Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Tips for Managing Resources and Surviving Encounters

Resident Evil Requiem rewards different survival habits for Grace and Leon. As Grace, treat every encounter as a threat-assessment problem: observe first, decide whether combat is necessary, and convert infected blood into the item that solves your most urgent problem. As Leon, use the broader combat toolkit—firearms, hatchet, melee attacks, parries and recovered enemy weapons—while keeping ammunition and healing supplies organized in the attaché case.

Both characters support first- and third-person play, and Capcom says you can switch perspectives during gameplay. Choose the view that gives you the clearest control; the available evidence does not establish a universal damage, stealth or survival advantage for either camera.

Know which survival problem you are solving

Grace and Leon are not simply two versions of the same loadout. Official descriptions from PlayStation and Nintendo frame Grace around limited supplies, enemy analysis and blood-based crafting. Leon is built around direct combat: firearms, a hatchet, melee attacks, parries, confiscated enemy weapons, an attaché case and customizable weapon parts.

Character Primary resource question Systems you should use What is not established
Grace Is this threat worth the supplies, or can I avoid it? Threat analysis, limited carrying capacity, stealth, light management, infected-blood crafting Exact inventory capacity, recipes, blood costs, damage values and enemy-specific weaknesses
Leon Which part of my combat toolkit is safest and most economical here? Firearms, hatchet, melee, parries, recovered enemy weapons, attaché-case organization and weapon parts Best weapon, upgrade order, ammunition threshold and optimal damage strategy
Both Which camera makes this encounter easiest for me to read? Freely switchable first-person and third-person perspectives A universal perspective bonus to damage, stealth or survival

Use that distinction as your mental reset whenever the playable character changes. A habit that keeps Grace alive—avoiding a fight because the reward is not worth the ammunition—may be unnecessarily cautious when Leon has several combat options. Conversely, treating every Grace encounter as a shooting gallery can consume the supplies her design expects you to ration.

Grace: turn limited supplies into deliberate choices

Start with observation, not an attack

Grace’s official gameplay description says that supplies are limited by what she can obtain and carry, and that analyzing enemies to decide whether to fight or flee is central to survival. Before committing to combat, pause long enough to answer three questions:

  • Does the threat block the route, objective or item you actually need?
  • Is there a plausible way around it, including a quieter or darker approach?
  • Will the supplies you spend now leave you unable to handle a more dangerous encounter later?

This is not a command to avoid every enemy. It is a spending rule: fight when combat removes a meaningful obstacle or prevents a greater risk; evade when the encounter is optional and the cost is disproportionate. If you cannot yet judge the threat, spend a moment improving your information rather than immediately spending ammunition.

Use a fight-or-flee threshold

Make the decision explicit so panic does not make it for you. A practical Grace sequence is:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Identify the objective. Determine whether you need to pass, search, activate or retrieve something in the threat’s area.
  2. Check your current supplies. Look at what you can carry and what you can afford to lose, rather than assuming a replacement will appear soon.
  3. Look for an avoidance opportunity. Examine lighting, spacing and exits before starting a loud or prolonged encounter.
  4. Choose the smallest commitment that solves the problem. If a short diversion or a single crafted tool is enough, do not escalate to a full fight.
  5. Reassess after the encounter. A route that was safe while moving forward may become dangerous if you are forced to retreat through the same space.

The game does not provide a verified universal rule such as “always run from” or “always kill” a particular enemy type. Treat the official emphasis on analysis as the rule, and adjust the threshold to your current inventory and objective.

Craft infected blood to fix the immediate bottleneck

Grace can use infected enemy blood to craft items, ammunition and injectors capable of taking down enemies in one hit, according to the official descriptions. Think of blood as a conversion resource: you are exchanging one reserve for a specific answer to a problem.

Because a complete recipe and cost table is not established, avoid memorizing unofficial “best recipe” claims as if they were guaranteed. Instead, ask what is constraining you right now:

  • If the next obstacle is a required combat space, a damage-oriented craft may be justified.
  • If survival depends on recovering from a mistake, prioritize the item that restores your ability to continue rather than creating another offensive option.
  • If avoidance is still possible, keep the blood unspent until the route or threat is clearer.

The one-hit injector description is a capability, not a promise that every enemy in every situation will fall identically. Use it when removing a particular threat immediately is more valuable than preserving the blood for an unknown later encounter.

Stealth and light are conservation tools

A Windows Central reviewer describes Grace’s sections as involving stealth and light management, with stealth helping conserve ammunition. That observation supports a resource-saving approach, but it is not an exhaustive rule for every room or enemy. Use darkness, cover and slower movement when they improve your ability to pass without creating a worse position.

Light should be treated as an information tool as well as a visibility setting. Use it to identify routes, hazards and interactable objects, then switch back to the approach that keeps you least exposed when searching is complete. Do not assume that staying dark is always safer: if poor visibility causes repeated mistakes, the resulting damage or wasted supplies can exceed any ammunition saved.

Plan around corpse-related threats

The same Windows Central review reports corpse-related threats in Grace’s segments. That means a defeated enemy may still matter to route planning, even when the immediate fight is over. After an encounter, check whether bodies affect the path you must reuse, an objective area or a retreat route. Keep this as a planning consideration, not a claim that every corpse behaves the same way.

Save deliberately when using Classic mode

Windows Central’s reviewer also reports that Classic save mode uses Ink Ribbons. If you select that mode, treat each save as a resource decision: save after meaningful progress or a risky sequence rather than repeatedly saving after every minor action. The exact availability and placement of Ink Ribbons, along with difficulty scaling, are not established here, so do not assume a fixed save schedule.

Leon: exploit the complete combat toolkit

Choose the least expensive effective tool

Leon’s official feature descriptions list firearms, a hatchet, melee attacks, parries and the ability to use weapons taken from enemies. That range lets you match the response to the threat instead of spending firearm ammunition by default.

  • Firearms: Use when distance, speed or immediate stopping power matters. Keep enough ammunition for situations in which close contact would be unsafe.
  • Hatchet and melee: Consider them when an enemy is isolated and the space gives you room to control distance. Do not force close combat simply because ammunition is scarce; the safest option depends on the encounter.
  • Parries: Treat a parry as a timing-based defensive option, not a guaranteed substitute for attacking. If your timing is uncertain, create distance rather than repeatedly attempting a high-risk response.
  • Confiscated enemy weapons: Check whether a recovered weapon solves the current problem before treating it as a permanent replacement for your regular loadout.

No verified data establishes a single best weapon, damage threshold or upgrade order. Build decisions around the encounters you are actually facing and the tools you can reliably control.

Organize the attaché case before entering danger

Official descriptions specifically call out organizing ammunition and recovery items in Leon’s attaché case. Use that organization to reduce decision time under pressure:

  1. Place frequently needed ammunition and recovery items where you can identify them quickly.
  2. Separate supplies you are saving for a specific weapon from items intended for immediate use.
  3. Before opening a new area or starting an objective, check what is equipped, what is stored and what can be picked up.
  4. After using or acquiring a weapon, reorganize rather than allowing the case to become a memory test during combat.

The purpose is not cosmetic neatness. A clear case helps you recognize whether you can afford a fight and prevents an avoidable pause while an enemy is active.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use customizable weapon parts as a response to your play style

Leon’s weapons can receive customizable parts. The available evidence does not identify an optimal upgrade path, so evaluate each part by the problem it solves for you: control, handling, consistency or another clearly described function. Avoid spending a scarce part merely because a slot is available. If you rely on a weapon for a particular range or timing, prioritize changes that make that established role more dependable.

A practical encounter framework

When a new encounter begins, run the following checklist. It works for both characters, but the answer will differ because their tools differ.

  1. Read the space. Locate exits, chokepoints, cover, interactable objectives and any route you may need to use again.
  2. Classify the threat. Decide whether it is blocking progress, guarding a required resource or simply occupying optional space.
  3. Choose your commitment. Grace should first consider evasion and blood conversion; Leon should compare firearms, close-range options, parries and recovered weapons.
  4. Preserve a recovery option. Do not spend every useful item on the opening exchange if the area can produce a second phase or a retreat.
  5. Recheck the route. After the threat is dealt with or bypassed, confirm that your next move does not funnel you into a worse position.
Situation Grace’s first question Leon’s first question
Optional enemy away from the objective Can I pass without spending limited supplies? Can a low-cost tool handle it safely, or is bypassing simpler?
Enemy blocking a required interaction Which craft solves this bottleneck with the least lasting cost? Which weapon or defensive option gives reliable control in this space?
Unclear route or poor visibility Can light and observation reveal a safer path before I commit? Can I reposition, improve sight lines or switch perspective before attacking?
Retreat likely Will stealth, light and corpse placement affect the return route? Is my case arranged for a quick reload or recovery during withdrawal?

Choosing first person or third person

PlayStation’s official page and Capcom’s reporting confirm first- and third-person perspectives for both Grace and Leon, with Capcom describing the switch as freely available during gameplay. Use that flexibility as a clarity control:

  • Try third person when you need a broader view of movement, spacing or your character’s position near cover.
  • Try first person when aiming, examining a narrow route or judging an interaction feels clearer that way.
  • Switch before a difficult sequence if the current camera makes threats or exits hard to read.

These are usability recommendations, not measured performance claims. The sources do not establish that one view universally improves damage, stealth, hit detection or survival.

What is confirmed—and what should not be assumed

Confirmed by official descriptions: Grace has limited supplies, can analyze threats and can craft items, ammunition and one-hit injectors from infected blood. Leon has firearms, a hatchet, melee attacks, parries, enemy weapons, an attaché case for ammunition and recovery items, and customizable weapon parts. Both protagonists can use either camera perspective.

Reported by a reviewer, not an exhaustive system specification: Grace’s sections involve stealth, light, limited inventory and corpse-related threats, while Classic saves use Ink Ribbons. These observations are useful for planning, but they should not be expanded into claims about every enemy, room or route.

Not established by the available evidence: exact inventory capacities, crafting recipes and costs, enemy weaknesses, damage thresholds, ideal upgrade paths, route-specific solutions, difficulty scaling and patch-specific changes. Capcom has stated that ongoing support and additional content were planned, so check the current version notes if a later update changes a system described here.

Release and platform context

Capcom announced Resident Evil Requiem’s release for February 27, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Confirm the platform and edition you own before relying on a feature or control description, especially if a future update changes availability. The gameplay principles above are system-level guidance and do not depend on a particular platform’s controller layout.
