Which game is better for snow sports?
Both games list skiing, snowboarding and wingsuiting. Steep adds paragliding to its official sport list, making it the clearer choice if that activity is important to you. Ubisoft frames Steep around the Alps; Riders Republic combines its winter sports with biking in a broader playground.

Descriptions such as “more realistic,” “more atmospheric” or “more arcade-like” reflect player impressions, not a controlled comparison established by the available official information. Treat them as preference cues rather than objective verdicts. A recent Reddit comparison discussion illustrates that players disagree; it is anecdotal, not a representative poll.

Which has more multiplayer options?
Riders Republic has the more extensively documented competitive offering. Ubisoft lists downhill races, team-vs-team competition, PvP events and mass races, and advertises cross-play and cross-progression. Its game page says more than 50 players can participate simultaneously on next-generation systems and 20 or more on current-generation systems. Those are Ubisoft’s generation-specific capacity statements, not counts of how many people are playing now. Ubisoft’s Riders Republic page provides the mode and feature details.
For Steep, Ubisoft says players can go alone or with friends, but the official source cited here does not provide a directly comparable list of multiplayer modes or a current player count. Neither the capacity figures for Riders Republic nor the available feature descriptions establish which game currently has a larger active community.

Check platform support before choosing
Ubisoft lists Steep for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Riders Republic is listed for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox and Steam. Confirm the exact console generation and storefront listing for the copy you intend to buy, particularly if you are on a newer console or shopping for PC.
On PC, Ubisoft Store requires a Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Connect for Riders Republic. The Steam listing also specifies a Ubisoft account requirement. Check the relevant Steam listing or Ubisoft Store listing for the conditions attached to that storefront.

What the release dates and player counts do—and do not—tell you
Ubisoft gives Steep’s release date as December 2, 2016, and Riders Republic’s as October 28, 2021. The later date does not, by itself, establish that Riders Republic is a direct sequel; the official descriptions cited here establish different sports and presentation, not that relationship.
No comparable sales figures, current active-player counts or controlled tests of handling, graphics, realism or performance are established by the cited sources. Ubisoft’s simultaneous-player capacity figures describe advertised multiplayer capacity by console generation, not present-day activity. There is therefore no evidence-based way here to rank the games by popularity, visual quality or value.

How to make the choice
- Pick Steep if the Alps setting and the combination of skiing, snowboarding, wingsuiting and paragliding are what you want.
- Pick Riders Republic if biking is essential, or if the listed races, PvP formats and mass races are a stronger draw.
- Check your platform first. The official platform lists differ, and PC copies may require a Ubisoft account even when purchased through Steam.
- Let subjective style decide only if it matters to you. Player descriptions of atmosphere and realism vary, and the available sources do not settle those comparisons.
