A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If your Ring doorbell is offline, first check the Ring app’s device tile and Device Health, then rule out a Ring service incident and a home internet outage. Next check the doorbell’s power and Wi-Fi signal before trying to reconnect it. Ring says an offline device cannot provide live video, alerts, or event recording.
Check what the Ring app says
- Open the Ring app and find the doorbell’s device tile. Look for an offline icon, tap the tile, and note any error code or suggested steps.
- Open Device Health. Check the device’s current connection status, Wi-Fi Signal Strength, and battery information if it is a battery-powered model.
Ring Support states: “If your Ring device falls offline, you will not be able to view live video, get alerts, or record events around your home.” The statement is from Ring’s Fixing offline devices article.

Rule out a Ring or home internet outage
Check Ring.com Status for a service incident. The status page can change, so check it when troubleshooting rather than relying on a past report. Also test whether another phone, computer, or smart-home device on your home network can reach the internet.
- If Ring reports an incident, or several internet-connected devices are offline, the problem may be outside the doorbell. Wait for service or home internet to recover before changing the doorbell’s setup.
- If Ring services and other devices work but this doorbell does not, focus on its power, Wi-Fi signal, and connection settings.
Check power for your doorbell type
Battery-powered models
In Device Health, check the battery status. If it needs charging or does not appear to charge, use a cable and USB adapter compatible with your model. Ring suggests testing the outlet and trying another charging cable or adapter if charging fails. See Ring’s Troubleshooting battery performance guidance.

Wired models
Confirm that the doorbell is connected to the correct power source and transformer for that model. Requirements vary by model, so use its installation guidance rather than assuming all wired Ring doorbells share the same electrical requirements. Ring’s connection troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking the power source when diagnosing setup problems.
Read the Wi-Fi signal in Device Health
Ring uses RSSI, a measure of received Wi-Fi signal strength, to classify the connection. In Device Health, check the Signal Strength value and compare it with Ring’s published bands:

| RSSI | Ring’s description |
|---|---|
| 0 to -60 | Great |
| -60 to -70 | Okay |
| -70 to -80 | Poor |
| -80 or worse | Very poor |
Ring associates poor and very poor signal with delays, interruptions, or intermittent service and disconnections. These are diagnostic bands, not statistics about how often doorbells go offline. See Understanding Wi-Fi recommendations for Ring devices.
If the signal is poor
- Move the router nearer to the doorbell if practical, then check Signal Strength again.
- Restart the modem and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds, then allow them to reconnect.
- Check that the doorbell is using a compatible home Wi-Fi network. Ring devices support 2.4 GHz, and some models also support 5 GHz; confirm the band supported by your exact model.
Only consider adding coverage equipment if the signal remains weak at the doorbell location. Ring names Chime Pro and eero as possible ways to improve signal. Whether an extender or mesh system will help depends on coverage where the doorbell is installed and compatibility with your network and Ring setup; moving the existing router may be enough.

Reconnect the doorbell before resetting it
If the service, home internet, power, and signal checks do not explain the problem, use the connection controls in Device Health:
- Open the Ring app and select the doorbell.
- Open Device Health.
- Select Reconnect or Change Network, then follow the app’s prompts and the device’s light or audio cues.
If the doorbell remains offline or is unresponsive, follow the reboot or power-cycle instructions for its exact model. Ring’s Rebooting your Video Doorbell or Security Camera guidance notes that an in-app reboot requires Wi-Fi. A factory reset is not the first step: use model-specific instructions only after simpler checks and reconnection have failed.
