Ripple Prime announced institutional real-world-asset (RWA) perpetual swaps on October 15, 2026. The service gives eligible clients exposure to more than 100 equity, index, ETF, metal, energy and foreign-exchange markets around the clock, including weekends. Ripple Prime acts as principal, while Trade.xyz perpetual-futures contracts on Hyperliquid provide the referenced market infrastructure.
What Ripple launched
Ripple Prime’s new offering is a set of leveraged perpetual swaps whose reference assets come from traditional financial markets. The contracts have no fixed expiry, but they do not give the holder ownership of the referenced shares, commodities, currencies or exchange-traded funds. A client is taking derivative exposure to the reference price instead of buying the underlying asset.

Ripple says institutional clients, including Virtu, are already trading swaps linked to more than 100 markets. The stated categories are individual equities, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy and foreign exchange. Trading and settlement are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, subject to the client’s jurisdiction and onboarding status.
How the Ripple Prime, Trade.xyz and Hyperliquid arrangement works
Ripple Prime is the client-facing principal
Clients trade the swaps through Ripple Prime, which says it serves as the principal counterparty. That structure gives an institution one contractual relationship and a consolidated place to manage the positions, rather than requiring separate bilateral relationships for every referenced market.

Trade.xyz supplies the referenced perpetual contracts
The swaps reference perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid. Hyperliquid therefore supplies the digital-asset-market infrastructure on which the referenced contracts trade, while Ripple Prime packages access for its institutional customers and manages the client relationship.
Margin and collateral
Ripple’s materials describe cross-margining RWA exposures against other supported asset classes and identify Ripple USD (RLUSD) as collateral. Availability of RLUSD collateral and the products themselves depends on jurisdiction. Ripple’s broader capabilities also mention XRP and RLUSD, but the swap description does not say that XRP is mandatory for every trade.

What “perpetual swap” means here
- No scheduled expiry: Unlike a dated futures contract, a perpetual swap is designed to remain open without a set expiration date.
- Leverage and margin: The position is a margined derivative, so losses can consume collateral and trigger liquidation or other risk controls.
- Reference exposure, not ownership: Holding a swap does not convey voting rights, dividends, delivery rights or title to the underlying stock, metal, energy product or currency.
- Continuous market access: The digital venue can operate on weekends and outside the hours of the underlying asset’s conventional exchange. That changes when a position can be opened or closed; it does not turn the underlying market into a continuously open spot exchange.

What the $9 billion figure does—and does not—measure
The October 15 Bloomberg report describes Ripple’s launch as an attempt to capture demand in a perp market framed by a $9 billion headline. The accessible report excerpt does not explain how that number was calculated. It should not be presented as Ripple Prime’s balance sheet, revenue, client assets or a verified total of its open interest.

Those numbers are company-reported. The filing says its discussion relies on public information that Hyperliquid Strategies did not independently verify. They show the scale and momentum of the broader perpetual-market infrastructure, but they do not establish the calculation behind the $9 billion headline or prove that Ripple Prime has captured that amount.
Who can use the service now?
The current stated availability comes through Ripple Prime’s CIV BVI license. Eligibility therefore depends on where an institution is incorporated, its regulatory status, onboarding checks and whether the relevant product and RLUSD collateral are available in that jurisdiction. Ripple has indicated that additional regions are intended later, but no timetable or complete country list is provided in the launch announcement.

The announcement names Virtu as an institutional client. That is evidence of a named participant, not a guarantee that every broker, fund, bank or professional trader can access the contracts immediately.

Operational and regulatory risks institutions still face
- Leverage and liquidation: A perpetual structure removes a calendar expiry, not the possibility that adverse price moves consume margin.
- Counterparty exposure: Trading with Ripple Prime as principal concentrates the contractual relationship with that entity and makes its credit, collateral and risk-management arrangements material.
- Venue and reference mismatch: The swap can trade continuously while the referenced equity or commodity market is closed. Prices, liquidity and hedging conditions may therefore differ during nights, holidays and weekends.
- Collateral and stablecoin risk: RLUSD eligibility, transferability and use as margin are jurisdiction-dependent and subject to the terms of the service.
- Regulatory scope: A BVI license does not automatically authorize distribution in every country. Institutions must confirm local derivatives, marketing, custody and reporting requirements.
- No underlying ownership: The product does not replace a shareholding, a physical commodity position or a conventional cash-market transaction.
Why the launch matters
Ripple is positioning RWA perpetual swaps as a meeting point between traditional market references and digital-market infrastructure. For institutions, the proposed advantages are broad reference coverage, a single principal relationship, consolidated margin and access outside conventional exchange hours. For the market, the launch is another sign that perpetual contracts are expanding beyond crypto-native references into equities, commodities and currencies.

The important qualification is scale. Ripple has launched the product and identified more than 100 reference markets, but the $9 billion figure remains a headline description whose underlying calculation is not disclosed in the accessible report. Hyperliquid’s reported 2026 metrics support the existence of a large and growing venue ecosystem; they are not a verified Ripple Prime asset or revenue figure.
