Both Restream and StreamYard can schedule an uploaded video to play automatically as a YouTube live broadcast while you’re offline. Restream is the clearer fit if you need to join multiple videos into a playlist or loop content on an eligible add-on. StreamYard is a straightforward option for scheduling a single video, but its automatic pre-recorded mode does not let you control overlays or on-stream comments during playback. For either service, set up an announcement post during scheduling if you need an event link before the broadcast begins.
How to choose between Restream and StreamYard
Start with the shape of your broadcast: one scheduled recording, a sequence of videos, or a repeating program. Then check the maximum duration and file-library limits that apply to your account, the resolution you need, and whether viewers should be able to visit an event page ahead of time. The services describe their allowances differently, so do not assume a video-duration limit and a library-storage limit measure the same thing.
| Need | Restream | StreamYard |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled automatic playback | A pre-recorded event starts at the scheduled time, even if you are offline. Restream’s scheduling guide. | A scheduled video starts and ends automatically. StreamYard’s pre-recorded streaming guide. |
| Combine videos | Playlists can stitch multiple videos into a sequence. Restream’s workflow guide. | The documented pre-recorded workflow selects a video; playlist stitching is not documented in that guide. |
| Loop playback | Up to 10 loops are described for the Marathon and Media add-on plans; confirm the applicable tier at checkout. Restream’s scheduling guide. | No looping option is documented in the reviewed pre-recorded streaming guide. |
| Resolution | The event help page lists 1080p for Premier and Marathon add-ons and 4K for Media. These are tier-specific listings, not a universal resolution promise. | Pre-recorded broadcasts are listed at up to 1080p on paid plans. |
| Video duration and library | The help page lists video-library add-ons at $39 per month for 2-hour, $79 per month for 4-hour, and $239 per month for 12-hour tiers. Limits depend on the tier; confirm what the allowance covers. | Core allows videos up to 2 hours, Advanced up to 4 hours, and Team and Business up to 8 hours. The pricing page currently lists Core with 2 pre-recorded hours and Advanced with 4 hours; displayed prices vary with promotions and billing. |
| File requirements | The reviewed event guide allows choosing or uploading a file from a computer or phone but does not state technical file constraints in the relevant passage. | MP4 with H.264 encoding and a maximum upload bitrate of 10 Mbps. File size is up to 10 GB on Core and Advanced, and up to 25 GB on Teams and Business. |
| Control during playback | You can monitor the stream and chat while it airs. | Automatic pre-recorded mode does not provide on-stream comments or overlay/media control. Comments remain viewable at the destination. |
| Advance event link | You can create an event post during setup for supported platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X. | An announcement post during setup creates an event link in advance. Without one, the destination watch page appears when the broadcast goes live. |
Restream’s duration and library prices above come from its help-center add-on table; StreamYard’s limits come from its help and plan pages. They are not necessarily equivalent measures. Before paying, compare the maximum length of an individual video, total library capacity, any scheduled-stream allowance, and the resolution for your specific plan. Check current details in Restream’s event guide, StreamYard’s pre-recorded guide, and StreamYard’s pricing page.
Choose Restream for playlists or documented looping
Restream’s documented playlist workflow is useful when a broadcast should move through several recordings rather than play one file. Its event guide also describes looping, subject to the Marathon or Media add-on. Verify the loop count, resolution, video duration, and library allowance shown for your account before building a long-running schedule.

Choose StreamYard for a single scheduled recording
StreamYard’s automatic mode is suited to selecting one recording, choosing destinations, and setting a date and time. Its plan documentation distinguishes video lengths by plan, so match the plan to the length and upload size of your file. The automatic playback mode is not a live studio session: you cannot change overlays or manage on-stream comments as the recording plays.
Schedule a pre-recorded video with Restream
- Open the pre-recorded livestream workflow. Choose Pre-recorded livestream, then select an existing upload or recording, or upload a file.
- Enter the event details. Set the title and other event information, then choose the date and time for the broadcast.
- Create an advance post if viewers need a link early. Select the event-post option during event creation. Restream says it can create posts for YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.
- Select the destinations and create the event. Review each destination’s requirements before scheduling, then create the event. Restream says playback begins automatically at the scheduled time and can be monitored with chat while it airs.
Restream’s help material describes scheduling as far as 365 days ahead. Treat that as a vendor-documented maximum, not a guarantee for every destination or account; confirm the date range in your setup flow. For platform-specific behavior, see Restream’s pre-recorded event instructions.

Schedule a pre-recorded video with StreamYard
- Choose a pre-recorded video. Upload a file or select a previous recording.
- Select destinations. Choose YouTube and any other supported destinations you intend to use.
- Set the date and time. The broadcast is scheduled to start and end automatically.
- Decide whether to create an announcement post. Create it during setup if you need an event link before the stream starts. StreamYard says you cannot add a post or change its timing after creating the stream; without an announcement, the destination watch page is available when the broadcast goes live.
- Review the file and plan limits, then schedule. The documented file format is MP4 with H.264 encoding, upload bitrate up to 10 Mbps, and file-size limits of up to 10 GB on Core and Advanced or 25 GB on Teams and Business.
StreamYard’s help material also describes scheduling up to 365 days ahead. Confirm the permitted date in your account and destination before relying on a far-future event. See StreamYard’s pre-recorded streaming guide and its supported-platforms guide.
Event links, playback control, and destination behavior
Set up promotion before creating the event
If you want to share a watch link before air time, enable the advance announcement or event post while scheduling. StreamYard says that if you skip the announcement, the watch page is unavailable until the stream goes live, and the post cannot be added or retimed after stream creation. Restream likewise places the event-post choice in event creation. Check the destination’s event behavior before sharing a link.

Know what “automatic” means
These workflows automate playback; they do not make the recording a live-controlled studio session. Restream documents stream and chat monitoring. StreamYard’s pre-recorded mode does not support on-stream comments or overlay/media control while playback is running. If you need to change scenes or overlays during the broadcast, use a workflow that runs through a normal live studio instead, which requires someone to start and operate it.
Check each destination in a multistream setup
Restream warns that some destinations, including TikTok or Instagram, may require a separate Go Live action after Restream begins sending the stream. That warning is not specific to YouTube. For a YouTube-only event, follow the YouTube destination setup shown in your account; for a multistream event, verify the go-live steps for every destination.

Which is better for pre-recorded YouTube streaming?
For a single scheduled recording, either service can automatically air the video while you are offline. Restream has the stronger documented fit when the program needs a playlist or tier-dependent looping. StreamYard’s documented workflow is a practical choice for one video when its duration, file-size, and resolution limits suit your plan. If viewers need an advance event link, build the announcement into setup with either service. Neither comparison should be reduced to a single headline price: check the current plan, add-on, storage, and video-length details that apply to your actual broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel from uploaded videos rather than a single scheduled event, StreamNeo is a separate option to consider. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos in the cloud, so nothing has to stay running at home. The video streams as uploaded, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. It also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, then start the free day.
