by the firm.

The newspaper presents these developments as part of Ripple’s expansion into institutional finance following its October 2025 acquisition of Hidden Road and the business’s reorganization as Ripple Prime. The details of the new servicing arrangements and the Brevan Howard relationship are attributable to that report; the sources available here do not independently confirm those specific arrangements. Even if the reported activity grows, revenue for Ripple’s services business is not the same thing as demand for XRP.

Why Ripple’s business growth does not automatically create XRP demand
A Ripple Prime client can pay for execution, clearing, financing or settlement services without buying XRP, according to the Seoul Economic Daily report. Those payments would be company revenue, not distributions to XRP holders. Ripple has not disclosed how much XRP is used in the reported leveraged ETF business, so the amount of additional token demand attributable to it is unknown.

The distinction matters because corporate activity and a token’s market demand are different measures. More clients, revenue or institutional reach may strengthen Ripple’s business, but none by itself shows that clients are purchasing and holding XRP. Nor do the reported developments establish a causal effect on XRP’s price.
Where XRP could fit—and what remains unproven
The report identifies several possible links between Ripple’s services and XRP: the XRP Ledger requires XRP for transaction fees; XRP can act as a bridge asset; and it can be used as trading collateral on Ripple Prime. These are potential channels for use, not evidence that the new clients are buying substantial amounts of XRP or retaining it over time. The report notes that ledger fees are small and does not quantify new demand from bridge or collateral use.

Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, also offers a dollar-pegged option for some institutional payment and collateral needs. In a June 2, 2026 announcement, Ripple said RLUSD was available to institutions in Türkiye through BiLira, Bitexen and Bitlo, and reported its market capitalization at $1.7 billion. That figure is Ripple’s reported measurement, not an independently audited market figure in the cited announcement. RLUSD is distinct from XRP, and Ripple says the stablecoin is also available on blockchains other than the XRP Ledger.

Ripple announced that it had received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for an application to establish Ripple National Trust Bank. The company said the proposed arrangement would involve federal and state oversight of RLUSD reserves. The approval is conditional, and the company announcement does not establish that the bank, its customers or its services must acquire XRP.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse described the approval as “a massive step forward – setting the highest standard for stablecoin compliance with both federal and state oversight,” according to Ripple’s announcement. That is the CEO’s characterization in a company press release, not an independent assessment by the regulator.
ETF shares are not the same as direct XRP holdings
Institutional exposure to XRP can also come through exchange-traded fund shares, which should not be confused with a company buying XRP directly for its own balance sheet. A Ripple-authored article said cumulative U.S. spot XRP ETF inflows exceeded $1.50 billion by early March 2026. It also reported that Goldman Sachs disclosed $153.8 million in spot XRP ETF exposure in a Q4 2025 13F filing. These are figures reported by Ripple; a 13F position in ETF shares does not prove direct token ownership, a continuing position after the filing, or an unhedged bet on XRP’s price.

A Bitwise XRP ETF SEC filing illustrates the difference between owning fund shares and holding tokens directly: the fund says it invests substantially all its proceeds in XRP and holds the tokens with a custodian. The filing lists a 0.34% annual sponsor fee, subject to its stated initial waiver, and says the fund made no distributions during the period reported. ETF shares carry their own structure, custody arrangements, fees and risks; they are not interchangeable with direct XRP ownership or Ripple equity.

How to assess the Wall Street expansion
To judge whether Ripple’s institutional growth is becoming an XRP market story, look for evidence of token use or acquisition rather than treating company milestones as a proxy. The distinctions to keep clear are:

- Company revenue versus token demand: Fees earned by Ripple Prime do not establish purchases of XRP.
- RLUSD versus XRP: Stablecoin payment or collateral activity may use RLUSD rather than the volatile token.
- ETF shares versus direct ownership: ETF exposure is not proof that an institution directly holds XRP.
- Potential use versus demonstrated use: Bridge, fee and collateral functions identify possible demand channels, but disclosed transaction volumes or XRP balances would be needed to measure their scale.
- Announcements versus requirements: A partnership or conditional regulatory approval does not show that customers are required to buy XRP.
The October 2026 Wall Street report describes a potential expansion of Ripple’s institutional services. The evidence cited alongside it does not quantify how much that business adds to XRP purchases or sustained holdings.
