Fix the Riot Client “Close Other Riot Games Products” Error

To fix “Please close other Riot Games products before signing out,” close any open Riot games normally, then wait for their status in Riot Client to change to Play. If the games are already closed but sign-out is still blocked, exit and reopen Riot Client; restart Windows if the client continues to show a stuck state.

What the message means

The message appears when you try to sign out of Riot Client. A likely explanation is that the client still considers a Riot game to be running, even if its window is no longer visible. That is a useful troubleshooting explanation, not an official diagnosis: Riot’s FAQ, published May 27, 2026, does not discuss this exact sign-out message.

Fix the sign-out lock

Close any open Riot game normally. Use the game’s own menu to exit. Do not leave an active match just to sign out.
Wait for Riot Client to update the game status. Open the relevant game tab and wait for the status to change from Playing to Play.
Check other Riot games. If another game is still open, exit it normally and wait for its status to show Play as well.
Restart Riot Client if sign-out remains blocked. Use the Riot Client icon in the Windows notification area to exit the client, reopen it, and try signing out again.
Restart Windows if the state returns. After the PC restarts, open Riot Client and retry.
Update Riot Client and contact Riot Player Support if the problem persists. Riot’s FAQ recommends restarting the client and PC for launch problems and directs players to support when standard steps do not resolve an issue.

Why checking Riot Client matters

Riot says that, as part of its 2026 rollout, Riot games on PC go through Riot Client each time they launch, including when started from existing desktop shortcuts. The client provides shared access across Riot games, so checking its game status is a sensible step. This does not establish the cause of any individual sign-out lock.

What not to do

For this sign-out issue, the available guidance supports closing games and restarting the client or PC. It does not support deleting Riot folders or uninstalling Vanguard as a fix. Avoid those disruptive changes unless Riot Support gives you a specific reason to make them.

When to contact Riot Support

If you have closed all Riot games, restarted Riot Client and Windows, and the sign-out restriction remains, contact Riot Player Support. Include the exact message and describe which steps you tried; Riot’s FAQ recommends contacting support when its standard recovery steps do not resolve a persistent problem.
