Check the outbound YouTube Publication Service, its bitrate and process logs, then confirm the correct event and incoming feed in YouTube Live Control Room. If you mean the hosted service Restream.io rather than datarhei Restreamer, its controls and connection model are different.
First, identify which “Restreamer” you are using
datarhei Restreamer is self-hosted streaming software. It sends an outgoing feed to YouTube through a Publication Service configured with a YouTube streaming ID or key. Restream.io is a separate hosted multistreaming service, with its own YouTube channel connection. Check the product name and the screen where you see “offline” before following interface-specific steps.

The instructions below concern datarhei Restreamer. Its documentation pages report updates roughly three years ago, so labels may vary by installed version. If your interface differs, use the installed version and the current process status and logs as your guide.

Trace the stream from source to YouTube
Treat the video input, local player, outbound Publication Service, and YouTube event as separate links in the chain. A healthy local preview only confirms that video is available inside Restreamer; it does not confirm that YouTube is receiving it.

| Layer | What to check | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Video input | Is the source active and producing video? | Video is available to Restreamer. |
| Local player | Does the Restreamer player show the stream? | The local playback path works; it does not prove an outbound YouTube feed. |
| YouTube Publication Service | Is the intended service active, and does Restreamer display a bitrate? | Restreamer reports an outbound publication connection. |
| YouTube Live Control Room | Is the correct event selected, and does it show an incoming encoder feed or preview? | YouTube is receiving data for that event. |
Check the YouTube Publication Service in Restreamer
- Open the active YouTube Publication Service. Confirm it is configured for the channel and live destination you intend to use.
- Verify the YouTube streaming ID or key. Compare it with the stream key for the intended YouTube event. Do not share the key in screenshots, logs sent publicly, or support requests.
- Save the service and check its status. Restreamer’s YouTube guide says the live-stream bitrate appears in the main Restreamer window after the service connects. An active local player without a publication bitrate is not proof of a working YouTube feed.
- Open the publication process details and logs. Look for errors, a stopped process, or evidence that the service is not connecting. Restreamer’s troubleshooting guidance treats video input, player streaming, and Publication Service as distinct places to investigate.
Confirm the event, stream key, and ingest preview in YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room for the intended event.
- Check whether YouTube shows an incoming encoder feed or preview, and read any displayed status or error.
- Compare the event’s stream URL and key with the values entered in Restreamer’s destination configuration. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes using the stream URL and stream key to send a feed.
- If the encoder reports a startup error or the evidence points to a key mismatch, obtain a new key in YouTube and update Restreamer. Resetting the key is not the right first move for every “offline” label; first establish that the event or key is actually the problem.
YouTube’s live-streaming encoder troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking the encoder’s status and messages. Compare what YouTube reports with Restreamer’s publication status rather than relying on either local playback or a single status label alone.
Isolate source, process, or network problems
- Try a virtual or test source. If a test source also fails to reach YouTube, the original camera, capture device, or media input is less likely to be the cause.
- Inspect the Publication Service process. Review its details and logs for connection or startup errors. If the problem continues, generate a process report.
- If the test source works, return to the original input. Check the source itself and the path from its hardware or network transport into Restreamer.
- Check the outbound connection. If Restreamer appears to encode and publish but YouTube does not show a healthy feed, check the server’s outbound internet connectivity as well as the encoder’s health and messages.
Restreamer’s troubleshooting guide recommends checking progressively from the video source and hardware through the network to Restreamer settings. YouTube likewise advises checking encoder health and outbound internet connectivity when diagnosing a feed problem. These checks help locate the failing link without assuming that the source is at fault.

What to send support if the status still disagrees
Gather evidence that shows where the chain breaks. Restreamer requests a process report when opening an issue after its initial troubleshooting steps.
- Your datarhei Restreamer version and the exact status text or screen showing “offline.”
- Whether YouTube Live Control Room shows an incoming preview or an error for the intended event.
- The Publication Service’s process details and relevant logs.
- A Restreamer process report.
- A description of whether a virtual or test source changes the result.
Redact the stream key and any other credentials before sharing configuration details. Never post a live stream key publicly.

For a live event, end the stream in YouTube first
Restreamer’s YouTube guide advises ending a live event on YouTube before stopping the stream in Restreamer. Stopping the publication in Restreamer while the YouTube event is live may prevent YouTube from saving the DVR archive.
