Keep a short record of each claim’s publisher, date, sample and type of evidence, then focus on developments that could change your skills, test strategy or quality risks.
Where to find software testing trends
Professional-body updates
ISTQB’s news is a useful source for dated changes to certifications and syllabi. Its 2026 announcements include CT-AI syllabus version 2.0, an update to CT-GenAI and the CT-QDO certification. These show what the professional body is addressing in its curriculum; they do not establish how widely teams use those practices.
For learning materials, ISTQB says its knowledge base includes syllabi and sample exams, and its site lists accredited training and exam providers. These are optional ways to study a topic in more depth, not prerequisites for following industry developments. The site describes a global network of more than 300 accredited training providers; because that count can change, check the live ISTQB site before relying on it.
Research catalogs and white papers
ISTQB Academia’s papers and publications catalog is a route into work on topics including AI-based systems, DevSecOps, automated testing, test techniques and testing education. Check the date on the individual paper: the catalog includes a white paper updated October 21, 2025, as well as research-paper entries dated September 2023. A topic’s presence in a catalog is a reason to investigate, not proof that it is new or prevalent.

ISTQB’s white-paper collection includes “The Future of Software Testing.” Read the paper itself and note its publication date before using it to support a claim about current practice.
Annual industry reports
Use reports for dated snapshots, while checking who was surveyed, where, when and how key terms were defined. Two current leads are PractiTest’s 2026 State of Testing Report and OpenText’s World Quality Report 2025–2026. For detailed claims from the OpenText report, consult the report PDF and retain its exact wording, geography and method; a broad summary alone is not enough to support a precise statistic.
How to judge whether a trend claim is strong
Different sources answer different questions. A syllabus announcement documents a professional body’s curriculum priorities; a survey describes answers from its respondents; a trend article may be an expert forecast. Do not combine them as if they measured the same thing.
- Date and release cycle: Record the publication year and whether a page describes a new edition or has simply been refreshed.
- Publisher and perspective: Note whether the claim comes from a professional body, research team, vendor or commercial service provider.
- Population and geography: Identify who responded, where they work and which roles were included.
- Method and definitions: Look for sample size, collection method and the report’s definition of terms such as “AI adoption” or “automation.”
- Claim type: Label the item as a measured survey result, curriculum change, expert opinion or forecast.
- Practical consequence: Ask whether it changes a skill to learn, test strategy or quality risk—or is simply interesting.
Example: interpreting the AI adoption figure
PractiTest’s 2026 State of Testing Report landing page reports 76.8% AI adoption in testing. Attribute the number to that report; do not present it as a universal industry rate. Before drawing broader conclusions, inspect the report’s question, respondent sample and methodology. A survey figure describes the people and definitions behind that survey, not necessarily all testing teams.
Keep historical evidence in its proper timeframe
ISTQB’s Worldwide Software Testing Practices Report 2015–2016 describes more than 3,200 responses from 89 countries and covers organizational and budget matters, tools, techniques, skills and competencies. It can provide historical context, but its age makes it unsuitable for claims about current adoption.
Similarly, the ITB / ISTQB India article dated March 5, 2025 forecasts automation, AI, security and performance engineering for 2026. Treat that as commentary and forecast, not as an independent measurement of what teams did in 2026.

A lightweight routine for staying current
- Check professional-body news: Review dated ISTQB announcements for certification, syllabus and quality-related changes.
- Scan research catalogs selectively: Use the topic and publication date to decide which papers merit a closer read.
- Check annual report editions when released: Compare the publisher, fieldwork period, sample, geography and definitions before carrying a statistic into planning.
- Keep a small evidence log: For each useful item, record the claim, publisher, date, source type, population or method if stated, and what decision it might affect.
- Revisit only decision-relevant items: Keep developments that change a learning plan, test approach or assessment of quality risk; archive the rest rather than treating every forecast as an urgent priority.
Capture a changing page for your own review
If you want a visual record of a report page or announcement as it changes, a screenshot can preserve what you saw at a particular point in time. It does not replace reading the report’s methods or checking the underlying evidence.

Quick Recap
- Cookie banners are accepted and removed before capture, along with known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be turned off.
- Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status.
- An MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.
- The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
