The Ring Air Quality Monitor is the better budget choice for a household already using Ring or Alexa that needs basic PM2.5, carbon-monoxide (CO), humidity, and temperature readings.
The decisive difference is not a small accuracy score: it is what each product can sense. Ring cannot measure CO2 or radon. View Plus can measure both, plus volatile organic compounds (VOCs), PM2.5, humidity, temperature, and air pressure. That makes View Plus useful for ventilation decisions and radon screening, while Ring is a simpler alerting sensor tied to Amazon Sidewalk and the Ring app.

What Ring Air Quality Monitor measures—and what it cannot
Four measurements in one small indoor unit
Ring lists four measurements: PM2.5, carbon monoxide, humidity, and temperature. PM2.5 is fine particulate matter small enough to be a concern during cooking, smoke events, dusty work, or other particle-generating activities. Humidity and temperature provide basic comfort context and can help you notice a damp or unusually dry room.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas produced by incomplete combustion. Ring’s inclusion of a CO sensor makes it more informative than a temperature-and-humidity-only gadget, but it does not turn the unit into a code-required carbon-monoxide alarm. Keep certified smoke and CO alarms installed as required by local rules and the alarm manufacturer’s instructions.
The explicit CO2 and radon limitation
Ring’s official FAQ states: “The Ring Air Quality Monitor does not measure Carbon Dioxide (CO2) or Radon.” That limitation matters when you are trying to answer two common household questions:
- Is ventilation adequate? CO2 is commonly used as a proxy for how much fresh air a room is receiving from occupants and ventilation.
- Is radon a concern? Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can accumulate indoors, particularly in lower levels. A PM2.5 or CO sensor cannot detect it.
If either question is central to your purchase, Ring is not the right single device. You would need a separate CO2 sensor, a radon monitor or test, or both.
What Airthings View Plus measures
Seven factors, including radon and CO2
Airthings says View Plus monitors seven indoor air-quality factors at once: radon, PM2.5, CO2, VOCs, humidity, temperature, and air pressure. This broader coverage lets you relate a pollutant to a possible household cause. For example, a rise in CO2 can prompt a ventilation check, while a PM2.5 rise may coincide with cooking or smoke. VOC readings can reveal changes after cleaning, painting, or bringing new materials indoors, although a VOC value does not identify a specific chemical by itself.
Radon sensing is a different job from short-term comfort monitoring
View Plus uses a passive diffusion chamber and alpha spectrometry for radon, according to Airthings’ technical specifications. The presence of a radon sensor makes it suitable for ongoing screening, but it does not eliminate the value of a professional radon test when one is required for a property transaction, a local program, or a health decision. Follow local guidance for test duration and placement rather than treating one displayed number as a universal pass-or-fail result.

CO2 technical range and sampling interval
The View Plus CO2 sensor is specified as an NDIR sensor with a 400–5,000 parts-per-million range. Airthings’ technical page specifies five-minute sensor sampling. Those figures describe the sensor’s stated operating range and measurement schedule; they are not an independent accuracy or response-time test.
Which monitor is better for PM2.5 and carbon monoxide?
Both products list PM2.5, so either can add particle information to a room that otherwise has none. Your choice then depends on what you need alongside PM2.5.
- Choose Ring when the goal is a lower-cost device that combines PM2.5 with CO, humidity, and temperature and can report through the Ring app and Alexa.
- Choose View Plus when PM2.5 is only one part of a broader plan that also includes CO2, VOCs, radon, a visible display, and long-term history.
Neither product should replace a certified smoke alarm or CO alarm. An air-quality monitor can provide additional information, but its consumer notifications, power arrangements, and sensor behavior are not the same as a life-safety alarm designed to meet local code requirements.
CO2 and ventilation: why View Plus has the advantage
CO2 is the feature that most clearly separates the two devices for everyday ventilation management. View Plus can show CO2 trends in rooms such as bedrooms, offices, classrooms, or living areas. A sustained increase while people are present can tell you that the room needs more outdoor-air exchange; a decrease after opening a window or changing ventilation provides feedback on whether the intervention worked.
Ring cannot provide that feedback because it has no CO2 sensor. A high or low humidity reading cannot substitute for CO2: humidity is affected by weather, showers, cooking, plants, and heating, while CO2 is primarily useful here as an occupancy-and-ventilation indicator. If ventilation decisions are a major reason for buying a monitor, weight sensor coverage more heavily than the initial price.

Connectivity, apps, and data history
Ring: Sidewalk, Ring app, and Alexa
The Ring Air Quality Monitor uses Amazon Sidewalk connectivity and is monitored through the Ring app. Ring also lists Alexa compatibility. This is the most straightforward choice for someone who already manages Ring devices and wants another sensor in the same household ecosystem.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Sidewalk coverage varies by location. Before buying, check whether the service is available and reliable where the monitor will be installed. A device that depends on a network service can still be physically powered while its remote reporting is unavailable, so do not place it where you need a guaranteed life-safety notification.
View Plus: Wi-Fi, SmartLink, Bluetooth, and cloud history
View Plus supports Wi-Fi or SmartLink connectivity with a hub, and Bluetooth is used for setup. Airthings also identifies cloud history as part of the product experience. That combination is useful when you want to compare readings over hours, days, or seasons rather than glance at a single current value.
Connectivity affects convenience, not the number of sensors inside the device. View Plus remains the broader instrument even if you use it without a permanent cloud connection; Ring remains limited to its four listed measurements even when linked to Alexa.
Display and history: instant readings versus app-only monitoring
View Plus has a 2.9-inch ePaper display with 296×128 resolution and a red/yellow/green indicator. You can walk past the unit and see its status without opening an app. The color indicator is a quick signal, while the numerical readings and history provide the context needed to decide what changed.

Ring’s cited specifications describe Ring app monitoring but do not state a built-in screen. Plan to check Ring readings through the app or an associated Alexa experience rather than expecting an always-visible number on the sensor itself. For a utility room, bedroom, or office where you want passive glanceable feedback, View Plus has the clear design advantage.
Setup and calibration
Setting up Ring Air Quality Monitor
- Choose an indoor location within the product’s stated operating range of 0°C to 40°C, near the area you want to understand rather than directly beside a window, stove, vent, or heater.
- Connect the unit to AC power. Ring lists AC power as its power method, so plan for a nearby outlet and avoid treating it as a portable, battery-powered sensor.
- Use the Ring app to add and monitor the device, then confirm that Amazon Sidewalk connectivity is available at the installation address.
- If you use Alexa, verify that the monitor appears in the same household setup and that notifications are configured to your preference.
- Generate a known, non-dangerous change—such as ordinary cooking activity at a safe distance—and observe how the app reports it. Do not deliberately create carbon monoxide or smoke to test a sensor.
The product details cited here do not specify a Ring calibration period or sampling interval. Treat initial readings as the device’s reported values and follow any current in-app instructions supplied with the unit.
Setting up Airthings View Plus
- Place View Plus on a tabletop or mount it on a wall in the room you want to monitor. Keep the location representative of the room, not immediately beside a window, supply vent, radiator, cooking surface, or bathroom exhaust.
- Use Bluetooth during setup, then connect through Wi-Fi or SmartLink with a compatible hub as appropriate for your installation.
- Leave the monitor in place while its CO2 and VOC sensors complete their initial calibration. Airthings specifies approximately seven days for this process.
- After calibration, use the five-minute sampling schedule and the device’s display or cloud history to look for patterns rather than reacting to one isolated value.
- Record major changes in occupancy, cooking, cleaning, heating, or ventilation so you can relate a trend to a likely cause.
Moving View Plus repeatedly during the seven-day period can make the resulting baseline less representative. If you change rooms, allow the monitor to settle again and interpret the new location as a separate baseline.

Ring’s AC-powered installation
Ring measures 46.6×65×65 mm and uses AC power. Its compact size makes it easy to fit on a shelf or other surface near an outlet, but the power requirement limits placement compared with a battery device. Use its stated indoor range of 0°C to 40°C when choosing a room.
View Plus’s two-year battery claim
Airthings lists up to two years of battery life for View Plus. “Up to” is a maximum claim, not a guaranteed interval for every connectivity mode, environment, or usage pattern. Battery operation makes wall or tabletop placement easier and avoids routing a power cable, especially in a bedroom or hallway where an outlet is inconvenient.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
For either device, place the sensor where people actually spend time and where air can circulate. Avoid enclosing it in a cabinet, setting it directly in a stream of conditioned air, or placing it next to a source that will dominate the reading. A monitor is most useful when its location answers a specific question: a bedroom for overnight CO2, a kitchen-adjacent area for particle changes, or a lower level for radon screening.
Price, warranty, and total cost
Ring’s US product page lists the Air Quality Monitor at $69.99 in 2026 and includes a one-year limited warranty. That is the only purchase price established in the product details used here. A current View Plus price is not stated, so do not assume that the two products have comparable upfront costs; check the active listing in your region before deciding.
Upfront price is only one part of ownership. Ring may be the lower-cost route if you already have the Ring app, Alexa, and Sidewalk coverage. View Plus may reduce the need to buy separate CO2, VOC, and radon instruments, but its value depends on whether you will use those additional measurements. Also account for batteries, a SmartLink hub if your chosen setup requires one, and any professional radon testing that local guidance calls for.

Choose Ring when these conditions fit
- You want the lowest stated entry price: $69.99 in the US listing cited for 2026.
- You already use Ring or Alexa and prefer one app and ecosystem.
- Your priority is PM2.5, CO, humidity, and temperature rather than CO2 or radon.
- AC power and app-based monitoring are acceptable.
- Amazon Sidewalk coverage is available at your location.
Choose Airthings View Plus when these conditions fit
- You need radon screening in the same unit as PM2.5 and comfort measurements.
- You want CO2 data to guide ventilation decisions.
- VOC and air-pressure readings are useful to your monitoring plan.
- You want a local ePaper display and cloud history rather than app-only checks.
- You prefer a battery-powered unit that can be wall-mounted or placed on a tabletop.
- You can allow approximately seven days for CO2 and VOC calibration before judging the baseline.
Important limitations and safety boundaries
Sensor coverage is not the same as independent accuracy validation. The radon method, CO2 range, five-minute sampling interval, battery claim, and other figures above come from manufacturer specifications. They do not establish how either product performs in every home or under every pollutant condition.
Neither monitor replaces a code-required smoke alarm or carbon-monoxide alarm. Keep those alarms installed, powered, tested, and replaced according to local requirements and their instructions. Likewise, View Plus’s radon capability does not replace a professional test when a property sale, local rule, or health professional calls for one.
Finally, do not treat a green indicator or a single low reading as proof that a home is risk-free. Use trends, room context, and appropriate certified equipment for decisions with health or life-safety consequences.
Bottom-line decision
For most readers asking which indoor monitor is better, the answer is Airthings View Plus: it covers seven factors, including the two that Ring lacks—CO2 and radon—while adding VOCs, a local display, five-minute sampling, and history options. It is the more complete tool for ventilation feedback, radon screening, and households that want one monitor to explain several aspects of indoor air.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBuy the Ring Air Quality Monitor instead when your needs are intentionally narrower: PM2.5, carbon monoxide, humidity, and temperature at a lower stated US price, managed through Ring and Alexa where Sidewalk works. Its value comes from simplicity and ecosystem fit, not from replacing the broader sensor set in View Plus.
