Yes—KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind is worth playing on Switch 2 if you already follow the series. The action is engaging, and Re Mind adds a more substantial climax and some of the franchise’s strongest boss encounters. The trade-off is an uneven story and an uncapped frame rate that Nintendo Life’s reviewer observed fluctuating during demanding scenes. This is a continuation of a serialized saga, not a good starting point for newcomers.
What is included in the Switch 2 edition?
Nintendo’s US listing describes this as a digital edition of KINGDOM HEARTS III with the Re Mind DLC included. It lists TV, tabletop and handheld play, single-system play, and an estimated 45.2 GB download. The listing also identifies a Switch 2 platform-exclusive Keyblade, Long Night. These are listing details and may change; Nintendo notes that preorder information may not be finalized. See Nintendo’s product listing.

Re Mind revisits the climax from another perspective, with Sora trying to rescue Kairi at the Keyblade Graveyard. SQUARE ENIX lists an additional story, a Limitcut episode with 13 boss battles, a Secret episode and boss battle, Data Greeting, Slideshow, and a Premium Menu with difficulty settings and gameplay challenges. Its standalone DLC requires the base game; in this Switch 2 package, Nintendo lists the game and Re Mind together. SQUARE ENIX’s Re Mind description.

Nintendo Life reviewer Mitch Vogel estimates the epilogue at “five(ish) hours”—an approximate review estimate, not a guaranteed playtime. More important than its length is what it adds: the extra story makes the ending feel more complete, while the demanding endgame battles give the combat a memorable late-game test. Re Mind improves the package, but it does not fix the base game’s narrative pacing or make its earlier difficulty consistently challenging.
How does the Switch 2 port perform?
Vogel reports crisp 1080p output in handheld mode and seemingly dynamic 1440p output when docked. Those are reviewer observations, not instrumented resolution measurements. The main concern is the uncapped frame rate: Vogel found it relatively stable above 30 fps much of the time, but said it fluctuated sharply in visually busy moments and appeared to dip into the mid-20s. The result can feel noticeably uneven during scenes that put more on screen.

- Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III]
The review does not provide instrumented frame-time data or a repeatable benchmark method, so the reported dips should be read as observations rather than a measured performance profile. The available information also does not establish a frame-rate cap, performance mode, or publisher roadmap. This supports a qualified judgment: the port is playable and visually clear in the reviewer’s experience, but its uncapped performance is not consistently smooth. Read Nintendo Life’s review of the European version.
Is the story satisfying?
KINGDOM HEARTS III follows Sora, Donald and Goofy through Disney and Pixar worlds as they confront Organization XIII and try to reunite with Riku and Kairi. It is designed as a culmination, drawing together a long-running, serialized story. Vogel’s assessment is that the payoff can disappoint: the narrative feels both too long and too short as it tries to tie up many subplots, and its pacing is uneven.

- over 140 musical tracks and 20 characters.
- play solo, together in co-op, or battle online in multiplayer
That criticism does not make the game a failure as an action RPG. Vogel praises its combat and exploration, additional Gummi Ship content, and the stronger endgame supplied by Re Mind. Nintendo Life rated it 7/10 and concluded: “Yet despite these shortcomings, Kingdom Hearts 3 is still an enjoyable and engaging action RPG that no KH fan should miss.” Nintendo Life’s review and score.
Should newcomers start here?
No. The game’s emotional and story payoffs depend on a serialized saga, so newcomers are likely to encounter characters and conflicts without the context that makes them land. SQUARE ENIX presents earlier collections as a route through the series, but the material here does not establish a minimum set of games a newcomer must play first. See SQUARE ENIX’s collection and platform page.

For someone already familiar with the series, the answer is different: Re Mind makes this more rewarding as a conclusion, even if the story remains messy. Vogel likewise recommends it to established fans rather than newcomers.

Verdict
For Kingdom Hearts fans, the Switch 2 edition offers an enjoyable action RPG with its major expansion included and standout late-game battles. Its uneven story and the reviewer-reported dips in the uncapped frame rate keep it from being an effortless recommendation. If you are new to the saga, start earlier; if you know it already, this is a worthwhile, imperfect conclusion.
