Short answer: RIDGID’s Lifetime Service Agreement can provide long-term service coverage for eligible products, but only for the original owner after accepted registration and subject to exclusions. Milwaukee’s five-year limited warranty is a common term for covered portable power tools, not every product. DEWALT’s familiar three-year warranty, one-year free service contract, and 90-day money-back guarantee address different situations. The fairest comparison is for the exact model, battery, purchase date, and seller—not the brand names alone.
The terms below are for the United States, based on manufacturer-published information accessed October 7, 2026. They should not be assumed to apply in other countries.

How the three programs compare
| Brand and program | Headline coverage for common eligible U.S. power tools | Key conditions |
|---|---|---|
| RIDGID Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA) | Lifetime service, parts, and qualifying battery coverage for the original owner after accepted registration | Eligible model and purchase channel; register within 90 days under the detailed terms; retain proof of purchase and the approval/customer ID. Not transferable and subject to exclusions. |
| Milwaukee limited warranty | Five years for most covered electric portable power tools | Model-specific exceptions and terms apply. Coverage is for the original purchaser, and Milwaukee recommends proof of purchase for an accurate evaluation. |
| DEWALT common package | Three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract, and 90-day money-back guarantee | The three periods cover different things. Authorized-seller rules and product-specific package terms apply. |
These are not three versions of the same promise. RIDGID calls its LSA a service agreement, Milwaukee describes a limited warranty, and DEWALT divides its common offer among defect coverage, maintenance service, and a return guarantee.
What RIDGID’s “lifetime” LSA covers
Eligibility and registration
RIDGID’s detailed U.S. terms cover eligible handheld power tools, select stationary tools, batteries, pneumatic tools, compressors, and outdoor power equipment. The original purchaser may elect to register a qualifying product for the free LSA. The detailed terms require registration within 90 days of purchase, submission of proof for approval, and product model and serial information. Batteries and chargers included in qualifying kits may also need to be identified. RIDGID says it sends an approval confirmation and customer ID after processing; keep those along with the purchase proof because the terms call for the ID and personal identification when requesting service. See RIDGID’s detailed LSA terms.
#1 Best Overall
There is a purchase-channel wording difference between RIDGID’s published pages. The detailed terms say LSA is available only for eligible RIDGID tools bought at The Home Depot, while the current program overview describes eligible purchases from The Home Depot or an authorized retailer. Do not treat a seller’s description as confirmation: check the terms that apply to the exact product and purchase.
Coverage, exclusions, and start date
RIDGID’s detailed terms say LSA begins after the standard three-year limited warranty ends. For qualifying tools, the listed normal-wear items include brushes, chucks, motors, switches, and gears; the terms also include cordless batteries and specified pneumatic-tool components. Coverage is for the original purchaser and cannot be transferred. Reconditioned tools are excluded from LSA and, according to the detailed terms, receive a separate one-year limited warranty.
The terms exclude misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, unauthorized repair, damage caused by the user or an outside source, and failure to follow the manual. Consumable accessories—including blades, bits, grinding discs, and sandpaper—are also excluded. RIDGID’s detailed terms explicitly distinguish LSA from a warranty: “This Lifetime Service Agreement is not a warranty; it does not alter or limit the 3-Year Limited Service Warranty provided with your product, and it is not intended to create any implied warranties or rights of any kind including any warranties of MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.”

How to request service
RIDGID’s detailed terms describe service through an authorized RIDGID service center. Its current overview also describes a Service Direct route: file online from the registered tool, use a prepaid FedEx label, and have the item repaired or replaced. Because RIDGID presents these routes differently across its pages, follow the current instructions shown for the registered product rather than assuming one route applies to every claim.
What Milwaukee’s five-year warranty means
Milwaukee’s U.S. warranty page says most covered electric portable power tools have a five-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship, subject to exceptions. Its wording is: “Subject to certain exceptions, MILWAUKEE will repair or replace any part on an electric power tool which, after examination, is determined by MILWAUKEE to be defective in material or workmanship for a period of five (5) years after the date of purchase unless otherwise noted.” The qualification “unless otherwise noted” matters: Milwaukee also describes a three-year limited warranty for some products on its registration and warranty page.
The warranty is for the original purchaser and requires product evaluation. Milwaukee lists exclusions including misuse, alterations, abuse, normal wear and tear, lack of maintenance, and accidents. It recommends including a receipt for the most accurate warranty evaluation. Use the warranty coverage page and its warranty checker or service-order portal to verify the exact model. Batteries, accessories, and other product categories may have their own periods; do not extend the five-year term to them without checking.

How DEWALT’s three periods differ
Three-year limited warranty
For most tools displaying DEWALT’s common three-year/one-year/90-day package, the three-year limited warranty covers defects caused by faulty materials or workmanship. It applies to the original end-user purchaser. Normal wear and tool abuse are excluded from this defect warranty.

The separate first-year service contract addresses maintenance and ordinary wear. DEWALT’s U.S. warranty page says: “DEWALT will maintain the tool and replace worn parts caused by normal use, for free, any time during the first year after purchase, or date of delivery of the product(whichever date is later).” This is distinct from the three-year limited warranty.
90-day money-back guarantee
The money-back guarantee is a separate return option for eligible power tools, lasers, or nailers if the buyer is dissatisfied. It is not an extension of defect coverage. DEWALT’s U.S. warranty page sets out the consumer-facing terms, including authorized-seller restrictions subject to applicable law. Product packages vary, so confirm which periods are actually offered for the product.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is RIDGID better than Milwaukee or DEWALT?
There is no single winner based on the headline terms. RIDGID may be attractive if the exact product qualifies, the buyer completes registration and keeps the required records, and coverage for qualifying wear items or batteries matters. Milwaukee offers a longer stated limited-warranty period than DEWALT’s common three-year defect warranty for many covered portable power tools, but model-specific exceptions apply. DEWALT’s first-year service contract is specifically useful for normal-use wear, while its 90-day guarantee is a separate dissatisfaction-related option.

Manufacturer-published terms do not establish which brand has higher claim approval rates, faster repairs, or lower total ownership costs. Those outcomes cannot be inferred from the coverage periods alone.

How to compare the exact tools fairly
Before choosing between otherwise suitable tools, compare the same country and similar product type. For each exact SKU or model, verify:
- Coverage type and duration: defect warranty, service agreement, maintenance contract, or return guarantee.
- Whether ordinary wear is covered, and which parts count as wear items.
- Battery and charger terms, especially for batteries bundled in a kit.
- Registration deadline, required proof, and whether registration must be approved.
- Original-owner and authorized-seller restrictions.
- Exclusions such as misuse, unauthorized repair, or consumables.
- Claim route—mail-in, Service Direct, factory service, or authorized service center—and shipping responsibility where the specific terms state it.
Use the manufacturer’s terms for the product and purchase in hand. RIDGID publishes its tool range at RIDGID Power Tools; that product listing alone does not establish LSA eligibility.
