Toy Story: Retro Roundup! delivers 11 versions of five period games with unusually thoughtful archive material, while Toy Story 3 Complete Edition adds a still-enjoyable 3D adventure, local co-op and its flexible Toy Box sandbox. The $39.99 bundle (Atari listing, 2026) is compelling for nostalgia and collection value, provided you accept dated controls, difficult sections and a few surviving technical limitations.
What is included in the Xbox double pack?
This is not one remastered Toy Story game. It is a two-part package: a historical collection of console and handheld releases, plus an upgraded modern-console edition of the 2010 movie tie-in.

The 11 Retro Roundup versions
Atari’s breakdown counts every platform version separately:
- Toy Story (1995): Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo and Game Boy
- Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! (1999): PlayStation 1
- Toy Story 2 (1999): Game Boy Color
- Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000): PlayStation 1 and Game Boy Color
- Toy Story Racer (2001): PlayStation 1 and Game Boy Color
- A Bug’s Life (1998): PlayStation 1 and Game Boy Color
The inclusion of A Bug’s Life makes the set broader than its name suggests. The museum and development material give context that an ordinary ROM compilation would lack, including artwork, recreated box designs, photos and documentary-style videos.

How Retro Roundup plays in 2026
Several of these games appear on Xbox for the first time, which is the collection’s most practical benefit for current-console owners. Some titles offer higher-resolution rendering, visual filters, soundtrack listening and a Practice Mode. Practice Mode is particularly useful: a walkthrough video can lead directly into the relevant gameplay section, turning archival footage into a way to learn an old level rather than merely watch it.
The underlying games have not been redesigned into modern platformers. Expect awkward camera behavior in some 3D sections, demanding difficulty, rigid checkpoints and other 1990s and early-2000s conventions. Those traits are part of the historical record, but they can make the collection a poor fit if you want frictionless controls or generous accessibility. The strongest reason to play is comparison: seeing how the same characters and movie properties were adapted across very different hardware.

Toy Story 3 Complete Edition: the modern half
Toy Story 3 Complete Edition preserves the 2010 game’s structure instead of replacing it with a new open-world design. Story Mode recreates recognizable sequences such as the train rescue, Operation Playtime and the junkyard. Woody, Buzz and Jessie each have distinct abilities, giving the campaign some variety.

Story Mode and co-op
Local two-player co-op works in Story Mode and Toy Box Mode. That makes this the pack’s easiest recommendation for families or a second player on the sofa: the campaign supplies recognizable movie moments, while the sandbox supports shorter, less linear sessions.

Toy Box Mode
Toy Box Mode is a customizable Wild West-themed sandbox. You complete quests, earn gold, decorate buildings and change the clothing of townsfolk. It is more structured than a seamless modern open world, but its decorating and progression systems provide reasons to return after the film-based missions are finished.
What the Complete Edition adds
The edition makes Evil Emperor Zurg playable and includes four additional theme packs that had been restricted to some earlier versions. Atari says the upgraded release can reach up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, depending on platform. The Xbox listing confirms Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S support, Smart Delivery, Xbox Series X|S optimization, 4K Ultra HD, achievements, cloud saves, single-player play and local shared or split-screen play.

Visual and performance upgrades—and what remains
On Xbox Series X, the game appears to operate at 60 frames per second, with higher resolutions, smoother frame delivery and modern lighting compared with the 2010 release. This is preservation with technical polish, not a full remake. Low-resolution cutscenes remain noticeably softer than gameplay, and Toy Box areas still pause for loading. Those compromises do not undermine the campaign, but they set a realistic expectation for an upgrade built on the original design.
Bundle or Toy Story 3 alone?
| Option | Listed price | Choose it when… | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double pack | $39.99 (Atari, 2026) | You want the 11-game archive, museum extras and the 3D adventure in one purchase | You must be willing to engage with dated retro design |
| Toy Story 3 Complete Edition | $24.99 (Atari, 2026); separate Xbox pricing reported at $24.99–$29.99, depending on region/store | You primarily want co-op, Story Mode and Toy Box Mode | You miss the historical collection and archive material |
Atari’s product pages showed October 15 availability for both products in 2026. Storefront pricing can vary by region, so verify the amount on your Xbox marketplace before purchase. At the listed $39.99, the bundle adds substantial archival content for roughly $15 over the standalone Atari price; its value falls if you know you will never play older games.
Best Value

Who should buy it?
- Buy the bundle if you collect game history, remember the original releases, want Xbox versions of titles previously unavailable there, or plan to play co-op and explore Toy Box Mode.
- Buy Toy Story 3 separately if you want a focused, family-friendly 3D adventure and have little interest in 8-bit, 16-bit or early-3D curiosities.
- Wait for a discount if dated cameras, high difficulty or loading pauses are likely to frustrate you at launch pricing.
Final assessment
This package succeeds because its two halves serve different purposes. Retro Roundup is an accessible archive of how Toy Story and related films were adapted across generations, strengthened by museum material, visual options and Practice Mode. Toy Story 3 is the more comfortable game to play today, with co-op and a customizable sandbox, yet it honestly retains the bones—and some limitations—of the 2010 original.
Pure Xbox scored the combined release 8/10 in 2026. That rating makes sense for an Xbox owner who values preservation as much as modern convenience: the bundle offers breadth no standalone purchase can match, while Toy Story 3 supplies the immediately enjoyable entry point.
