Short answer: the reviewed datarhei Restreamer documentation does not show a setting for fading, crossfading, or making prerecorded videos transition seamlessly inside a YouTube playlist loop. Its HLS “playlist” settings control media segments, not a sequence of video files. A similarly named service, Restream, has separate prerecorded-video features; its documented looping limits apply to that hosted product, not datarhei Restreamer.
First, distinguish Restreamer from Restream
datarhei Restreamer is the self-hosted product covered by the Restreamer YouTube and Processing and Control documentation. Restream is a separate hosted service whose Help Center describes scheduling prerecorded videos. Their similarly named products and different controls are easy to confuse.

The available datarhei documentation explains how to publish a source to YouTube using the Publication Service and a valid YouTube streaming ID. It does not document a control for transitions between prerecorded playlist items, or a control that loops such a playlist to YouTube. The sources therefore do not establish a supported, seamless transition workflow in Restreamer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat Restreamer’s HLS playlist settings actually control
In the Restreamer Processing and Control manual, “playlist” refers to an HLS segment list: the short media chunks used to deliver an HLS stream. It does not mean a queue of separate prerecorded videos. Changing these values affects HLS packaging, not cuts or fades between video items.

- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
| HLS setting | Documented value | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Segment length | Recommended default: 2 seconds | The duration of each HLS media segment, not the transition between videos. |
| Playlist list size | Recommended default: 6 segments | How many segments appear in the HLS list. A value of 0 includes all segments. |
The manual does not describe these defaults as a way to create a gapless cut, fade, or crossfade. Shortening segment length or increasing list size should not be presented as a playlist-transition fix.
Publishing a source to YouTube with datarhei Restreamer
The documented YouTube path is to publish a video source through Restreamer’s Publication Service with a valid YouTube streaming ID. That is a publishing workflow; the cited guide does not provide steps for building or looping a multi-video playlist with transitions.

- In YouTube’s live setup, obtain the streaming ID (stream key) for the broadcast you intend to use.
- In datarhei Restreamer, configure the source for publication through the Publication Service and provide the valid YouTube streaming ID as required by the YouTube guide.
- Start publishing from Restreamer and verify the live broadcast in YouTube. The documentation does not specify a playlist-transition setting to configure in this process.
- When the event is over, end the stream in YouTube first. The Restreamer guide warns that interrupting publication in Restreamer may prevent YouTube from saving the live stream in its DVR archive.
Those instructions concern publishing a source, not a tested workflow for continuously sequencing prerecorded videos. The reviewed material does not establish which additional components or configuration would be needed to produce that sequence.
If you meant Restream’s hosted prerecorded service
Restream’s Help Center describes different behavior for looping one prerecorded video and replaying a multi-video playlist. Its article on looping a prerecorded stream, published March 11, 2026, says paid users can loop a single video up to 10 times, subject to a maximum stream duration of 40 hours. The article says playlists themselves cannot be looped; duplicating videos, up to the 40-video playlist limit, can approximate replaying a sequence.

Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.
Restream’s playlist instructions, published July 25, 2026, say that separate back-to-back playlists have a two-minute buffer between streams. That is not a configurable two-minute transition between individual videos within a playlist, and it is not a datarhei Restreamer setting. The cited documentation does not establish a per-video fade or crossfade control for either product’s playlists.
Choose the workflow that matches the job
| Need | What the documentation supports | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Publish a source from datarhei Restreamer to YouTube | Use the Publication Service with a valid YouTube streaming ID. | This does not document a prerecorded multi-video playlist or its transitions. |
| Adjust HLS output in Restreamer | Configure segment length and HLS list size. | These affect HLS segments, not transitions between videos. |
| Loop one prerecorded video using Restream | The Help Center documents up to 10 loops and a maximum 40-hour stream for the hosted feature. | This is Restream behavior, not datarhei Restreamer behavior. |
| Replay a multi-video sequence using Restream | Playlists themselves do not loop; duplicating videos up to the 40-entry limit can approximate replay. | Separate back-to-back playlists have a two-minute buffer, not an item transition setting. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos running as a YouTube live stream without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on, it supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
