Spoilers for Chapter 4: The Arena puzzle in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is solved by activating three linked symbol pairs with reflected light. First, walk around the circular platform so Sophia records the floor-symbol sequence. Then illuminate the bell-shaped and T-like pair, followed by the M-like and triangle pair. When both statue hands have risen onto the platform, use the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal on their rings to expose the final pair, light both matching medallions, defeat the attackers, and take the newly opened route.
What the Arena puzzle is asking you to do
The Arena is the final mechanism in Chapter 4’s First Trial. Its logic is consistent once the symbols are mapped: the circular floor markings identify linked pairs, and the wall medallions beneath the corresponding symbols must be illuminated together by reflected light. A successful pair changes the statue, first raising one hand and then the other. The last pair is different because its symbols are hidden until you reveal the markings on the statue hands.

The puzzle is easy to misread if you rely on written descriptions from a guide. The glyphs are often given informal names such as “half-6,” “W,” or “H,” but those labels are not consistent between descriptions. Treat the journal, the floor pattern, and the symbols as they appear in your game as authoritative. The nicknames are only orientation aids.

- Enter the circular arena and leave the reflectors alone. Moving beams before you understand the sequence makes it harder to tell which symbol belongs to which pair.
- Walk around the entire platform. Inspect the markings on the floor rather than standing in one place. The floor pattern links symbols that must be activated together and provides the order for the early stages.
- Wait for Sophia to make her journal note. Her journal is the reliable record of the pairings. If a wall symbol looks worn, obscured, or absent, the journal and the order of the floor markings still identify its intended position.
- Match each floor symbol to its wall position. Look for the medallion associated with a symbol, not merely a nearby decorative mark. Your target is the medallion beneath the intended glyph.
Do this reconnaissance before attempting a solution. The puzzle does not require you to guess from the shape of a beam or from a guide’s shorthand; it gives you the information needed to build a complete map first.

The three linked pairs at a glance

The table gives the shape of the solution, but the arena’s actual symbols should decide your aim. In particular, the final glyphs do not have a dependable written nickname.
Step-by-step Arena solution
1. Build your map from the floor and journal
Circle the platform slowly and inspect every floor marking. Sophia’s note establishes which marks are linked and supplies the sequence used for the first two activations. Use that sequence to connect a floor symbol to the wall medallion in the same position or line of the arena. If one wall marking appears to be missing, do not stop: its position can be inferred from the journal pairing and the order in which the floor marks appear.
At this point, you should be able to answer two questions before aiming a reflector: which two medallions form the first pair, and which two form the second pair? If you cannot, continue walking and inspecting instead of experimenting with random beam angles.
2. Activate the bell-shaped and T-like pair
Use the movable reflectors to send light to the two medallions associated with the bell-shaped and T-like floor symbols. The important target is the medallion under each symbol. A beam passing close to a glyph or lighting a neighboring decoration does not count.

Adjust the reflectors until both members of the pair are illuminated. You do not need to interpret the beam as a line connecting the two symbols; each target must receive the reflected light at the same stage. When the pairing is correct, the mechanism responds by moving part of the statue and raising the first hand. That movement is the confirmation that the first pair, rather than just one target, has been accepted.
3. Activate the M-like and triangle pair
Use the next linked pair in Sophia’s journal: the M-like mark and the triangle. Locate their corresponding wall medallions using the floor pattern. One of the visible wall marks may look worn away or seem to be absent. In that situation, preserve the order from the journal and use the matching floor position to identify the medallion rather than choosing a substitute based on appearance.
Redirect the reflectors so both medallions receive light. If only one target is illuminated, the statue will not complete this stage. Once the correct pair is active, the second hand rises onto the platform. Both hands should now be present before you attempt to expose the last symbols.
4. Reveal the hidden symbols on the hands
After the two hands have moved onto the platform, use the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal on the rings on the statue hands. The reveal is a required puzzle action, not an optional inspection. It exposes the two glyphs needed for the final pair.

If the rings show nothing, check the order of operations: the first pair must have raised one hand, the second pair must have raised the other, and both hands must be on the platform. Applying Light Reveal before that state is reached will not provide the final targets.
5. Illuminate the revealed final pair
Read the two glyphs on the hand rings exactly as they appear in the game, then find the wall medallions that match them. Guides may call these marks different things, so do not reject a target because its nickname does not match a written walkthrough. The in-game glyph and the journal or floor relationship are more reliable than a verbal label.
Direct reflected light to both matching medallions. Confirm that each beam reaches the medallion beneath the revealed symbol. When the pair is complete, the Arena mechanism finishes its sequence and opens the way forward.

6. Survive the encounter and continue
Completing the final pair triggers an enemy attack. The fight is the intended transition out of the puzzle, not evidence that the mechanism failed. Defeat the attackers, then follow the route that has opened. There is no separate physical tool or accessory needed to solve the Arena; the required actions are the reflectors, Sophia’s journal information, and the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal.

How to aim the reflected light without guessing
Think of each stage as a two-target verification problem. First identify the linked symbols; then use the reflectors to reach the medallions beneath those symbols. Avoid trying to solve the arena by lining up a beam with a visually similar glyph elsewhere on the wall. The floor pattern establishes the relationship, while the medallion is the object that must be lit.
Make one adjustment at a time. After moving a reflector, check which medallion changed rather than immediately rotating every reflector. This preserves the map you created and makes it clear whether a beam is reaching the intended target. If a stage does not trigger, assume that one member of the pair is either unlit or aimed at the wrong medallion before assuming the puzzle has reset.
The statue provides a stage-by-stage progress indicator. The first correct pair raises one hand; the second raises the other. Only after those two movements should you search the rings with Light Reveal. The final activation is confirmed by the opened route and the attack that follows.
Troubleshooting the most common failures
A wall symbol appears to be missing
A worn or absent mark does not mean the pairing is impossible. Return to Sophia’s journal and the order of the floor markings. Use the known pair and its position in the sequence to infer which wall medallion corresponds to the missing-looking symbol. The floor sequence is the fallback identifier when the wall art is unclear.

The first or second hand does not move
Check both members of the current pair. A beam can look close to a target while missing the medallion beneath it, and lighting one symbol alone is not enough. Recheck the floor-to-wall match, then adjust the reflector so the medallion itself is illuminated. For the second stage, verify that you selected the M-like and triangle pair rather than repeating the first pair.
The final symbols cannot be seen
Both hands must already be on the platform. Complete the bell-shaped/T-like pair and the M-like/triangle pair first, then direct the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal at the rings on the hands. The hidden pair is revealed there; it is not a permanent wall marking that should be visible from the beginning.
A guide’s glyph name does not match what you see
Ignore the nickname and compare the actual shape on your screen. Descriptions of the final marks vary, and even the earlier marks can be described with different visual shorthand. Match the in-game glyph to the journal, floor pattern, and wall position instead of forcing it to fit a term such as “half-6,” “W,” or “H.”
The beam seems to hit the right area, but nothing happens
Inspect the endpoint of the beam. Each stage requires both linked medallions, not a general wash of light across the wall. If one endpoint is on a nearby surface or decorative symbol, reposition the reflector until the medallion beneath the intended glyph is clearly illuminated. Then check whether the statue has made the movement associated with that stage.
The attack starts before you can leave
This is the expected result of completing the final pair. Finish the encounter rather than returning to the reflectors. Once the attackers are defeated, use the newly opened route to progress beyond the First Trial.
A reliable order for a first attempt
- Walk the complete circular platform and let Sophia record the floor pairings.
- Use the journal to identify the bell-shaped and T-like medallions.
- Light both of those medallions and wait for the first hand to rise.
- Identify the M-like and triangle medallions, using the floor sequence if a wall mark is unclear.
- Light both and wait for the second hand to rise.
- Apply the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal to the rings on both hands.
- Match the revealed glyphs to their medallions and illuminate both.
- Defeat the attackers and continue through the opened route.
Following that order prevents the two issues that cause most stalled attempts: moving reflectors before recording the pairings and searching for the final glyphs before the hands have risen. Once the journal, floor sequence, and revealed rings are treated as the authority, the Arena’s three-stage mechanism is deterministic rather than a guessing exercise.
